In iPhoto '11 Essential Training, Derrick Story offers an in-depth tour of the popular photo management software from Apple, demonstrating its various features for organizing, editing, and sharing images. The course covers techniques to categorize and combine images into custom collections using iPhoto's geotagging, face detection, and Smart Album features, and offers insight on how to perform key image corrections and enhancements. Also covered are tutorials on building customized slideshows and outputting collections to calendars, books, and greeting cards. Exercise files accompany the course.
We have some output options with greeting cards also. The simplest of course and a very nice one is to buy the card from Apple. Once you design it, click on the Buy Card, set the quantity, and go ahead and check out. Just keep in mind that your shipping is going to be the same whether you order one or five cards or whatever. So you may want to group your cards, if you know you're going to order a bunch. But you have other output options also and one is to print the card yourself. So I'm just going to go to the File > Print. Wait for that Print dialog box to come up.
Now these cards are 5x7 when folded, which means that they're really 7x10. So what you're probably going to have to do on paper size is create a custom size, unless you happen to have that particular size in your Print dialog box here in your options. So just make sure you do that so the card fits properly. Then you're probably going to have to run the card through twice, because you'll go from 1 to 1 in the first time and print on the front.
Then you'll go to the back of the card and then print 2 to 2. Run that same paper through again, print 2 to 2, and print on the inside, and then you have images on both sides. Of course, if your printer has a duplex printing or it can print on both sides at the same time, you can set that up. But just keep in mind you will probably do one side first and then print the other side. You can also do electronic greeting cards. You can save them out as PDFs and go that route right here.
Now, one thing that I tend to do if I'm going to do the electronic greeting card route is that I'll go with a flat card instead of the folding card and then just Print to PDF. Then you can actually design a very nice electronic card that you can attach to an email. You have all of those flat card options to do that. So you really have some nice ways to work here. Again, think of this as a layout tool where you can send your images to Apple, you can print them yourself, or you can make electronic versions of them and have a lot of fun.
