iPhoto and Flickr are a perfect match for sharing pictures on the web. In iPhoto '09: 10 Things to Know About Flickr, instructor Derrick Story explains how these two applications work together to create online albums, known as sets. From the basics, like setting up a free Flickr account, to the more advanced features, like creating an iPhoto slideshow to publish on Flickr, Derrick reveals features that both beginning and advanced photographers can use to enhance their online collections.
Now it's time to connect iPhoto to our Flickr account and in that way the two of them can talk directly and that's what we are going to do right now. So here we are in iPhoto and I'm going... Oh, I would like to send, let's say, a few photos here up to my Flickr account. And you are going, oh, this would be nice. And I haven't done this yet, so I'm going to go down here, I'm going to click on Flickr, and iPhoto is going to let me know, Oh! So you want to set up this communication here? And I go, yes I do. So we are going to set this up, we click Setup.
Now what iPhoto does is it has a little tool in there and it goes out to Flickr and we have to get permission from Flickr. Actually it is permission from me for my Flickr account to allow iPhoto to talk to it directly and this is a good thing. We want that, we want these permissions. So I just type in my password, like that. It is telling me that iPhoto Uploader now is all set to go.
So I just say OK, I'm going to allow this and we are set. That's all there is to it. It's really very easy. Go ahead and minimize this to bring us back to iPhoto and this warning should go away. Now that I have iPhoto permission to talk directly to my Flickr account, it has some parameters here that it wants me to set. We are not going to do that quite yet, because I have a whole strategy for interacting iPhoto with Flickr and I'm going to cover that in the next movie. So meet me back here in just a few moments and we'll get into all that good stuff.
