If you've tried everything else we previously covered in this chapter and your iPhone or iPod touch is still acting weird, or freezing up, or just not responding properly, the next thing to try is to reset your settings. To do so go to Settings>General and at the bottom you'll find Reset. And the top choice here is Reset All Settings. Now what this does is reset your preferences back to the way they were when you turned on your device for the first time. But it won't delete any saved data like text messages, contacts, photos in your Photo library, your music and videos or any apps you've installed.
All of that stuff will be untouched. What it will do is wipe out potentially corrupt preferences and settings on your iPhone or iPod touch. So when you're ready tap Reset All Settings and you'll be asked to confirm that you really want to do this and it will actually ask you to confirm again. They really want to make sure that you really want to do this. So tap Reset All Settings one more time, you'll then see the Apple logo and your device will restart.
And once the phone reboots itself, it will be reset to its default settings. Now some things to bear in mind; you will have to re-enter any passwords you might have had stored for wireless networks you were previously able to automatically connect to. If you use an app like the Camera, you'll again be asked to allow the app to use your location information, and you'll generally see all the types of messages that appear when you open apps for the first time. And hopefully you'll find that resetting your settings fixed whatever issue it was you were having.
