If there are several addresses or points of interest that you often find yourself returning to, it's a good idea to bookmark those locations in the Maps app, so you can always find your way back no matter where you are. For example, I always rent from the same rental car company why I fly into Los Angeles, so I have their address bookmarked in Maps which means I don't have to type it in at the end of every trip when it comes time to return the car. So let's take a look at how we add bookmarks in Maps. Let's say I'm planning a trip to New York city, and I'm going to be arriving by train at Penn station. I want to make sure I'll be able to find my way back when my trip is over, regardless of where in the city I happen to be at the time.
So I'll tap in the Search field and search for, Penn Station New York. Now that brings up lots of results. Now I can either zoom in to see which one I want, and tap a couple of the results. Or, I can tap the List Results button at the bottom of the screen. And in this case, I want the top result at 407th Ave. So I'll select that. So now I've pinpointed Penn Station, and with it's name above the pin, I can zoom in a little bit. While keeping an eye on its location. So now that I've found the correct address, I'll tap its name to view its details. And down here at the bottom of the screen, I can tap Add Bookmark. Here, I can either leave the default name or edit it.
I'll just leave it as is, and tap Save. Now, let's go back to the map and clear the Search bar. To bring up your bookmarks, tap the Bookmarks icon by the Search bar. Make sure the Bookmarks tab is selected at the bottom of the screen. Now I see a list of all the locations I bookmarked, and there, at the bottom, is Penn Station. I tap it. And up it comes on the map. And now I can easily get directions to Penn Station without having to go through the whole process of typing in its name and having to specify to Maps which Penn Station address I mean each time I want to go there. Let's open up Bookmarks again. Now, if you ever want to remove any bookmarks you've created, maybe you made one by accident or you just don't go to a particular location anymore.
Just slide your finger horizontally along the bookmark to reveal the Delete button. Tap Delete to remove the bookmark or tap anywhere else on the screen to close the Delete button. You can also rename and reorder your bookmarks by tapping Edit. From here, tap a bookmark to edit its name. I'll just cancel that for now by going back to Bookmarks. And tap and drag the handle to the right of the Bookmarks to move them up and down the list. Maybe I'll move Penn Station to the top of the list since I go there a lot. You can also delete Bookmarks while in Edit mode by tapping the red button to reveal Delete. I think I'll just tap off of that to cancel that and when your done in here tap Done.
Here in the bookmarks area you can also tap Recents to see a list of the places you have recently searched for, which can be convenience if you need to find a recent destination again and either forgot to bookmark it or you just don't find it necessary to bookmark it. You can't delete individual searches though. So if you're trying to cover your tracks for some reason or another, you'll have to tap the Clear button, which will delete all of your recent searches from this list. And the third tab here is Contacts. Which allows you to search through your Contacts to find addresses. Any contacts you don't have addresses for will be greyed out. But tapping a contact that does have an address instantly brings that address up on the map.
So that's how to create and use bookmarked locations with Maps.
