Accessing your digital movies

My name is Jess Stratton and welcome to Monday Productivity Pointers. If you've made the switch from DVD to Blu-ray, then I'm sure you know that many times as a perk for buying a Blu-ray, you're also entitled to a free digital copy of your movie that you can watch on a computer or mobile device like a tablet. Now, one of the industry leaders right now in digital movies is UltraViolet. And you may have noticed the UltraViolet logo across the top of the Blue-ray packaging, letting you know that that's who's going to be managing your digital copy.

I'm not going to lie, it's more than a little confusing to actually get your digital copy onto a tablet, which is what I'm going to explain to you this week. I know this because I was really confused myself until I figured out how all the little puzzle pieces work. So, today my pain is your gain because I'm going to show you all those little pieces. Now of course before we start this, your movie has to be a movie that has a digital copy that's managed by UltraViolet because not all of them are. And just because you're buying a Blu-ray doesn't mean it's going to come with a digital copy.

And also, just because you're entitled to a digital copy, that also doesn't mean that it's going to be managed by UltraViolet. So you'll know, right at the start when you buy that, the top of the Blu-ray packaging. There will be a big UltraViolet logo on it. So, the very first thing that you need to do is create an account with UltraViolet. So, we've got that open right now, you can go to uvvu.com, which is he UltraViolet digital copy home page. The first thing you're going to do now, is click the big SIGN UP NOW button right in the middle of the page.

So the very first step is that you need an account with UltraViolet. Now once you've gone and done that, the second step is you need to go and then create accounts with all the other motion picture companies that partner with UltraViolet to give you their digital copy. So there's a few ways to do this. You could sign up for a bunch of motion picture companies all at once or just sign up for accounts with each motion picture company as you buy a Blu-ray from that company. For example, say you buy a movie from Paramount Studios.

You can then go to this website, paramountmovies.com and create your paramountmovies.com account. Now, you'll notice, I'm going to scroll down. The next step after you do that, is, you have to link this Paramount account with your UltraViolet account. So, check this button here, I already have an UltraViolet account. And here's where you'll then go and log in to your UltraViolet account. And now these two companies are linked. So when you go and put in a code, a digital code which I'll show you in a few minutes from Paramount movies.

It will then show up on the UltraViolet page and you can watch your digital copy through the UltraViolet home page. So that's Paramount movies, there's a whole bunch of other motion picture companies and you will find out what those are on your Blu-ray label. For example, here's sonypictures.com. You're going to go to ultraviolet.sonypictures.com/registration. There's some more companies for example, cinemanow/ultraviolet. And there's also Universal Studios.

And their sites, universalhidef.com/ultraviolet. Now, each of these companies, you need to have separate accounts with each one. So once you've gone and done that, you now have an UltraViolet account. You now have accounts with many motion picture studios, because you'll be buying movies from different companies and you've linked your accounts with all of those individual companies to UltraViolet. So you've already got most of the steps done and out of the way.

And you'll never have to sign up for accounts from those companies again. So now I'm going to show you a screenshot of something that you might see when you buy a Blu-ray. Here's a label that I took out from my inception movie Blu-ray. This is giving me a redemption code. So it also tells me where to go. Tells me that I have to go and create some accounts and I can put in that redemption code. So once you've logged in, with that particular motion picture studio, you can then go and put in the redemption code.

Now after that is done, I'm going to come back and show you what it looks like when you've logged in to UltraViolet after you added some movies. Here's my UltraViolet account. I'm logged in and I've accessed some of my digital copies that I've added. You can access them all in the same place. For example, this one I access through Vudu. This one through Flixster. Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, I got from Paramount Studios. Remember, I've gotten my account from all of those places individually. And link them to my UltraViolet account. So, once I'm looking at all my digital copies, I can either click WATCH to watch it right from the computer or download it, to download it locally from the computer.

If I don't need internet access, I can click DOWNLOAD. And I don't have to be connected to the internet to watch it. So that's how you can start to use UltraViolet. In the next movie, I'm going to show you an easy way to get these movies onto your tablet.
