Introduction
Welcome
00:04Hi! I'm Christopher Spencer, and I'd like to welcome you to eBay for Sellers Essential Training.
00:09In this course, we'll be covering the key elements of selling merchandise on
00:13eBay for home and business sellers.
00:16We'll start by covering methods for researching and pricing items.
00:19Then we'll talk about taking product photographs that capture the interest
00:23of perspective buyers.
00:24I'll walk you through how to handle secure payments for your completed sales
00:28using PayPal, eBay's secure and rapid payment system.
00:31We'll look at properly packing and shipping the items that you've sold, so that
00:36they'll arrive safely into the buyer's hands.
00:38Finally, we'll talk about posting feedback for your buyers at the end of
00:42the sales transactions.
00:43I've been buying and selling on eBay since 1998.
00:46As an official eBay University instructor and author of the book, {italic}The eBay Entrepreneur{plain}
00:51I've collected the best practices from thousands of sellers just
00:54like you, who tap into the eBay online marketplace to sell virtually anything to
00:59anyone across the globe.
01:01Now let's just jump right in and begin eBay For Sellers Essential Training.

1. Getting Started
Creating a personal seller's account
00:01In order to sell on the eBay website you need an account so that you can be
00:04identified by other users and eBay staff.
00:08This account will permit you to both buy and sell; however, in order to sell on eBay,
00:13you'll need to provide some additional information so that eBay can ensure you
00:17are trustworthy seller, as well as setting up a method of payment for your eBay seller fees.
00:22We will talk more about eBay fees later in this course, but in this movie we
00:26will focus on getting registered as an individual.
00:29From the eBay.com home page, you'll see a logo up here at the top and then to
00:33the immediate right, you'll see a Register option, go ahead and click that.
00:37You will be presented with this form and you go ahead and fill in your basic information.
00:42This is for registration as an individual.
00:44If you want to register as a company, you can click this link right here.
00:48We are going to talk about that a little bit later on this course and I'll show
00:52you how to register a company as well.
00:54So let's go ahead and fill in our information.
00:56Then go ahead and fill in your Email address and then I am going to go ahead and
01:01page down, so we can see the rest of the form.
01:05Then you are going to go ahead and select your eBay user ID.
01:08This is pretty important because you need to select the user ID that you'll use
01:11on eBay and this user ID is with everybody on the site will identify you and
01:16it's your legitimate alias for eBay trading.
01:19Be sure to use an ID that fits your personality or what you'll be selling,
01:23such as Porcelain by Chris, or perhaps something that fits your personality, like clown boy.
01:29Keep in mind that there are millions of eBay users and your preferred name may
01:32be already taken, but you can always add some additional information to the name
01:36you have selected, so that you can get the name you want.
01:39Such as clown boy 2010.
01:40I am going to go ahead and select the username lynda4171.
01:46Then enter a password.
01:48Be sure to enter a password that is easy for you to remember, but is hard to guess.
01:53Then reenter your password here.
01:56Then you're going to want to select a security question.
01:58eBay gives you a variety of different security questions that helps to avoid
02:02getting your account hacked.
02:04I am going to use my mother's maiden name.
02:06Then go ahead and enter your Date of birth.
02:08Now when you enter your date of birth, don't be shy be about it.
02:11eBay needs to confirm that you're at least 18 years of age and this also helps
02:15make eBay a much better trading experience and a safer environment for everyone,
02:19to make sure that you are a real person and not an Internet scammer.
02:23Go ahead and read over the user agreement if you'd like, and you can check the
02:26box here that says you've read and agreed to the privacy and user agreement
02:30policies and then click Continue.
02:32You want to go ahead and enter in the verification code and then click Continue.
02:37eBay has now sent an activation link to my email.
02:40I'll need to go ahead and open up my email and confirm this information, so that
02:45I can complete my registration with eBay.
02:48Here's the activation email that eBay has sent to me.
02:51I will go ahead and open it up.
02:53All you need to do now is click on the Activate Now button and that's all there is to it.
02:58You're now registered to use eBay.
02:59Now there are some additional requirements to sell on eBay that go beyond
03:03simple registration, before you're allowed to list your first item you also
03:07need to provide a valid credit card, a debit card, a bank account or have your identity verified.
03:13Then you will need to arrange a payment method with eBay to pay your seller fees.
03:17Yes, it does cost a little money to list and sell items on eBay and that's how
03:21they make their money.
03:22Now we are done with basic registration and as a registered eBay user you can
03:27start making purchases right away.
03:29But we're here to learn how to sell.
03:31So there are a few more steps that we will need to complete in order to use this
03:35account that we've set up to list and sell things.
03:37We will dive deeper into that, but in the next movie I will show you how to
03:41register a company on eBay.

Creating a business seller's account
00:01eBay also offers the ability for you to register your company, and you can use
00:05that registration to buy and sell on the eBay site for your business.
00:10In this video we are going to go over the registration process for your business
00:14and see how it differs from that of an individual registration.
00:17From the eBay.com homepage you can click on the register link here and you'll go
00:22ahead and enter in the verification code presented to you.
00:26Then you will see the registration form for your business.
00:30On this page, you will have the opportunity to enter all the information
00:33about your company.
00:34Go ahead and fill in the required fields making sure that you're entering
00:37a legal business name and your real personal information in the
00:41appropriate sections.
00:45Then go ahead and review the User Agreement and the Privacy Policies here at the
00:48bottom and then click this checkbox here to indicate that you've read and agreed
00:52to them, then click Continue.
00:55On the next page you'll be asked to fill in your company's eBay user ID, just as
00:59if you're trading as a person, a company needs to have a user ID.
01:03Be sure to select a user ID that you'll use on eBay that tells everyone how you
01:07want to be identified on the eBay website, and that's your legitimate company's
01:11alias for eBay trading.
01:13Using an ID that's memorable can help increase your brand awareness on the eBay
01:18site and it's always a great idea to select an ID that contains either your
01:22company name or what you're selling.
01:24Because there are so many millions of members on eBay, including company members
01:28you may not always get the name you want, but you can always add some additional
01:31numbers or letters to the user ID.
01:34For example, ACME Trading 2011.
01:37that allows you to be able to register a name that maybe as similar to
01:40another eBay user ID.
01:42If you find that ACME Trading for example was already taken, you can add the
01:46year or some additional characters to make it possible to register that name.
01:50Then go ahead and enter it into this box right here.
01:53eBay is going to tell you if your user ID is available and this user ID is in fact available.
01:59Go ahead and choose a secure password that's easy for you to remember but
02:03it's hard to guess.
02:04that helps to keep your account secure.
02:06Then select a security question and put in the security answer, then click continue.
02:14eBay has now sent a confirmation link to you.
02:16It will arrive in your email and you can go ahead and activate your eBay account.
02:20Let's go ahead and do that now.
02:24We have received this email for a new registration and we'll go ahead and click
02:27on this button right here to activate that account.
02:31Now your company is registered to use eBay.
02:33Your eBay user ID is active and you can go ahead and start using it right away
02:37to purchase items on eBay.
02:39Now there are also additional options are on this page to do things like
02:42signing up for PayPal.
02:44You can see here there is a registration option for PayPal, but we are going to
02:47go ahead and talk about that in the later movie.
02:49There are some additional requirements to sell on eBay that go
02:52beyond registration.
02:54Before you're allowed to list your first item, you'll need to provide an
02:57additional bit of information, such as a valid credit or debit card, a bank
03:01account or have your identity verified, and then you can arrange with eBay for a
03:06method of payment for paying your seller fees.
03:09Now we are done with registration and as a registered company user on eBay, you
03:13can start making your purchases right away.
03:16But we are here to learn how to sell.
03:18So there are a few more steps that you and I are going need to go through in
03:21order to use this account that we've created to list and sell things on the eBay site.
03:26In our next video we will learn how to add a method of payment to our new eBay
03:30account, so that we can pay our eBay seller fees when we create new listings.
03:34This subject of fees on eBay maybe a little vague right now, and I know it is.
03:38But there are different kinds of fees for listing different types of items, and
03:43since you can list everything from houses to tchotchkes and everything in
03:46between, eBay has different prices they charge for the format and category of
03:51merchandise you are selling. Don't worry.
03:53we'll be covering all of this in the later movies in this course.

Adding a payment method
00:01Now that you're a registered eBay member, you'll want to add a method of payment
00:05to your eBay accounts so that you can pay the seller fees that eBay charges
00:09anyone who sells items on the site.
00:11We will discuss fees in depth later, but you'll want to set up your eBay account
00:15so that you can list items and pay the seller fees to eBay for those listings.
00:20You may add a credit or debit card, a checking account, or you can associate a
00:25PayPal account to pay your seller fees.
00:27eBay is secure and safe and your account information will be kept private.
00:32You will not be charged until you list and sell items.
00:35You'll always be sent an invoice for your seller fees prior to being charged on
00:39your checking account or your debit card, showing the balance you have due few
00:43days before you're actually charged.
00:45There is no monthly service charge for having an eBay account unless you decide
00:49to later open an eBay Store or if you set up subscriptions for other services.
00:54So let's start the process of adding payment methods to our eBay selling account.
00:58Go ahead and click on MyeBay.
01:00You'll see the Account tab over here.
01:03Now you'll want to go ahead and click on Personal Information, so we will click
01:07Personal Information on the left-hand side, and you will see the option for
01:12updating your automatic payment method.
01:14Let's go ahead and click on that link, we will have to sign in, because eBay
01:18periodically requires you to re-sign in because they want to make sure you
01:21haven't walked away from the computer, or maybe you're in a public place such
01:24as an Internet caf.
01:26Go ahead and Sign in again.
01:28Now you have a choice.
01:30You can choose your Automatic Payment Method.
01:32You can use PayPal for your Automatic Payment Method, Direct Pay with a checking
01:36account, or you can use a Credit or a Debit Card.
01:39I am going to select Direct Pay and I'm going to go ahead and set up my
01:43Automatic Payment Method.
01:45Now I have to set up a Seller's Account.
01:47This is pretty easy.
01:48I just click the link here and create a Seller's Account.
01:51Now I need to confirm some Personal Information.
01:54eBay wants to know if I have a brick-and- mortar store and they also want to know
01:57if my personal information is correct.
01:59Then I click Continue.
02:01Now I have to go ahead and double check all my personal information, looks
02:04correct to me, so I will go ahead and Continue.
02:06Now eBay wants to call me and make sure that the telephone number that I've
02:14provided to eBay is a valid phone number.
02:17So I'm going to have eBay call me right now and provide me with a four digit pin
02:21that I will need on the next screen.
02:22Now, I've just received a call from the eBay automated computer and I have the
02:28pin number that I needed for this screen.
02:30Then I click Continue.
02:32I have now confirmed that I really am providing valid information to eBay, and
02:37eBay asks me another question about setting up my Automatic Payment Method.
02:41I've gone ahead and set up my Seller's Account, but eBay wants to know where
02:45will it charge the fees that it's going to be charging me for my eBay listings.
02:50So the next step is, I want to show you the different ways to set up Automatic
02:54Payment Method, and I am going to go ahead and set up PayPal next.
02:58Now, I already have a PayPal account, so instead of creating one, I will click Log in now.
03:02I will go ahead and fill in my Username and Password for PayPal.
03:06We will be learning how to set up a PayPal account in a later movie, but once
03:10you have that login information, you can go ahead and put it here, and then log
03:14in and associate that PayPal account with this account on eBay.
03:18You go to the next screen, which confirms your Billing Agreement, which says
03:22that you give permission to PayPal to pay the fees on eBay for listing your
03:25items, then you click Agree and Continue, and it's done.
03:29Now you have the option to start listing items right away.
03:32I am going to show you a couple of more steps that you can follow to add
03:34different methods of payment.
03:35So let's go ahead to MYeBay, we will go to Account again, we will go to Personal
03:40Information, and we will go back down to the Automatic Payment Method.
03:44We are going to go ahead and update the Automatic Payment Method to a different
03:48method of payment, which is Credit Card.
03:50So let's go ahead and use a Credit Card, we will set up automatic payments there.
03:53Go ahead and enter the information here, select this option to make this the
03:57default Automatic Payment Method.
03:58Once you're done entering your personal information, click Continue.
04:02Go ahead and read over the Credit Card Usage Agreement and confirm it by
04:06clicking Authorize Credit Card.
04:09Now, it says Credit Card, but you can also use a Debit Card as well.
04:12The changes have been made and that Debit or Credit Card has now been associated
04:16with your eBay account and you can use that to pay your eBay seller fees.
04:20Let's go through one more step, we will click on Personal Information again and
04:23we will scroll back down, and we will click on Automatic Payment Method one more time.
04:27Let's go down to Direct Pay and click set up Automatic Payment Method.
04:32Now we can enter our Checking Account Information here, then click the Continue button.
04:37Go ahead and read over the Direct Pay Agreement and then Authorize your Checking
04:41Account to be used with this eBay account.
04:43Now, this Checking Account has been added to your eBay profile and you can use
04:48this Checking Account to pay for your eBay seller fees.
04:51Now that you've added a method of payment you're almost ready to start selling items.

Using security best practices
00:00We would like you online trading experiences to be successful.
00:04we're also concerned about market place safety and educating you about ways to
00:09protect yourself from any possibility of being taken advantage of online.
00:13If you're new to online trading, it's important to know that the vast majority
00:17of individuals who trade online are very honest and they'll do business with you fairly.
00:22But just like in the real world, doing business online can pose some
00:25opportunities for fraud and we would like to help you to avoid that by being
00:29aware of what's out there and being prepared for any thing that might come your way.
00:34By knowing the ins and outs of safe trading, you'll enjoy a pain-free experience
00:38and you'll be prepared for what might pop up when you do business online.
00:43Be sure you have a computer with antivirus and antispyware protection.
00:48One of the most common ways that internet website passwords are stolen by
00:52unscrupulous people is through computer infections that might share your
00:56information with third parties.
00:58Having a good antivirus program will help stop them dead in their tracks.
01:03Keep your antivirus protection software current and up-to-date. Do daily and
01:08weekly scans of entire computer for infections as well.
01:12Be aware of spoof emails and websites.
01:15A spoof email or site pretends to be someone legitimate such as eBay or PayPal,
01:20or even your bank or credit card company.
01:22Typically, scammers are very clever and convincing and might send you an email
01:27asking you to verify some personal information with the clever trick of trying
01:31to suggest that there is something wrong with your online account or that you
01:35need to re-verify your information.
01:37My suggestion? Never click a link or an email or an unfamiliar website that
01:41proceeds to ask you to sign in with eBay or your PayPal password.
01:46The email sender information can easily be altered and it's not a reliable
01:50indicator of who actually sent the email.
01:53Always type website addresses directly into your browser and go to that
01:57site before signing in.
01:59A spoof website URL will closely mimic an eBay or PayPal site but upon closer
02:05examination, you'll see that it's not the official site.
02:08For example, this string of numbers at the end of this URL, it's a telltale sign
02:13to me that this is totally fake.
02:16Be sure that you see the icon on your browser that indicates that you're on a
02:19secure website as well.
02:22Avoid using the same password for multiple websites. I would suggest having a
02:26different password for eBay and PayPal. That way, if you share your eBay password
02:31with family members or loved ones, you always have your personal or business
02:34PayPal account protected. Change passwords on your sites monthly just in case.
02:40The US government provides great current tips for safety on the internet, and
02:44eBay recommends that you visit onguardonline.gov and familiarize yourself with
02:49the current scams and help internet creditors try to rip you off.
02:53Always complete your transactions directly on the eBay site.
02:57Some clever scams include emailing you about an eBay auction and pretending to
03:01be eBay and asking you to complete that transaction offline using PayPal or in
03:07some instances asking you to send a Western Union money transfer or they might
03:11ask you to wire funds to a bank account. Never do this!
03:15It's always a scam.
03:17Never use an instant cash transfer service with strangers. This is always bound
03:21to be a ripoff too.
03:23If you are conducting a large dollar transaction, you can always use a safe
03:28escrow service such as escrow.com. This is an official partner of eBay and
03:32endorsed by the company.
03:35Be very careful when accepting personal checks, money orders, postal money
03:40orders or even foreign checks.
03:42I generally just don't do it, unless the dollar amounts are very small.
03:46If you sell a lot of ten dollar items, you might want to accept them but if
03:50you're selling items for hundreds or thousand of dollars, then I would steer
03:54clear of accepting these forms of payment from people that you don't know.
03:58Because they can be forged, with a clever use of color printers and scanners.
04:02eBay and PayPal will never ask you to sign in from an email or ask you for your
04:07password. Whenever you're in doubt contact eBay or PayPal using their contact
04:11information on their websites.
04:14If you're unsure about an email that you receive, you can always forward a copy
04:18of the entire message to spoof@ebay.com for anything related to eBay and
04:23spoof@paypal.com for anything related to PayPal.
04:26You'll receive a quick reply indicating if the message is real or fake.
04:32You know, being safe online is important and you're on your way to becoming more
04:36aware of how to trade in the safest way possible.
04:40Looking for the red flags is going to become second nature to you as you
04:44become more involved in online trading.
04:46Keeping yourself aware is the key to being safe.

Setting up an About Me page
00:01When you are brand spanking new to eBay, folks who trade with you, specifically
00:05anyone buying from you, will notice that you have very little or no feedback.
00:10It's true that eBay buyer protection is a huge incentive for buyers to trade
00:14with new sellers, because purchases are guaranteed.
00:17However, you can help to encourage sales by letting buyers know a little bit
00:20more about you through a thing called the About Me page.
00:24The About Me is about you.
00:26You have the opportunity to use this blank canvas to talk about your business
00:30and share details, photos, and some of your personality.
00:34You may be new to eBay, but you also may be a veteran in your own business, so
00:38be sure to talk about that.
00:40If you've been selling the same items for years, talk about your expertise, the
00:44year you started in business or anything else that might be relevant about you.
00:48I am going to show you a few pages that are called the About Me page on eBay and
00:52I will walk you through creating your own very simple About Me page.
00:55First, let's learn more about the About Me page, and I'm going to go ahead and
01:00click on Customer Support, then I am going to type in the about me page.
01:04Then I will click Search.
01:06Then you will be presented with some information about, About Me pages.
01:10I am going to go ahead and click Related help and I will click About Me Policy.
01:15Let's look at the About Me Policy for a minute.
01:17Here you can learn more about the service called About Me.
01:21It's an eBay page that's totally free and every user on eBay is allowed to create one.
01:26Using the About Me page allows you to inform your buyers all about you and
01:30talks about the items you are selling, and you can use it to display feedback
01:34you've received, and also you can tell other members about your favorite
01:37hobbies and your interests.
01:39Some people use the About Me to talk about their family.
01:41I usually recommend sticking to the business of who you are, not
01:44necessarily your personal life.
01:46But whatever, some people like to go ahead and put information about themselves
01:50personally and share information about their family, that's entirely up to you.
01:53What's not allowed on the About Me page are links that offer merchandise that's
01:57not listed on eBay, or links to other websites that may have something else
02:01unrelated to what you're selling on eBay.
02:04Also, links to the same merchandise somewhere else that's being offered for sale
02:07on a different site.
02:08So basically linking somewhere else is not permitted on the About Me page.
02:12You also can't promote sales outside of eBay on the About Me page, and there
02:16are other things that may be restricted from time to time in terms of the About Me page.
02:20It's really just information about you.
02:22Let's go ahead and scroll through and learn more about the About Me page in
02:25terms of creating an About Me page.
02:27We can go here and learn how that works.
02:29Here are the steps for doing that, and before we jump in and make one, I would
02:33like to go ahead and click on some different listings and show you what the
02:36About Me is all about.
02:38Over here on this listing page, on the far right-hand side, right under the eBay
02:43user ID for the seller, you can see a word called me, it's in blue and red.
02:49I am going to go ahead and click on the me, and you'll see information about the seller.
02:53Now, this is a really fancy About Me page.
02:56Now, I don't think that you need to have a page that's quite this fancy, but you
03:00can make a page this fancy by putting HTML and images into your About Me page.
03:05You can see here that Cameta Camera has been selling on eBay for a very long
03:08time, and Bill Cameta was actually presented an award by Meg, the former CEO of
03:12eBay, and you can see a picture of him right there.
03:15The About Me page talks about the seller, what they're selling, the merchandise,
03:19and their feedback score, and all kinds of information about the seller,
03:22including their contact number and so forth.
03:25You will notice that at the bottom of every About Me page, if you are signed
03:28into eBay, you will see a link to create your own About Me page.
03:32But let's go ahead and look at another About Me page.
03:35Something that's a little bit different, for OpAmerica, this is a Toy and Bank Museum.
03:40They have a little bit different About Me page, where they have put a Flash
03:43movie at the top of their About Me page.
03:45And if you look at that Flash movie, it allows you to scroll through some really
03:49nifty pictures in a Flash movie.
03:51You can click on one of the videos on the Flash movie and you can see more
03:58information about the seller through here, pictures of items that the seller
04:02sold and recent feedback.
04:04All of this can be embedded into the About Me page.
04:06Let's go back to the Help page we were on before and look at the About Me page
04:11system and learn how to make an About Me page.
04:13We will go ahead and click on the Create About Me Page, and since I've never
04:16actually created an About Me Page on this user ID, I am presented with the
04:21opportunity to create one.
04:22I click Create, and I'm presented with two choices.
04:25One is using the Step-by-Step form.
04:27the other is enter my own HTML code.
04:29If I click on the first choice, I will be presented with some options from eBay
04:34that go ahead and allow me to fill in some questions and answers and put them
04:37in, and once I'm done, I'll create a very, very attractive About Me Page.
04:42Since I only have plain text right now, I am going to go ahead and show you how
04:45to create an About Me page with just simple HTML.
04:48I am going to go ahead and click the second choice, and I've made up the text
04:51ahead of time in a Word document.
04:54So I have a very short amount of information about me in my About Me page text.
04:58I will go ahead and copy that and I will paste it right in here in this box.
05:02Once I do that, eBay will then allow me to save this information and create a
05:06very simple initial About Me page that I can later edit using an HTML editor,
05:11such as Dreamweaver, or any other tool that you might have, or if you know how
05:14to code HTML, you can just code it directly.
05:17Here is a basic About Me page preview, it shows what it will look like, and when
05:20I click on the Submit option, I will be able to go to my About Me page on eBay
05:24and take a look at it.
05:25It's not much to look at right now, but bear in mind, you can change this any
05:28way you like using HTML later.
05:31Now that I have an About Me page, you will see a logo that says me next to my
05:35user ID everywhere I go on the eBay site.
05:38When I click that logo, I will go directly to my About Me page.
05:41If I go to my User Profile, I will also see the About Me link there and I'll see
05:45that I'm a user with a me page, and anytime I'm on the eBay website and I want
05:49to click on the me page, I can go directly to it immediately.
05:53When you're logged in, you'll be able to edit your About Me page directly
05:56from the me page, and you can go ahead and use the Step-by-Step form or the HTML Editor.
06:01The more folks know about you and trust you, the more likely they are to buy
06:05from you as a trusted new friend.
06:07Share what you can about yourself now and keep your buyers informed through the
06:11About Me page by updating it whenever something new pops up that you'd like to
06:15share with your prospective buyers.

2. Navigating eBay's Help, Resources, and Community
Reaching out to Customer Support
00:00Getting help from Internet websites can be a daunting task for some.
00:03There is often a reason. It's hard to reach companies because providing customer
00:07support costs money.
00:08Most companies try and keep the information about their contact phone well
00:13hidden to avoid contact by their customers.
00:16Seems a little strange, doesn't it?
00:17eBay and PayPal do offer several methods of support and you'll want to discover
00:21the best ways to get help when you need it.
00:24For the eBay website, you're going to go ahead and sign in.
00:27You always need to be signed in when you're using eBay resources.
00:30So put in your eBay User ID and Password.
00:33Then be sure you check this box that says Keep me signed in.
00:36That allows you to stay signed in throughout the session.
00:40Once you're signed in, you'll see a Customer Support link up here at the
00:44top right-hand corner.
00:45Then select the sub-option, Customer Support.
00:49If you have a question about something, you can use the box here to enter that
00:53question in a normal sentence.
00:56you can just ask the question.
00:57In this case, What are the fees to sell on eBay?
01:03Then you can click on the Search option.
01:04Now when you do that, eBay is going to go through its vast database and find the
01:10answer to the question in the best way it can in an automated fashion.
01:15So you see here Fees for selling on eBay and you also see Fees for selling on an eBay Store.
01:20An eBay Store is like a virtual storefront that you can set up on eBay.
01:24We'll talk about that in a later movie.
01:26I'm going to go ahead and click on Fees for selling on eBay and take a look.
01:30Now there are two main fees for selling on eBay, and we're going to cover these
01:33in much more detail later.
01:34But basically eBay explains them in this Help file.
01:38So that's an easy way to get an answer when you want to know something.
01:41Then we can go ahead and click back here at the top, Find an answer, and we can
01:45see some Self service tools and some information that's here or Popular
01:49questions that are asked by people on eBay, or we can click here on Contact
01:54eBay, that's another option.
01:56Then eBay provides a variety of different links here.
01:59Now if you're asking eBay about selling, which is what we're doing, we can go
02:03ahead and select something, like Selling tools.
02:06You'll notice that different types of links present different contact options.
02:10It's a little strange at first, but it does make sense.
02:13Some of the simpler questions are answered through Live Chat.
02:17eBay offers Live Chat for certain topics, such as in this case, we asked
02:22about selling tools.
02:23And eBay have a lot of different selling tools for sellers.
02:26You can go ahead and click on the Chat with us option.
02:29You'll see the hours of operation listed there, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, 7 days a week.
02:33And if you click on Chat with us, eBay will go ahead and present you with the
02:37option to chat about an item.
02:40You can also just chat for general reasons without having an Item number.
02:43An Item number is the eBay item number that you might be contacting them about.
02:47Since we haven't listed anything yet, I don't have one.
02:50So I'll go ahead and click Start Chat.
02:52At this point, we've been told that an agent will be with us in about one minute.
02:58Then you'll see a Live Chat Box pop up and you'll have a chance to talk with a Live Agent.
03:03So I'm going to go ahead and enter in a question for the agent, I see Joseph is helping me now.
03:09And I'll say I have a question about the best tools to use for a new seller and
03:18I have not yet listed any items.
03:23What do you recommend?
03:25Then I click Send, and then Joseph is going to answer my question.
03:29Now he did ask for my first name and my e-mail address, so I probably should
03:33answer that question.
03:38So Joseph has come back to me and recommended Turbo Lister, which is a free
03:42listing tool that eBay offers.
03:44I'm going to go ahead and thank Joseph and I'm going to continue on with some
03:47other resources on eBay for help.
03:48Then I go ahead and exit the chat session.
03:57Now going back to the eBay website and selecting some different topics, you will
04:01notice that other topics allow you to call eBay.
04:05Now if you just want to cut to the chase, the toll-free number to reach eBay is 866-540-3229.
04:12But if I ask eBay about listing an item, you'll notice that if I click on that
04:16link, it allows you to call eBay.
04:19Different types of questions present different types of support options.
04:23You can call eBay from 5:00 am to 10 :00 pm Pacific Time, 7 days a week.
04:27If you click the link here, you'll go ahead and receive a toll-free number for
04:31calling eBay as well as a calling PIN which is the unique number that you'll
04:35give to the eBay system to identify you.
04:38It allows you to quickly get to an agent who can help you with your account.
04:42Now don't expect a miracle when you call.
04:44eBay is there to answer your most common technical questions, but in terms of
04:49strategy and selling theory, their agents are more likely to be able to help you
04:53with the most general of questions and those that are technically oriented.
04:57If you run into any trouble on the eBay website or PayPal website or you have
05:01issues with the transaction, that's why the support options are there.
05:04Now let's take a moment to look at support options for PayPal.
05:08I'm going to go to the PayPal website, and I'll go ahead and sign in with my password.
05:15As with eBay, PayPal offers a variety of different support options, and we're
05:19going to go ahead and start with the link here at the top of the page, which is Help.
05:25Now you'll see this great little tool here which allows you to browse by topic.
05:29So if you want to learn about a specific topic such as PayPal basics or Fees,
05:34or you want to learn about Disputes and Claims or Merchant Options, things that
05:38you can do to enhance your PayPal business account, or learn about your
05:42account, such as how to verify your account or manage your preferences, you can
05:47also go through all these other tools here and learn about different aspects of
05:50your PayPal account.
05:51So if you want to try out an automated computer, there is a system called Sarah.
05:57Sarah is actually a computer helper, and she'll assist you with questions that
06:01you might have about your PayPal account.
06:03So if I ask Sarah something like, Sarah, How do I learn about PayPal fees?
06:10You can just ask her in normal English.
06:12She'll provide you with quick answers.
06:14And here she says there are some fees for receiving payments for goods and services.
06:19Okay.
06:19And she talks about the fees page.
06:21I'm going to click on this link, and then we'll see a little option here to open
06:25that page, so I click there.
06:27And there you go, viola!
06:29I can quickly learn about the fees for receiving money on PayPal.
06:33Also there's a link here for cross border payments.
06:35That's if you're going to receive money from someone who is overseas.
06:38So there's a lot of great information here and Sarah provides an automated
06:42support option that allows you to type in questions and quickly get answers to them.
06:47I'm going to go ahead and close Sarah and take a look at some of the other
06:52options that are offered by PayPal.
06:54You can also type your question into the Help Center.
06:56So if you want to learn about eChecks.
06:58eChecks are electronic checks.
07:00Just like a handwritten check, an electronic check is something that you can
07:03receive through PayPal.
07:05So you can learn about eChecks here and PayPal provides links to various
07:09resources to learn about eChecks.
07:11You can read the answer to your question and you can also print the page if you'd like to.
07:17Now there are other resources that are available.
07:19Let's go back up to Help and let's take a look at some of the other options.
07:25Now there is a thing called the Community Help Forum.
07:29Just like it sounds, a forum is a community, that's a place where other members
07:33of the PayPal community can interact with each other.
07:36There are some fun titles such as Watercooler or simple things like Fees, how
07:40the fees work and how to manage account settings.
07:43All these forums are there where other members of the PayPal community respond
07:47to you and to help you with your PayPal questions.
07:50When you click on a topic and you look in here, you can see all these
07:54different threads that are being posted by individuals who have signed up for the PayPal forum.
08:00Now you can post a topic here or you can go ahead and go back to the homepage
08:05and look at some other support options as well.
08:08There is a way to contact PayPal through phone and e-mail.
08:11So if you look at the bottom of the PayPal page here, you'll see Contact Us.
08:16You have a couple of different ways to reach PayPal.
08:18Of course, we've already talked about these options here, Quick Answers and
08:21Chatting with Sarah, or the Community pages.
08:24You can also call PayPal.
08:26Now if you want to just call PayPal support, the number is 888-221-1161 and you
08:32can use a calling PIN here to identify yourself.
08:35Agents are available at the hours that you see here on the screen, 6:00 AM to
08:3912:00 AM Monday through Friday and 8: 00 AM to 10:00 PM Saturday and Sunday.
08:44You also have the ability to e-mail PayPal.
08:47So if you have a question about your account and you want to just send an
08:49e-mail that's not urgent, but you need an answer about something, you can go
08:52ahead and choose a topic.
08:54So if you want to choose a topic about your account and then a subtopic, so you
08:59might have questions about passwords or confirming an address or how to become a
09:04verified member or changing an account type.
09:06any of these things that you might be interested in doing.
09:09So I'm going to go ahead and put in here, I'm having a password problem.
09:12Then you can type in your message here.
09:16So I've asked PayPal to go ahead and let me know how to change my password.
09:20Then I go ahead and Submit that.
09:23Now we've just covered some of the most basic ways to get support for eBay and
09:27PayPal in this movie.
09:29There are lots of help and support options that you'll discover along the way as
09:33you use these websites more frequently.

Using eBay's educational resources
00:00You can never have too much education, but it is possible to get
00:03analysis paralysis.
00:05I certainly do not want the latter, but if you're the type of person who really
00:09likes to dive deep into the driver's manual before you take that car for a spin,

02:11light and photograph this purse.
02:13Now this video shows you how to use just everyday lighting to take great
02:18pictures and you'll notice that the lights are actually clipped on to
02:20little trash cans and they're using just a standard consumer grade camera

00:16practices for staying secure while trading online.

00:28all kinds of helpful resources about how to Protect Your Identity, Protecting
00:33your Computer, Reporting Problems to eBay when they arise and More Resources for
00:38trading securely on eBay and PayPal.

00:52You can navigate through the different sections and you can click on links that
00:55will provide you with the information that eBay wants you to learn about for
00:59things like Creating Strong Passwords for your account.
01:03You'll find other presentations about things like Spotting Spoof Emails.
01:06those are fraudulent e-mails that try to steal your password by sending you fake
01:11links pretending to be eBay or PayPal.
01:13And the common ways that these fraudsters try to trick you, and we'll be talking
01:17about spoofs a little bit later.
01:19But you can learn about if an e-mail is a real e-mail or a spoof e-mail by using
01:24eBay's messaging service, eBay has a proprietary message system where you're
01:28guaranteed to be protected against these spoof e-mails.
01:31You'll also find other links about things like using Antivirus Software and how

01:58So these resources at the Security Center are very helpful, they're always being
02:02updated on a regular basis.
02:04I suggest Bookmarking this page, so that you can always have it handy, in case
02:08you have a question about trading safely.

00:40If you want to learn more about an eBay member and you have their eBay username
00:43you can enter it here.
00:44So I am going to go ahead and enter my username which is borntodeal on eBay and
00:49then you require to enter in these securities codes, this is called a Captcha
00:53that just prevents automated computers from mining the eBay website and then
00:58you'll see more information about my eBay user ID borntodeal and you can see
01:02that I have been a member on eBay for 12 years 3 months and there are all kinds
01:06of links here, you can see I am a Top rated seller and there is a biographical

01:22going to take a look at some of the other links here such as the Feedback Form.
01:25You can learn more about giving and receiving feedback here and because eBay has
01:30a feedback system where you can give points like feedback points and comments to
01:35your fellow eBay members, this is a great place to learn more about that and

01:45I'll go ahead and take a look at some additional links here in Community.

02:01you want from customer support on eBay, other eBay experts and eBay community
02:06members can answer those questions for you.
02:09Perhaps you want to learn more about selling antiques and collectibles on eBay.
02:12Sometimes that's very popular on eBay.
02:14But you are not really sure how to get started.
02:16You can go ahead and ask specific questions here.
02:18So I am going to post a question.
02:20I can Ask a New Question by clicking this button right here and then I can post
02:24a question about something like Antique Ivory.
02:27Now I happen to know that Ivory is not allowed on eBay so I don't want to put
02:31an ivory item on eBay because it is not permitted but if I want to ask a
02:35question about eBay I can go ahead and categorize that, you can see the
02:39different kinds of categories here.
02:41There are things such as Search or Registration or Listing items.
02:46All of this information here can be used to categorize your question.
02:50So I am going to go ahead and put mine under the Auction Listings and I am going
02:53to ask this question.
02:54Can I list an antique ivory netsuke on eBay and that's just like a little ivory
03:03figuring and you can put some optional tags here and I am going to type in the
03:07Tag ivory, you can separate tags with commas and you can go ahead and put other
03:11keywords in here and you can watch this question which means that once you post
03:15it you will be a notified when someone answers.
03:18So I have gone ahead and post that and I have asked the question on the
03:21Answer Center and then eventually someone will come along and answer the question for me.
03:25The Answer Center is a great way to get quick answers from eBay community
03:29members, a very powerful tool.
03:30Then we also have this little list over here on the left-hand side, once you are
03:35in the Community section you can switch over to another community.
03:38Here is a Discussion board.
03:40If there are specific topics you're interested in, in this case I was interested
03:43in learning more about Antiques I can go right to the topic and go into a
03:47category specific board there is tons of boards.
03:50This allows you to learn about things such as selling Cars on eBay or selling
03:55Collectibles and antiques or everything in between.
03:58If you want to learn more about selling Fine Jewelry, you can click here and you
04:01can start a thread or read an existing thread on the eBay Discussion Boards.
04:06Once you're in here, you can take a look at some of the existing topics that are already there.
04:11You can go ahead and start a New Topic if you wish as well.
04:14I've showed you how to do that in the Answer Center, it's the same process or
04:18you can go to different eBay community such as Groups.
04:21Now Groups are people that have like interest.
04:23So if you like Ham radios and you want to learn more about selling ham radios on
04:27eBay you can go onto a group and there's probably an existing group on a
04:32specific subject, so you can go ahead and type in some key word searches and
04:36learn more about it.
04:37So I am going to go ahead and type in radios and see what I come up with.
04:42A bunch of different groups pop up, you can see there are four different groups
04:45here they came up with the key words in it and if you're interested in selling
04:49and buying and trading ham radios, you can go ahead and click on this link here
04:53and you will learn more about the ham radios group.
04:55You can join a group to just by clicking Join Group.
04:58Some groups are moderated and you have to be approved to be a member of that
05:02group, so you'll be notified once you're approved.
05:04You can also start your own group, if you don't find a group that interests you
05:07and start one on a subject that you are interested in.
05:10Then you can learn more about other eBay members using the Profiles section and
05:15you can browse through profiles, if you are just curious and you want to learn
05:18more about other people on eBay you can just scroll through Profiles or you can
05:22type in an eBay user ID.
05:24Then there are Chat rooms.
05:26Now it seems like some of these are similar like, what's the difference between
05:30a chat room or a group or a discussion board.
05:34Well, as you get into these different sections of the communities on eBay you
05:37will understand each one has sort of their own look and feel and the way that
05:41you communicate with people is different, the purpose is different.
05:45You can't promote products and services on the Discussion Boards, but in Chat
05:49Rooms you can kind of talk freely and discuss things such as if you are
05:53interested in doing charity giving.
05:54If you have a big heart, you want to donate to charity, there is a chat room for
05:58that, you can go in there and talk about giving.
06:00In the chat room the very first thing you will see is just a quick place to
06:03type in a message and you will see all the people chattering about giving and so forth.
06:08And you might say here, I have got some great ideas for selling some celebrity
06:17memorabilia on eBay, would someone please direct me to the resources for charity selling?
06:29And then when I go ahead and Save my message, someone will come along and chat alongside me.
06:34Now the difference here is when someone responds, it will be like in a long
06:38thread just sort like a social media site.
06:41That's the difference between chat and discussion boards are little more
06:44organized and you communicate with people on specific topics.
06:48Chat rooms are more of a free-for-all.
06:49You can kind of talk about just about anything you want there.
06:52There are some other things to, your foreign resources about Systems
06:56Announcements here on eBay.
06:57So if there is a system announcement about some policy changes or something else
07:02is coming up on eBay like system outages or special and important notifications
07:06that you need to be aware of, eBay will go ahead and notify you.
07:09Here we see Todd Lutwak, one of the eBay employees talking about a one-day only
07:14sale list up to a 150 items for free on September 13.
07:17It is important to look out for things because you can save a ton of money by
07:22looking for these sales and promotions on the Announcements section on the eBay community.
07:28There is a whole gang of information here.
07:30You can spend a lot of time learning and educating yourself.
07:33Are you feeling a bit overwhelmed its okay?
07:36I was too when I first started on eBay.
07:38Take a deep breath and just know that there are always resources and people
07:42available to help you on the eBay community and these are some of the fantastic
07:47resources that are always there for you day or night.
07:50So you can learn from others, share your opinions and get involved in the eBay community.

3. Searching (a Must for Sellers)
Doing a basic search
00:00If you've ever used a search engine before and I'm pretty sure you have since
00:04you have an Internet connection, think of eBay as a big collection of items
00:08for sale with a cool and intuitive search engine to help you find what your heart desires.
00:14We will explore the most basic of searches and we will learn how to quickly find
00:18merchandise using keywords.
00:20For sellers learning how buyers find your items and how they're ranked in
00:24searches will help you cater your eBay business to achieve the best search
00:28results and catalyze more sales.
00:31It's important when you're doing searches on eBay that you use keywords and not
00:35grammatically correct phrases.
00:37I am going to search for a few things and the first thing I am going to search
00:40for is something that I find fun and cute which is an r2d2 cookie jar.
00:46Since I'm a big Star Wars fan I am going to go ahead and find these on eBay. Wow!
00:51There are eight of them with R2D2 right there, look at that.
00:54Now this is a list of the searches for the cookie jars and you'll notice right
01:00away here there are some Related Searches that eBay puts in front of you and
01:04shows you some other possible things you might be interested in.
01:06This is using eBay's own logic.
01:08they have this little logic that they put in there.
01:11Now when you search for items on eBay there's a computer software program that
01:15analyzes all the items that are listed on eBay and presents to you the list of
01:20items that it thinks would be appropriate for you to look at using what's called best match.
01:26If you're a seller on eBay best match is determined based on criteria that you could earn.
01:31I say earn because your listing accrues points automatically as it gets closer
01:36to the time that your auction or your fixed price listing ends, and we'll talk
01:40about those formats a little later.
01:42Your listing also loses points if you have a 3.9 or lower rating on the shipping
01:48and handling charges feedback score in your detailed seller ratings.
01:52Feedback is the score that you're receiving from your buyers.
01:55So your listing gets better results and searches as your feedback goes up in
02:00shipping and handling.
02:02Your listing gains or loses points depending on your shipping methods and the
02:06shipping and handling fees that you're charging your buyer.
02:09So the higher your shipping and handling, the lower your points are in terms of
02:12that section of best match.
02:15Your listing also gains points if you can identify and include certain keywords
02:19in your title and that's something that eBay doesn't really publish or explain
02:24but they say that that is part of the logic for finding things on eBay.
02:28This is the thing they call Best Match.
02:30It's an obscure sort of a thing but you can rest assure that if you use the best
02:34practices we teach you in this course, you will be definitely sure to get your
02:38listings up at the top of the search results.
02:41You can also sort things using this option here.
02:44This is Sort by feature and when you want to sort, you have the option to use
02:48the sort for ending soonest, newly listed, shipping and handling plus the price
02:53of the item, lowest first and highest.
02:56Then just the price of the item, highest, and then also items that are near you
03:00or best match which we just talked about.
03:02So if I was looking for bargains I'd go ahead and look at items with the lowest
03:06cost including shipping and handling.
03:08You can see that the shipping information is included here in the search or if
03:12I was looking for really rare things I might switch it around and look at highest prices.
03:16Either way, you can also see these little icons that show you who the top
03:19sellers are, people that have great ratings on eBay and have been doing a great
03:23job taking care of their buyers and getting good feedback scores.
03:27You can refine your searches as well a little bit but let's talk a little bit
03:30more about some of these tabs series here you see at the top.
03:33We have the ability to filter out Auctions only.
03:36That's if someone's offering an item up to the highest bidder.
03:39Now Auction-Style Listings have basically launched eBay, that was the early eBay
03:44site, it was all about auctions.
03:46But you also have the ability to purchase something at a fixed price and that's
03:50this filter right here which allows you to click a button and this immediately
03:54buy that cookie jar right away.
03:55Well, these are pretty expensive cookie jars so I'd better put only my
03:59finest cookies in them.
04:01You can also go to Related Searches, if you are seeing something up here that
04:05might catch your interest.
04:06you might see some other searches that are offered.
04:09I am a Star Trek fan as well as a Star Wars fan, so I am going to see
04:12what's going on over here. Oh wow!
04:14Look at that.
04:15You can get a Star Trek Cookie Jar with Mr.
04:17Spock on it, that's a kind of cool cookie jar.
04:20So these different search features are here to help you find items and as a
04:24seller, you want to know exactly how the eBay system will present the
04:28information to your buyers so that you can find just exactly what keywords and
04:33what information is needed to get the items sold, so that the buyers will find
04:38them quickly and easily.
04:39I am going to show you something else.
04:40If you are going to do a search on eBay and you are going to search for
04:43something in particular, you can type in a keyword such as camera which is very
04:47broad and you'll notice right away that a huge number of search results come up
04:52for the word camera.
04:53Over here we can narrow our search down by looking in specific categories.
04:57Now Cameras & Photo would be an appropriate category if we're going to be
05:01looking to purchase a camera.
05:03We can click Search here.
05:04You will notice over here there is also a checkbox that allows you to search the description.
05:09When you're searching for something on eBay the initial search is just the titles.
05:14Now if I want to narrow my search down a little bit, I could type in the word
05:18Nikon and that would bring up just the Nikon cameras.
05:21Now I'm looking for a specific make and model of Nikon so I am going to go ahead
05:25and type in the model number which is D80 and I am going to go ahead and
05:29complete that search.
05:30Now you will notice that I am drilling down and drilling down to even fewer and
05:33fewer results and the results are even lower now.
05:37Now as I go through and I narrow my search results you will see here on the left
05:41inside there are these options to filter even deeper.
05:44So if I just want to look at specifically the Digital Cameras on eBay the search
05:48results are narrowed down to 64.
05:50So that's how you can kind of go down and narrow and what I call drilling down
05:54to a specific search that will help you find the items that you're looking for.
05:59Now when you click on Include description, eBay will search through the
06:03entire description of the listing, all the information that's been provided
06:06by the seller and it will find anything with keywords that are including the description.
06:11You can do that but you will find that unless you're really specific like make
06:14and a model you see here you might get a really large amount of search results
06:18more than you could possibly use.
06:20Let's talk a little bit about the bottom of the page here.
06:23We have a thing that's called Pagination.
06:25Now if you go to the very bottom of this page, you can show 25 results per page,
06:30you can show 50, 100 or 200.
06:33So you can change the number of items that will appear on a single page and
06:37that's very helpful especially if you want to go through a larger number and
06:40look at them quicker, you can certainly do that as well.
06:44There is also a Customized view option.
06:46If you look over here you'll see a little option here to customize the view and your Zip code.
06:50You can change your Zip code if you click there or you can customize your view.
06:53There are different parts of the search that can be customized such as the
06:58formatting and if you look through here you can see all the different features
07:01you can change, such as showing the searches in List view, Picture gallery view
07:06or Side-by-side view.
07:08You can change the default of how many will show up in a page which we
07:11showed you earlier.
07:13If you change it here, it will be saved permanently until you adjust your Custom View again.
07:18Item Information can be adjusted.
07:20You can show things such as the eBay item number if you wanted to.
07:22I am going to go ahead and do that because that's one of the things I like to
07:25be able to show when I am searching through things, you can see the eBay item number.
07:28In case I wanted to share that information with somebody else that I know you
07:32can see that on the listing.
07:34Now once you've gone ahead and made some adjustments here you can also change
07:38the view by going up to the View as option.
07:41So if you want to change the view to a Gallery View, you can sort of see things
07:44in a picture gallery method.
07:46You can see how that looks more like a picture gallery and then you have this
07:51one, which is the Side-by-side view.
07:52So it just depends on what's your preference as to how you want to see
07:55the search results.
07:56You can customize all of these things and it makes it very, very easy to find.
08:00Now let's assume that I've kind of refined my search, I've got it the way I want
08:05it to be but I didn't find the exact item at the price that I'm interested in
08:10paying, I can save this search for later and have eBay notify me when they find
08:15more of these listings on the eBay site.
08:18There's a checkbox here that says, Hey eBay!
08:21Go ahead and email me every day when you find items that match this exact search.
08:25I can then go ahead and Save this and we'll talk a little bit later about how
08:30these saved searches can be modified, edited, deleted and so forth in the
08:35section about My eBay.
08:36We will cover more complex searches but now you have the most basic search
08:41procedures under your belt.
08:43There are so many ways that you search to your advantage of course as a seller
08:47and we will review the most common ways to find and review competitive listings
08:51on eBay in subsequent training.

Doing an advanced search
00:00You may be asking yourself the reason for all of this eBay search training,
00:04but please trust me, it is critical to fully understand how to find
00:08merchandise on eBay.
00:09Many sellers not only use eBay Search to help them price items and to size up
00:14their competition, but being able to find items that are poorly listed is also a
00:19source of merchandise supply.
00:21You can pick up deals, because of other sellers mistakes, and even resell those
00:25purchases back on eBay for a profit.
00:28Let's explore a few more ways to search, and although we won't endeavor to cover
00:32every possible search scenario, we'll uncover some great tips to help you find
00:37just about anything on eBay.
00:39So the first tip I want to show you is that you can type in an eBay item number
00:43into any of the search boxes on eBay, so I'm going to go ahead and do that now.
00:48A friend told me about this eBay listing, and I wanted to take a look at it.
00:51All I've to do is type the number directly into the search box and click Search, and voila!
00:58There comes the listing.
00:59This is for an American silver coin.
01:02So if someone tells you about an item, you just say, hey, what's the item number?
01:05And that item number is always going to be found over here on the right-hand side.
01:09You can also go back to the homepage and do what's called an Advanced Search.
01:14Advanced Search is this little link right here, go ahead and click it and then
01:19you'll see a page with the bunch of different search options.
01:22The very, very first thing you see is the Find Items option.
01:26So I'm going to go ahead and type in some keywords here, and I'm going to look
01:30up some specific keyword.
01:31So first of all I'm interested in a watch, I want to find a watch.
01:35Secondly, there are other options here, such as words we can Exclude, so if we
01:39want to take words out of the search, we can do that.
01:42You have Category options here as well and I'm going to go ahead and search All Categories.
01:47You can automatically save this search and there's a whole bunch of different
01:50information here that you can check in order to do things like searching
01:54Titles and Descriptions or even just Completed Listings that's the ended listings on eBay.
01:59I'm going to go ahead and limit my search to a specific price range.
02:02I want to search for watches under $ 25 and I want to go down and look for
02:08specific sellers, so I'm going to search just listings under borntodeal, now you
02:12may remember borntodeal is my user ID.
02:15You can go ahead and play around with all these other search tools and
02:18search options, but I'm going to go ahead and limit my search to just items
02:22that I'm selling for $0-$25.
02:25Now if someone called me and say hey, I want to learn more about your items and
02:28I'm interested in watches, what do you have that's under $25?
02:31That's one way that I could quickly show a list to that person and I could
02:35either send them a link to this search or I could tell them about a specific watch.
02:40That's a quick and easy way to do it.
02:41But there are also additional stuff you can do with the Advanced Search, if you
02:45go back to here and you click on Advanced, you'll see on the left hand side you
02:50can search on items for eBay Motors.
02:53We can also search By a specific seller, so just like I searched earlier for
02:58borntodeal, you could just look up all of the items for a specific User ID.
03:03You can search items that have been bid on by specific bidders that could be a
03:06handy tool to see what your neighbors might be buying on eBay.
03:10that might be a great way to find out.
03:12And you can limit that search to items where that person was just the high
03:16bidder or where they have purchased things in the past month.
03:19Or you can look up item number, just like we did earlier which we were able to
03:22do by putting in the Search box.
03:24Or we can search only eBay Stores.
03:27that's another search option, and we can Find Stores by their name.
03:30So if someone says, yeah, I've a Store under certain name, you know, I want to
03:33go ahead and type in that, I can go ahead and find that specific store name and
03:38you can look them up.
03:39You see, that's my Store Kindlecause.
03:42There's other options too, such as Finding member, Contact Information or
03:45Finding a member, you can go ahead and do that here.
03:47If you have a trade with another user on eBay, you can go ahead and type in
03:51their user ID, and that's a great way to get a hold of people, if you want to.
03:55Now I'm going to show you one more little trick, and we've all heard the term
03:58brooch, which is a piece of jewelry that you wear.
04:00And if you spell it correctly, you can go ahead and find a lot of brooches
04:04on eBay, like almost 200,000, but this misspellings that I was telling you about earlier.
04:09If you look up keywords that you think would potentially be misspelled versions
04:14of a correctly spelled word, you can go ahead and type them in.
04:17Now I just typed in the word broach and I've got a lot of listings.
04:20But what if I type in the word antique broach, look at this, I will be able to
04:25find people who have misspelled the word broach, and find some interesting
04:30bargains here for $3, I'm finding it very interesting antique broach, and I
04:35think it's pretty cool.
04:36And I'm actually going to go ahead and take a look at this, I might consider
04:39buying it, it's a really neat piece.
04:41Now if you scroll through the results here, you can see a lot of interesting
04:44pieces and you have to be careful though, because you'll also find people who
04:48are listing items with the word antique and it's not actually antique.
04:53I can tell by looking at this, this is a reproduction, and I think the word ST
04:57probably means style, which isn't really an honest way to be listing stuff.
05:01you need to be careful about stuff like that.
05:03But you look at some of these broaches and you look at these pieces and you'll say wow!
05:07This misspelled word actually may create an opportunity for me to buy something
05:11that's worth a lot of money and I can turn around and resell on eBay.
05:15I'm going to scroll through a few more of these listings and take a look at them.
05:18There is a lot of interesting pieces here that I'm finding with my Special Search.
05:23And I might be able to pick up a few bargains like this silver broach here for
05:27$10.50, I can probably turn around and sell it back on eBay for maybe $50 or
05:31$100, you never know.
05:32So this is a great way to take advantage of the Advanced Search options and
05:38we've got a taste of advanced searches now, and you'll have to do some of these
05:41on your own to really master the process of using Advanced search techniques.
05:46Take some time to challenge yourself to find some items that might interest you.
05:50Do you want to buy a new car for example, or maybe you just need to find a piece
05:54of mom's favorite china pattern that was accidentally broken, did you break it?
05:59Well, you can go and replace it on eBay.
06:01Whatever it is that you're seeking, you'll learn how to explore the
06:04competitive eBay marketplace and discover what's out there, how it's priced,
06:09and as a seller, learn how to best present your items to buyers who are
06:13looking for what you're selling.

Browsing categories
00:00As an eBay seller you may wish to learn how to browse eBay's various categories,
00:04specifically categories for the merchandise that interest you, so that you can
00:09find items that may be poorly listed and pick up some bargains along the way
00:13that you can turn around and resell on eBay, or you might just find out more
00:17about the categories in general and what's in them before you decide to sell
00:20something in those categories.
00:22From the eBay home page you'll see a set of categories here on the left-hand
00:27side, these are the most popular categories that you'll see here, these are
00:30the ones that people go to the most, or you can click over here and see All the Categories.
00:35The ones you see that popped up over here on the right-hand side are called top
00:39level categories, and like branches you have on a tree, the top level categories
00:44are the main branches of categories that people go to, and I'm interested in
00:49looking at the Musical Instruments.
00:50And in fact, I want to look at Gibson Guitars, so I click on the Musical
00:54Instruments category, this is called Browsing.
00:56Unlike typing in a keyword search, browsing allows you to find things without
01:01necessarily searching a keyword.
01:03There are additional filters here on the left that allows you to continue to
01:07Browse down, we call this drilling down, that's the term I use for that, where
01:11you can click on Browse by Guitar and then something specific, such as Electric Guitars.
01:17There are 35,987 in this particular search, you may recall in a prior movie
01:23we talked about the Related Searches you can see at the top here, if you want to click on them.
01:27You also have the ability to filter by Auctions Only or Buy It Now listings.
01:32So if you want to bid or buy it now, you can do that.
01:35And you have the ability to change the way that these listings are Sorted, just
01:40as we did in a prior movie for basic search.
01:42In this case I am going to go ahead and look at items that are nearest to me
01:45first, so that I can perhaps buy this Gibson Guitar and pick it up in person, so
01:50I might be interested in doing that.
01:52Before I get to Gibson, because I am looking at all the Guitars right now, I can
01:57either click on this related search to get right to Gibson, or I could select
02:01down here Gibson in the Brands are 1, 692 it said, and it was right, then I can
02:06go and Browse through these Guitars.
02:09Now we've talked about bargain hunting, when you are bargain hunting in a
02:12category you may find things that are miscategorized, like this item here isn't
02:16a Guitar and you might find something that's not selling well, but may be it's a
02:20bargain you would like to pick up.
02:22You'll get a better understanding of this as you look through, but you'll see a
02:25lot of miscategorized items or items with misspelled titles that you can use to
02:29pick up and purchase a bargain when you're on there.
02:32On the left hand inside there are bunch of different filters that you can use
02:36such as limiting the Price or looking up items by, in this case for Guitars
02:40Right or Left-Handed, String Configuration, Country of Manufacture, and many
02:44other attributes that you can look at there.
02:47Browsing categories is easy and a great way to hunt for those bargains as a
02:51seller when you're seeking sources of supply for buying items that you can turn
02:56around and sell for a quick and significant profit.

Organizing favorites
00:00Saving information for later use can be helpful as a seller.
00:03Sometimes you'll want to be notified when items similar to what you're selling
00:07are also listed on eBay, so you can monitor prices and your competition.
00:12you keep a little eye on them.
00:15We're going to organize a few searches and seller, so that you can see how
00:19to track what's going on and stay current on the marketplace with less work
00:23and more automation.
00:24First of all I want to show you My eBay for the first time, over here you'll see
00:29My eBay, which is a place where you can organize all your information on eBay
00:34and you'll be able to click in here into My eBay, and you come to a landing page
00:37which is here we'll talk in more depth about My eBay a little later.
00:41There's a section called Lists and in your List you have All your Lists, you
00:46have Watch List items that you're watching, Saved searches and Saved sellers.
00:51So let go ahead and show you how this works, if I go and I pull up an item, we
00:54looked at a coin earlier, I'll go ahead and pull that coin up again.
00:59If we're signed into the eBay site, you'll be able to look at this coin and if
01:04you're interested in monitoring the coin or just keeping the information for
01:07later use, you can use this link over here which is called Add to Watch list, so
01:13if I click on Add to Watch list, you'll see a blue bar come here, and it will
01:17say its Added to your Watch list.
01:19Now I can immediately go to my Watch list by clicking this link right here, or I
01:24can go to My eBay, and I can go ahead and look at all the items I'm watching.
01:28Now if I scroll down to my Lists again, you can see my Watch List & my Other Lists.
01:34The Watch List allows you to see items that you've bookmarked, essentially
01:37you've kept them in your virtual filing cabinet here for later review, you can
01:41see All the items you're watching or you can see Active items, obviously, the
01:45two items that I've bookmarked are both Active still and if they have Ended,
01:48they'll go under this section over here, if they've actually completed.
01:52You also have the ability to Save some searches, so if you look over here,
01:55you'll see I have some Saved Searches that I've Saved earlier.
01:59I have Save some Searches for BMW 5- Series automobiles and you may recall when
02:04we were searching for the Nikon camera I saved that search and also a specific
02:09model of Dolce & Gabbana I wear.
02:12Now if I click on one of my Saved searches, I will immediately go to a search
02:16on eBay for that item.
02:17Now eBay will automatically Email you on a regular basis for this Saved Searches.
02:22So, if you save a search, you'll get a regular Email saying, hey, these items
02:26have arrived in the wrong eBay.
02:28If you wanted to search for something in particular, let's say you wanted to
02:31find an iPad charger, since iPads are pretty darn popular right now, you would
02:36click Go and you would be able to see a list of all the iPad chargers.
02:40If I wanted to save this search for a later date, I would click on the Save
02:44Search option and eBay would then quickly Save this information, Email me
02:49everyday when these items on eBay, and of course, I am going to get this huge
02:53Email with thousands of items, because I have all of these search results.
02:57But basically if you have a smaller search, something more specific like the
03:01Gibson Guitar we were looking for, you'll be able to bookmark it and eBay will
03:04notify you on a daily basis.
03:06Here you'll see the iPad charger saved in our Saved Searches, and if I were
03:11to click on that, I would immediately go to the iPad Charger's search that I had earlier.
03:16Now I am going to step back and take a look again, and this time I can Edit my
03:20search, so if I wanted to Edit my search, I can go ahead and change it, and then
03:24Save changes to my search.
03:26So lets say I wanted to find iPad chargers, but I only wanted to find specific
03:30Prices, let's say from $0-$20, I can go ahead and make a change to my search
03:36and then Save it again.
03:38So once I do that, I'll go ahead and Replace the existing iPad charger search
03:43and eBay will still Email me the information on a daily basis.
03:47Once I do that I can go back here with this Quick Link and go back to My eBay
03:51and see the Saved Search, and once again, that now has a filter here for only
03:56items that are less then $20
03:59You can do other things too, like pull down this option here which allows you to
04:03Delete the search, Edit your Email options, you can go ahead and turn off the
04:07Email notification if you want, and that way you can just go into My eBay and
04:11click it if you want to search for those items.
04:13You can Add a note here, which is My sister Mariam is looking for one of these,
04:21and then I can go ahead and Save that.
04:23You also can go ahead and Add it to a list, so if you have a list of things that
04:28you're interested in managing, you can say Gifts for Mariam, you can make it
04:34part of your Wish List here, and you can go ahead and make up a special list
04:38that would just be for somebody special in your life, like my sister, if I am
04:41looking for things for her.
04:44So this is how you organize these searches and you'll see the note there that I
04:48added or I can go ahead and just Delete that search from the Bookmarks there.
04:53Now let's talk a little bit about looking up sellers, so if I wanted to look up
04:57a specific seller and Bookmark them, I could go to Advanced Search and if
05:01somebody is giving me their user ID and saying, hey, go check out my items on
05:05eBay, I might say, what's your Email or what's your user ID?
05:08I can click on Find member in Advanced search and put in their user ID or their Email.
05:13Now Uncle Griff, which is Jim Griffith, he was the first Customer Service Rep for eBay.
05:19He is somebody who's a friend of mine and I've worked with him before on eBay
05:22University, and I am going to go ahead and look up his user ID on eBay and I am
05:27going to Search for it.
05:28You'll see uncle_griff here, and you'll be able to see that he has been on eBay, wow!
05:3215 years and 4 months.
05:33He has got his own eBay Store.
05:36I can go ahead and take a look at Uncle Griff's items, if I want to go into his
05:39Store, I can see his items, and voila!
05:42He's got some pretty need items on here, and I can go ahead and look at one
05:45of his items, and while I'm looking at a listing of an eBay Seller, you'll
05:49always see the Seller information here on the right hand side and I can go
05:53ahead and Save this seller.
05:54So if I click save this seller, it will save the information to my Favorites to
06:00my Bookmarks, in other words.
06:01I can go ahead and Save that seller and they will go into My eBay, under my
06:06Lists, under my Saved sellers.
06:09You'll see here, Marsha Collier, who is also a friend of mine.
06:11Marsha is the author of all of the eBay for dummies books and then you'll see
06:15Uncle Griff now Saved here on my Favorite Sellers.
06:18By Saving Searches and Favorite Sellers or perhaps Competitive Sellers, you'll
06:23sharpen your knowledge of the eBay marketplace.
06:26The theory and knowledge you've accumulated thus far in this course will become
06:30much more clear, as we get into the actual listing in selling process.
06:34And as you become a seasoned eBay Seller, you're going to be making a lot of money.
06:38Have faith, all this hard work will pay off shortly, I promise.

Searching through completed items
00:00Among your most important research tasks when selling on eBay is always being
00:04competitive in terms of price and understanding what keywords other sellers are
00:09using when making their listings.
00:11Additionally, reviewing completed listings that are substantially similar to
00:15your merchandise, will help you see what other sellers offer by way of terms
00:19and conditions, item photographs, describing their items, shipping and handling
00:24and returns policies.
00:26We'll walk through researching completed items now.
00:29This is virtually the same as basic or advanced search, and we're going to go
00:33ahead and look up that same camera I had that Nikon d80 and this time I am just
00:38going to look up camera with the additional word body, because I am only
00:41interested in the camera bodies, and you may recall drilling down on the
00:45left-hand side just to look for Digital Cameras, because I am only interested in
00:49the camera bodies themselves, and not all the extra accessories.
00:53You'll then see these search results in active listings.
00:56Now these are the listings that are currently actively offered on eBay that have not yet sold.
01:01In terms of getting actual comparable pricing, you need to look at completed
01:05listings, because just like as if you're going to be selling a house, you want
01:08to know where the comps were, or the sold houses in your neighborhood.
01:12Well, in the eBay neighborhood, you want to know what the sold listings look
01:15like, so what we're going to do is scroll down the page a little bit, and on the
01:19left-hand side you'll see the Completed Listings option.
01:23Here, we'll check this box and you'll see something different, you'll see color,
01:27anytime you see a green price, that means that item has Sold.
01:32Anytime you see a red price that means that the item has not sold.
01:36So just as you can see in the regular searches, you can filter Auctions only or
01:41Buy it Now, and you can make a comparison between Auctions and Buy it Now to see
01:45how the prices may differ between the two formats.
01:48You can also look over here and see what the comparable items are.
01:51In this case this D90, you'll see here that it has an accessory battery, sold
01:56for a lot more than the average, and I think that's probably because it's not
02:00really a comparable to the body that I'm looking for.
02:02But you'll see here that $500, somewhere between $400 and $500 is about the
02:07average price for the camera body.
02:09So if I go purchase one on eBay, I want to see what the actual selling
02:13prices are, and if you can get an average, you can see around here what the averages are.
02:18So if I was a consumer, I'd be buying one at about somewhere between $369 and
02:22$500, or if I am the seller, I'd probably start my prize at a price of around
02:28$500 or so, because that's really the kind of the sweet spot I can see here.
02:33You can see which items didn't sell and what your price threshold should be in
02:36terms of selling at a reasonable price that's going to get the items sold.
02:41You can also compare keywords, now if you wanted to look at an item that sold
02:45for a good price, you can click on that listing, and you can take a peek of the
02:49keywords that the seller used.
02:51Be sure you don't copy descriptions from another eBay listing, but you can
02:55certainly copy the keywords from the title of another listing, because keywords
02:59in the titles are fine, they are open games so to speak, and you can see what
03:03photographs the person took.
03:04Now as a seller I actually feel that one photograph of the camera really isn't
03:08enough, this seller kind of proved me wrong, because he sold it for a good high
03:11price, but I like to give lots of photos, especially if something's cosmetic
03:16like a camera, so people can see all the different views of that camera body if
03:20I am going to sell it.
03:22You can also see the terms and conditions and the information about the listing here.
03:26This seller is using a catalog from eBay, eBay has catalog systems which pulls
03:31a predescribed information about an item and they use their catalog information
03:35at eBay stores about this camera, and they also added a little bit of custom
03:39text here, contact me if shipping is necessary, and you can see that information there.
03:43And then if you scroll back up, you can see Shipping and payment information as well.
03:47This seller offers Local Pickup, they also have a little indication here as to
03:52what countries and places they'll ship to, if they only allow Local Pickup or
03:56Shipping to the United States, they'll indicate that there.
03:59If they ship internationally, they'll also indicate that there.
04:02This seller offers no returns on the item, and they also accept PayPal.
04:07As a seller, I always offer returns and I usually accept all methods of payment
04:11that are permitted on eBay, including PayPal.
04:14I hope by now you're getting a solid foundation for research on eBay, completed
04:18items are the comparable sales or in some cases, non sales.
04:22that will help you set realistic price points and move the items that you're
04:26interested in selling on the eBay website.

Filtering searches
00:00Now that you've mastered various searches, you can filter them.
00:04The reason to use eBay's filtering tools becomes obvious now.
00:07There is a whole lot of stuff on eBay and I've touched on the Filter tools a
00:11little bit in some of the prior movies.
00:14Finding exactly what you're looking for on a system that generally has a ton of
00:17stuff for every category can be daunting without filters.
00:21Perhaps you want to focus on items close to you, or items within a certain price
00:26range, or even focus on items from specific countries.
00:30There are so many ways to filter and then focus your search to bring a target
00:34to a fewer set of results and find exactly what you're looking for when doing price research.
00:39So let's go ahead and look for something.
00:41I'm going to look up Judith Lieber handbag and we use the singular, because
00:45we're looking for a handbag in the titles.
00:48Now these are really high end handbags, very expensive and actually when I was
00:52in Las Vegas, I would see these for sale for hundreds and thousands of dollars
00:56in the stores there was very expensive.
00:58So you may recall in a prior movie, we talked about how you can use these
01:02filters which are Auctions only, or Buy It Now that's one of the filters.
01:07And we also had Related Searches and these are also considered filters as well,
01:11but on the left-hand side there is all kinds of different filters we can use.
01:16For the handbags category we can filter by Style, Color, and here is Condition.
01:22So if we want to look for Used items we can filter by Used or New and you see
01:27here, some sellers didn't specify if they're used or new.
01:30You might actually want to look at these items, because you can see if the
01:34seller hasn't taken the time to list an item with new or used condition you may
01:39also find that seller has made other errors in their listing.
01:41You might be able to find a great little bargain.
01:44You can also filter by price.
01:46So I'm going to go ahead and take off Condition as a filter and we'll scroll
01:49down through some of the other options here such as Price between 0 and let's
01:54say a $1000 looking for purses from Judith Lieber under a thousand.
01:58There are still quite a few results there under a $1000.
02:01So it's rather popular, yet expensive handbags that you can see there.
02:07And then there are other filters here for things like Material, we've already
02:11search by Brand we don't need to do that.
02:14Then you can also specify things like Top-rated Sellers, eBay has a
02:17top-rated seller program.
02:19Sellers who have achieved the absolute top-level of sales practices on eBay in
02:24terms of feedback and the quality of their listing, so you can sort just out the
02:29137 listings for top-rated sellers.
02:32That's a great way to find the really best of the best sellers that are on there.
02:35I'm going to go ahead and deselect that and we'll keep filtering on
02:39different ways as well.
02:41And let's look at some of the other filters that are here we have a thing called Show only.
02:45Now some sellers offer faster shipping, some sellers offer Returns which
02:49is important to me. I like returns.
02:51I like to be able to return something if I didn't necessarily get what I wanted
02:55and then also Free shipping, we've also talked about Completed listings before.
03:00You can click Choose more and you'll see a whole matrix of different filter
03:04options that you can use in the show only screen preferences.
03:08You can select for different countries, formats, distance, and so forth this is
03:13a way to set some specific preferences.
03:16We can also look for sellers that are only in the US, or we can look for sellers
03:20that sell worldwide.
03:21So maybe only one limit our searches to people selling in United States we can do that.
03:27We can click over here and change the Distance.
03:29So if we want to find sellers who are within a 1000 miles of our zip code, or
03:35let's say 200 miles whatever we can do that too and we can narrow the search
03:39results maybe we need it quickly and we want to ship it from somewhere where
03:42it's going to get to my location very, very fast.
03:45We're going to scroll down a little bit more and look at this option which is
03:48Customize preferences.
03:50So within the actual searches we filtered, but we also can customize these
03:55preferences here and we can save those customized preferences, so that every
03:59time that we search and filter, it will always use the same preferences as well.
04:04If you ever make a mistake, or you do something that you didn't want to do there
04:07is a thing called the Restore defaults option that allows you to kind of set
04:11things back the way they were.
04:12So that you'll go back to the way that you originally they were when you
04:15first registered on eBay.
04:17Then there is a one more feature that I think is interesting and over here on
04:21the very bottom we have the ability to see Matching eBay Stores.
04:25Now eBay Stores are the virtual storefronts that sellers have where they
04:29offer items for sale and we can say that we want to see one of these top
04:34sellers, or we can click here and See all matching eBay Stores that are
04:38selling Judith Lieber purses.
04:40eBay stores offer fixed price listings and you can see all the different stores
04:43that offer Judith Lieber items.
04:45I actually know a couple of these shops and if I was interesting in picking up a
04:49Judith Lieber handbag as a gift for someone special I can click on one of the
04:53sellers, that I recognized and that would be a quick and easy way to do business
04:56with somebody that I really trust.
04:59I'd like to walk you through now doing a search and filtering procedure to show
05:03you the essential nature of this filtering when you're doing searches on eBay.
05:07I'm looking for a cut glass vase as a gift for a very close friend of mine and
05:11I want to find something that I can get fast, because there is a birthday
05:14coming up and it's fast approaching and I need to find something I can purchase
05:18and get on eBay quickly.
05:20So I'll type in the search cut glass vase and I'll go ahead and click Search.
05:25There is way too many results here are 1,267.
05:29So what I want to do is narrow it down a bit I want to find only vintage so
05:33Used, of course that means it's not a brand-new one.
05:36I have a budget so I can only spend up to a $100 so I'm going to filter the
05:40Price and I want to buy from Top-rated sellers.
05:43So sellers who have a really good reputation on eBay are the ones I'm interested
05:46in doing business with so.
05:48I'll filter by top-rated sellers.
05:50And I have to buy it right away I don't have time for an Auction so I'll
05:53filter by Buy It Now only.
05:55Now it's brought my results way down and there are some sellers here that offer
06:00Expedited shipping, and Returns procedures and stuff like that so I could
06:04filter there as well.
06:05But since I'm in a rush, I'm going to go ahead and click US Only.
06:08If a seller doesn't offer returns it doesn't necessarily dissuade me, because
06:12it is an antique site and I probably going to be giving this gift I won't be
06:16seeing it back again.
06:17Then I want to Customize the Distance here so that I can get something
06:21really, really quickly.
06:22I'll go ahead and put in my zip code and say I'm only looking for items that are
06:26within a couple of hundred miles.
06:27That way when it's shipped out it arrives very fast.
06:31So I found three choices with my filtering, and I was able to find
06:34something that I thought was very interesting which is this Decorative
06:37Small Cut Glass Vase.
06:39I can then go ahead and click on the listing and purchase it right away, because
06:42it is a Buy It Now offered by a Top-rated seller on eBay.
06:46If you want to Clear your preferences you can go ahead and click this button
06:49here and that will quickly clear all the preferences that you've made there as well.
06:53Do you see the value of it all?
06:54It's true that you can see the most basic search results on eBay and for
06:59anything that has a small amount of inventory on eBay that works just fine.
07:02As you get into the more popular categories which may have hundreds, or
07:06thousands of listings the ability to filter search results will greatly enhance
07:11your presales research.
07:13I know you've been very patient with this entire process and learning how to
07:17get prepared to sell and now we're going to get into the mechanics of making eBay listings.

4. Selling Basics
Reviewing the competition
00:00There is going to be a lot of competition for most of the items that you will sell on eBay.
00:05It's helpful to separate the real competition from the non-players in the online sales game.
00:11Let's take a moment to review some of the basic tips and tricks for identifying
00:16your competition and making good decisions when you're selling on eBay.
00:20The first thing I want to talk about is authentic and grading services.
00:25When you're selling items that someone might go, hey!
00:27I wonder if this is real or could it be a reproduction?
00:31Well, first of all, you're not allowed to sell fake items on eBay, because that
00:35would not be allowed, it's actually against eBay policy.
00:38So what you would want to do is make sure that your buyers feel 100% confident
00:41that what they're purchasing from you is a real and genuine article.
00:46So you can use a grading service and these grading companies are well reputed
00:50companies that are actually listed on the eBay website, you can find them in the Help System.
00:56You can go through and use grading services for things like when I sell coins for example.
01:00I use grading services such as NGC or PCGS.
01:04If you're selling comics, you can use CGC grading, that's a company that grades
01:08comic books, and for jewelry, you might want to consider using IGI, there's a
01:13lot of different grading services for different industries, and depending on
01:17what you're selling, you will look at the different kinds of grading services
01:20and consider using them when you're making a listing.
01:23It may take a little bit of time to get an item graded, like it takes about six
01:27weeks for me to get a coin graded, because there is a big backlog of coins to be
01:31graded at PCGS or NGC.
01:34So it takes a little bit of time for them to go ahead and do the grading.
01:38Let's go ahead and talk about misspellings.
01:40Now, when you're looking at your competition, a lot of competitors will make
01:44errors, and these errors work to your advantage, we've talked a little bit about
01:48it in a prior movie how you can pick up bargains, and then resell for a big
01:52profit when you're finding items with misspelled title.
01:55So keywords in the title are very important, and here's an example of a search
02:00that I did for the word diamond, which is misspelled here, Dimond, and I found
02:06quite a few listings with the misspelling of diamond.
02:08I think in some cases sellers are putting the word diamond, this spelling,
02:12because it's not a genuine diamond, but in many cases folks are just making
02:16errors and when you look through the listings, you will see that some genuine
02:20diamond jewelry is listed with the misspellings, and these items have no bids.
02:25In many cases, you'll find that real gold and diamond jewelry is misidentified
02:30on the eBay's site, and you can pick those up for a real bargain and turn
02:34around and resell them.
02:35So that's another way to evaluate your competition and see how people are making
02:39errors in their listings.
02:41Let's take a look at the next thing I'd like to talk about which is good policies.
02:46Good policies aren't just specifically one thing or another thing.
02:50good policies are an attitude, an attitude towards your customer.
02:54In this listing, you can see that this particular listing offers an
02:58unconditional no risk money back guarantee, and if you're not completely
03:02delighted, you can return that item with no questions asked within seven days of receipt.
03:06Now, I've seen listings on eBay where the seller goes, you can't return this and
03:12only if there is a gross misrepresentation may you return the item.
03:15I mean you see these very negative listings, and you wonder how those people
03:19expect to sell anything at all, and it's very good to treat your customer with
03:23respect and give them a terrific returns policy, so they feel confident that
03:28they're buying from someone who is legitimate, and a great seller.
03:32Let's talk about overnight shipping.
03:34Sometimes you need something quickly and consumers like to be able to get stuff
03:38fast, especially essential items such as car parts.
03:42If you're selling something that's a luxury item that the buyer doesn't need
03:46right away, there is not really a need to offer overnight shipping unless you're
03:49at Christmas time maybe, when gifts are being given and people want to buy
03:53things at the last minute.
03:54But, for essential parts and things like that for cars or parts for other
03:59mechanical items or things that are core business needs, or things of that
04:03nature, you can offer overnight shipping to your customer and these overnight
04:08shipping services make it easier to sell more merchandise, because you'll be
04:12able to tap into that consumer that's got an emergency need.
04:16So let's take a look at this listing where this seller has not only offered an
04:20economy shipping option, but is also offering one day shipping which allows you
04:24to get it the next day.
04:25Well, that's great for someone who needs it right away.
04:28They will pay a little bit more, $30 more, and they can get it instantly.
04:31Then, the other option is Local Pickup.
04:33So let's say I'm in the area, and I'm actually in Glendale, California,
04:37you'll see that this seller is in Glendale near my home in Burbank, and I can
04:41go pick that headlight up.
04:43I don't need to even wait for shipping because they offer local pickup.
04:46Offering local pickup really is a great customer service tool and if
04:50you're willing to do it, you'll tap into even more buyers who can purchase your merchandise.
04:55So let's take a look at same day shipping.
04:58Now, this is one step forward of expedited shipping, so not only can you get it
05:03really, really fast, let's say with overnight shipping, but you can also have
05:06the option of same day shipping.
05:08If you tell someone, hey!
05:09If you buy it today, I'll ship it today.
05:12That's a great, great plus, especially in this case where you see my keyboard
05:16went out of my computer and I needed this keyboard right away, this particular
05:20seller offers free expedited shipping the same day.
05:24So since I am in Burbank and this seller is in Los Angeles, effectively, I will
05:28get it the next day at no cost, there's no charge for next day shipping,
05:33because in my community, if somebody ships a package to me in LA, I'll get it the next day.
05:38So that's a great plus for your buyers and offering the same-day shipping is a
05:43great selling tool and it will help improve your sales tremendously.
05:48So let's look at Local Pickup and we talked about Local Pickup just a second ago
05:52but let's take it one step further.
05:53Let's say you have a piece of big equipment.
05:56I have a hotel and I actually purchased a Manitowoc Ice Machine recently and in
06:01order to purchase that ice machine, I needed a seller who was close to me,
06:06because I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for freight, because freight
06:09across the country might be almost as much as the icemaker, but in fact, freight
06:13just across town isn't really that expensive.
06:16I could actually hire a truck for few $100, and I could have the ice
06:18machine right away.
06:20So what I did was I put in a search in eBay for any of these Manitowoc Ice
06:24Machines that were within my community, 75 miles of my ZIP code.
06:29That's a great way to go ahead and as a seller, offer your buyer a fast and
06:34efficient way to get their item and allow them to just pick it up from you or if
06:38they wanted to go ahead and have it trucked over or use a delivery service, it
06:43wouldn't be that expensive for them to do that, and when you're offering Local
06:46Pickup that the buyer can choose, who gets to pick up the item instead of using
06:50your freight company.
06:51Let's look at some pictures.
06:53Now, pictures are really important, and yes, a picture says a thousand words
06:58when you're listing items on eBay like this keyword search I made for Persian
07:01rugs between $1000 and $100,000, you'll see there are a lot of pictures on here
07:07that are really well taken and some that aren't so great.
07:09But the ones that are really well taken will get your attention.
07:12You can see these sellers that have nice photos that they've gone out of their
07:16way to make sure that the photographs are eye-popping and colorful, are going to
07:20get a better result than somebody who has perhaps a duller photo that isn't
07:25quite as exciting and eye-popping.
07:27So as a seller, make sure that you're putting your best foot forward, make sure
07:30that you're giving visually positive energy and that you're showing the buyer
07:35the best possible attributes of the item that you're selling.
07:39So let's take a look over here at some other aspects of good practices and
07:44reviewing your competition as well. Evaluations.
07:47I am looking for let's say a Hobart Mixer, and I am a commercial kitchen and I
07:51want to buy some big equipment.
07:53What I want you to do is, think about this.
07:55Don't undervalue what you're selling, especially when you're using fixed price listings.
08:00Make sure that you're providing your buyer with value, you're not overpricing
08:04it, but don't undercut yourself, because what happens is the low-price leaders,
08:09the people that sell things cheap usually leave money on the table.
08:12If you're a commercial kitchen, and you're buying a mixer, you're going to
08:15probably need the mixer, and you're going to want to buy it from a seller who is
08:18reputable, and has taken the time to give value and how you can give value is
08:23good descriptions, and clear condition information, and tell your buyer how many
08:28years this has been in service, how much use it's gotten, versus trying to give
08:32them the absolute lowest price possible, and here's an example.
08:35We see over here a Hobart Mixer that went on auction and got 52 bids for $6,600
08:41with $450 in shipping, and that mixer is sold for a really good price.
08:46You can see green means it's sold.
08:48If we continue to go down a little bit, we'll see some other sales, and I want
08:52to show you a specific one here that got one bid, and it was pickup only.
08:56You can see that by offering Local Pickup, the buyer probably was local to that seller.
09:02The seller got a lot less money, a whole lot less money.
09:04Now, it's true that the prior mixer that I showed you had a lot more
09:07accessories, but certainly not enough accessories to change the value by
09:12thousands of dollars.
09:13What really was important to the buyer was value, what value did the seller offer?
09:18The seller offered shipping.
09:20The seller didn't personally deliver the mixer, but the seller took the time to
09:24offer palletizing and shipping for $450.
09:26Now, I happen to know I could ship that mixer across the country for about
09:31$200, so the other $200 is probably for putting it on a pallet and packing it
09:36and getting it ready.
09:37So those are the kinds of values you can offer to your buyers.
09:40Let's talk about positive energy.
09:42I see a lot of sellers who just really don't understand retailing and probably
09:46they should reevaluate their listings.
09:49You can see that some sellers are just very negative.
09:52Here is a listing where the seller has made a comment in the description of the
09:56listing, where photographs taken rule over any mistake in the description.
10:00If there's a discrepancy, and you don't bring it to our attention, there's no agreement.
10:03I think that's really bad business.
10:05You should be very positive with your customers, and make sure that you're
10:09talking to them with respect and with positive energy, so that they're not
10:12turned off by what you're saying.
10:15You will come across all types of competition on eBay, from top sellers to
10:19someone listing a few items at home.
10:21Act as if you're a buyer when reviewing the competition.
10:25What would you like to see, what turns you off when you read someone's listing,
10:29is the listing clear and concise, or vague and confusing, is it too wordy, is
10:34there too much fluff and not enough facts about the product, does their offer
10:38sound too good to be true and does it create skepticism?
10:41Because each eBay listing is a handcrafted moment generated by an individual,
10:46there are so many ways to present yourself.
10:49I suggest the straightforward and concise approach to making eBay listings and
10:53keeping things as factual, and simple as possible with a smattering of
10:57enthusiasm and a dash of salesmanship.

Choosing a selling format and listing strategy
00:00Selecting a selling format on eBay is quite important to the success of your listing.
00:05Certain item such as collectibles really lend themselves to the Auction style format,
00:10while commodities such as new electronics would be more appropriately sold at a fixed price.
00:15Auction style listings sold to the highest bidder and can add additional
00:19selling options such as Buy It Now and Best Offer.
00:22Buy It Now is a fixed-price option added to the auction.
00:26Best Offer allows buyers to enter their proposed price they wish to pay.
00:30You can reject it or you can accept it.
00:33Durations for Auction style listings are one, three, five, seven, or ten days,
00:38and for real estate transactions can be up to 30 days.
00:41There is a fee for listing called the insertion fee, as well as a commission to
00:45eBay when the item sells, which is called the final value fee.
00:49Fixed Price listing sets a fixed price, so that the buyers can purchase right
00:52away with no bidding.
00:53There is an optional best offer feature that can be added, so the buyers can
00:57negotiate at different lower price with you.
01:00Durations available are three, five, seven, ten, or 30 days, or Good til Cancel,
01:05which means the listings stays on eBay until it's sold or ended by you.
01:10There is an insertion fee for listing and a final value fee when your item sells.
01:15Classified ads, just like it sounds, allows you to advertise merchandise without
01:19actually allowing someone to bid or buy online.
01:22Generally, you ask them to email you or call you for more details and to
01:25discuss terms of the sale.
01:27Most run 30 days with the option of Good to a Cancel with the latter having a fee every 30 days.
01:32Real estate classifieds can run one, three, five, seven, ten, thirty, or ninety days.
01:39The fees vary by category.
01:41eBay Motors national listing service is used when you wish to advertise a car
01:45for sale nationally.
01:47Presuming the buyer will have the car shipped or they'll come pick it up.
01:50Durations are three, five, seven, or ten days.
01:53They're free to list, and a final value fee applies when the car sells.
01:57eBay Motors Local Classified Ads are used to advertise a car within 200 miles of your location.
02:03It's a great choice for older, less valuable vehicles, since the shipping can
02:08discourage buyers on those cars.
02:10Duration is seven days and the first six listings are free, and then their fees
02:15for listing depending on how many cars you list each year.
02:18There are more listing options for car dealers, but we won't go into them in
02:21this particular course.
02:22Auction Style, Fixed Price and Motors National Listings give you full access to
02:27eBay's feedback system and transaction resolution services.
02:32Classified Ads and eBay Motors Local Listings do not offer these services,
02:36and are more or like running a local classified advertisement in a virtual newspaper.
02:40Here are some great tips for your selling success.
02:44I also suggest from my perspective that you use eBay auction style listings when
02:48you're selling something that has a variable value or is a highly collectible
02:53and rare item or is the latest and greatest hot commodity.
02:57I don't suggest using Buy It Now on auctions, or it's really not an option at
03:00all to me in my opinion.
03:02When I used Fixed Price listings, I generally focus on things that I can put a
03:06true value on ahead of time based upon my research.
03:09I would focus on that format when selling that type of merchandise.
03:13Items that are not rare and where there is a lot of other competition,
03:16I generally always stick to fixed price.
03:18I strongly encourage you to use Best Offer on your Fixed Price listing, so that
03:22buyers can make offers and negotiate prices with you.
03:25That's what many people are expecting to do, haggle on the things that they want.

Understanding the fees for various types of listings
00:00As you can imagine, using eBay and PayPal isn't free.
00:04The fees that you're going to pay will vary based upon the type of merchandise
00:08that you're listing, and the listing format.
00:10Since eBay and PayPal fees may change from time to time, we'll talk
00:14generally about how they work and where to find the latest fee information for both websites.
00:19Your volume on eBay and PayPal will also determine what discounts might
00:23be available to you.
00:25On the eBay's site, you can find out about fee information by going to the
00:28Customer Support link here at the top in the right-hand side of the page.
00:32You can click on Customer Support here and then type in the search box a simple question.
00:37When you click Search, you'll be presented with a list of topics.
00:41Here, the computer figured out that the question related to fees for selling on eBay.
00:45There is also an optional link here for fees for selling on eBay stores, and
00:49Related help over here on the right- hand side is presented, so that you can
00:53click over directly to a specific topic.
00:56I am going to go ahead and click on this one right here for fees for selling on
00:59eBay and I'll be presented with some additional information that explains how
01:03the different fees work for listing on eBay.
01:06There are two main fees.
01:07a fee for starting an item listing, which is called the insertion fee and a fee
01:12for having a successful sale or transaction which is called the final value fee.
01:17If you want to get more detailed help, you can click on Related help and click
01:20the link that's appropriate and you will be taken to the Help page for eBay for
01:24that topic, which is fees.
01:26When I scroll down here, the first section we are going to talk about is the insertion fee.
01:31If you're listing an auction style listing, and they call it auction style,
01:34because a true auction happens in person.
01:37You'll see that the fee for listing an auction style format would be free for
01:41the first 50 items per month.
01:43After that, you'll pay an insertion fee.
01:45So for a small seller, someone at home, you can go ahead and do eBay auctions
01:49for free with no risk, unless it actually sells, you won't pay a dime.
01:53Then, you'll see over here a schedule of fees that you'll be able to go
01:57through, which is based on the starting price as low as a penny, you'll pay
02:00$00.10 and if it goes up to $200 or more, the insertion fee would be $2.The
02:06final value fee or the success fee for selling a successful listing on auction
02:12style listings is 9% up to $100 charge.
02:15So let's say you sold something for $1 million, you would never pay more than
02:19$100 success fee for listing that million dollar item.
02:24Now there is a fixed price insertion fee.
02:26So if you're listing an item at a fixed price, which is not the same as an
02:29auction, you're setting a price, it's a standard price that you're going to take
02:33for that item, and anybody can purchase it.
02:35Now, if you list an item at fixed price, but you do not have an eBay store, it's
02:40$00.50 to list that item for $00.99 or more.
02:43Then there is a commission or a final value fee for fixed price items.
02:47Rather than me explain each of the fees, you can see a schedule of fees here,
02:51which you'll be able to find through the same Help file that I found, and you
02:55can see that based on the different categories of electronics, clothing, shoes
02:59and accessories, media or all other categories, they all have separate kinds
03:03of final value fees.
03:04There is also Business & Industrial equipment.
03:07so if you're a farmer, and you have a big combine you want to sell on eBay,
03:10which literally I have seen people sell combines on eBay.
03:15Then, there is a $20 insertion fee, a $ 5 fee for putting a reserve, that's a
03:19secret holdback number that prevents it from selling for too low of a price, and
03:24then a 1% final value fee up to $250.
03:28So if you're selling a really expensive combine, you'll never pay more than 1%
03:32or $250, whichever is lower.
03:35So I am going to go ahead and scroll through some additional option feature fees
03:39that are available on eBay, and if you are putting a reserve on an auction or
03:43you don't want an item to sell for more than a specific price at auction, there
03:47is a thing called a reserve price, and a reserve is a secret holdback number
03:50that only you and eBay know, and you can use that to protect your investment.
03:55So reserve price fee is $2 up to $199. 99 or for $200 or more, it's 1% of the
04:02reserve price with a maximum charge of $50.
04:05Seems a little confusing, but you'll get the hang of it.
04:08The Buy it Now fees are for when you're adding a listing Buy it Now option.
04:12A Buy It Now option is the fixed price that you put on an auction listing format.
04:17So if you have an auction, and you also want to offer your buyer a fixed price
04:21option that they can just purchase that item at a fixed rate, then the Buy it
04:25Now fee is based on what that fixed-price would be.
04:28So if your fixed price is $200, it would be $00.25, if it was only $9, it would
04:32be $00.5, based on the schedule you see here.
04:36There are other options that you can use such as this whole feature pack.
04:40There are other listing upgrades that you can add to your eBay listing and there
04:44are fees associated with those options, and there are also additional things
04:48that you can do with your listing, such as adding more photos.
04:51So if you wanted to add additional photos, there are fees for that, you do
04:55get some free pictures, but when you've added additional pictures, there's a fee charge of 15%.
05:01And if you're using any of eBay's selling tools, such as Selling Manager Pro or
05:04Blackthorne, there is a monthly fee for using those services as well.
05:09Anything you want to know about fees can be found on the eBay's site and you'll
05:12be able to find it through that link there.
05:14There's also lots of different websites out there that help you understand the
05:19fees on eBay, and make it really simple to get your fees figured out.
05:24I have nothing to do with this website whatsoever, I don't own this website, but
05:28I thought it was a really neat cool website by a guy by the name of Ryan Olbe
05:32who came up with this cool way of just punching in the information about your
05:36auction or your listing and you could find out exactly what it would cost and
05:40how much profit you would make on your item.
05:42When you put in all the information about your seller account and the listing,
05:46you can look at all the fees that will be charged to you by eBay using one of
05:50these handy tools, and also Ryan provides a fee breakdown.
05:53So he gives you the additional information about what the fees would be if
05:57you sold at auction or fixed-price listing based on the prices that you enter in here.
06:01You can change this information, and type in different values, and it'll
06:05automatically change the fees for you.
06:07This is a totally free website.
06:08It's there for you if you ever need it, and you can find lots of sites like this
06:12that help you understand the fees that are charged to you on eBay.
06:16Now, let's talk a little bit about PayPal fees.
06:19So if you want to go ahead and use the PayPal website, you will need to pay a fee for that.
06:24Now, at the bottom of every page, you'll see a little link here that says Fees,
06:29and if you click that link, you'll be taken to a Fees page that talks to you
06:32about what it costs to receive payments on PayPal.
06:36Paying for purchases is always free to the buyer, but for the seller, there will
06:40be a fee for receiving the money.
06:42You can also send personal payments to your kids or your family members and
06:46person-to-person transfers or no cost.
06:49It's always free when the money comes from your bank account or your PayPal
06:53balance, but if you use a debit or credit card, you will also be charged a fee as well.
06:57For commercial users of PayPal, people selling things on the PayPal's site,
07:01there's no monthly fee and no setup fee, there is no gateway fees like some of
07:05the credit card merchant processors, but you do pay a fee for receiving the
07:08funds, which is 2.9% plus $00.30 per transaction, with the fee going down
07:14depending on your volume and you can see here that as your volume increases on a
07:18monthly basis, the fees go down.
07:20If you're doing business overseas and you're receiving money from somebody who's
07:24in another country, there is a cross- border payment schedule that shows you what
07:29it cost to receive money from other countries.
07:31There is a little bit higher fee when you're receiving money from a overseas
07:36buyer, so you'll see that there's a additional charge for that, and the fees are
07:39a little bit higher for PayPal and here's the schedule of those fees.
07:43PayPal has one little secret option which they don't really advertise much,
07:47but if you're a seller doing a lot of volume and small payments, we call those micro-payments.
07:53You can find out about PayPal's micro- payment service, which is only 5% plus
07:57$00.5 per transaction.
07:59It's highly reduced for people that are doing large, large amounts of
08:03small, small payments.
08:04That's something to think about as well.
08:06So for every item that you list and sell on eBay with the exception of your
08:10first 50 auction style listings, you'll pay a nominal fee for listing called the insertion fee.
08:16Then, if the item sells, in most cases, you'll pay another fee called the final value fee.
08:21For virtually all your orders you'll be accepting PayPal as the method of
08:25payment, because it's easy and convenient.
08:28And in that case, you'll pay the PayPal fee too.
08:31It does sound like a lot of fees, but in reality, eBay is a virtual
08:35storefront for your business.
08:37And since you won't be paying any high rents, think of the fees as the cost of
08:41your online real estate, and think of the PayPal fees very similarly to having a
08:46bank merchant processing service.
08:48It's the same way when you're accepting a credit card at your retail store, or
08:51your other businesses.
08:53So there are bank fees there too and PayPal is similar to that.
08:57All this is pretty normal for someone in business, and it's the cost of doing
09:00business for your online store.

Using photography best practices
00:00Good photography is an eBay seller's essential calling card.
00:04The adage that a picture is worth of thousand words rings true for most
00:08categories and merchandise you sell on eBay.
00:11If you sell new unopened merchandise and the item is a commodity that
00:14everybody knows, the photos are less essential than if you are selling an antique crystal vase.
00:20Some important things to remember are that you cannot simply borrow photos from
00:23other eBay sellers, websites, by retailers, manufacturers or anyone else for
00:29that matter without getting their consent.
00:32eBay has some sophisticated software for cashing photo borrowers, so it's highly
00:36recommend that you take your own photos and you work on being the best
00:39photographer possible.
00:40When using eBay's picture hosting service it's important to have a clear
00:45picture, but the photos don't have to be huge.
00:48With the capabilities of today's cameras you may find it helpful to reduce the
00:52output file size to 1024X768 pixels.
00:56Larger is okay, but eBay will eventually end-up reducing the file size, so it
01:02will be unnecessary to use all that displays and larger photos means it will
01:06take longer to upload.
01:08Read your camera's manual to learn how to change these settings because you will
01:11get more pictures on your digital media card and transferring and uploading
01:15photos will go a lot faster.
01:18Use good ambient diffused lighting without a lot of harsh reflections. Avoid the
01:22use of built-in flash.
01:24It will make the photos look odd and it will also cast a harsh shadow on them,
01:28and it may reflect off shiny items.
01:31Use a background that's clean and has good contrast with the item. Glassware is
01:36one of the hardest so you will have to experiment to get the best photos.
01:40Avoid clutter or items that are not been sold in the listing when
01:43taking photographs.
01:44Photograph only what you will be selling.
01:47Keep close on the item so you don't have to do much by way of cropping
01:50or editing if at all.
01:52Editing can be very tine consuming and it can be a real chore for you
01:55after taking a photo.
01:57Be sure to take multiple photos when it seems important and remember buyers are
02:01looking to get a virtual feel or a tour of what they are buying.
02:05Photograph all damaged, scratches or issues that you might find on the item.
02:09Show scale when the item calls for it, using a ruler or something that
02:14provide prospective.
02:15There are mid-level lighting kits also that are inexpensive and designed for the
02:19small eBay seller in mind.
02:20They have a back drop, lights and often include a tri-pod.
02:24I generally don't use a tri-pod because I find it easier to take my photos free-hand
02:28holding the camera, but it can come in handy when you need to a stable
02:31way to hold the camera, if you are not comfortable, for getting the best shot.
02:35You can actually find kits like this on eBay for roughly $50 to $100.
02:40Once your business gets into high gear, you might want to consider a
02:43lighting kit and a camera that can trigger an external flash, but that's
02:46only if you really need to.
02:48Most new cameras take great pictures even in low light.
02:51Unlike a built-in flash a good set of professional lights can be beneficial in a
02:56high production photography environment.
02:59As I mentioned, avoid using the built- in flash. It's for too harsh for this
03:03type of photography and it does not have the soft light of a professional lighting kit.
03:08So whenever possible turn it off.
03:10If you have an older camera you might want to invest in a nice new cheaper one.
03:15A new camera under $100 these days has incredibly sophisticated capabilities and
03:20it can take awesome pictures.
03:22Try them before you buy them. Some brands are better than others.
03:25You can use a scanner for flat items such as magazines, prints, flat artworks
03:30and so forth, and be sure to take sometime to review the best of the best
03:34photos, but don't be too hard in yourself when taking pictures.
03:37Buyers do realize that not every seller is a professional photographer and
03:41therefore won't be expecting amazing photos. As long as you have the right
03:45number of pictures for what you're selling with clear shots of any flaws or
03:48issues, your buyers will trust you and make the purchase.
03:52You don't need a photography class. Just start taking pictures and learn how to
03:55get the best shots through regular practice.

Thinking through the shipping process
00:00We are getting close to the actual process of listing an item.
00:03But before we dive deeper into making listings, it's important to ask a few
00:07questions about shipping your product after you sell it.
00:10You want to make sure that the item can be safely delivered to the buyer.
00:13Bulky items can be listed for local pickup.
00:16eBay offers shipping through UPS and the United States Postal service and that
00:21can be paid for and printed through PayPal.
00:23You will also want to consider what packing supplies you might need and locate a
00:27place nearby that offers good deals on tape, boxes, foam peanuts cushioning,
00:32bubble wrap and those plastic pouches to put on the outside of the box that you
00:36put the shipping label in, because you will most likely be printing your labels
00:40off of eBay and they will be on plain paper.
00:42If you have a shredder and use a lot of paper, you might want to consider saving
00:46bags of shredded paper to you use as packing and cushioning for your items,
00:50but only for items that won't break easily.
00:52At home you can start saving things like egg cartons or any packing materials
00:56for items you have received previously, and boxes if they are in very good
00:59condition and they don't look too beat up or ugly, and you you'll appreciate
01:03having these items later.
01:05The Unites States Postal Service offers free boxes for priority and express mail.
01:10And local recycling standards often have foam peanuts and recycled bubble wrap,
01:14so you might want to check with them for any free supplies that you might be
01:17able to acquire to save money.
01:19Newsprint is generally not a very good idea because it pollutes the item
01:23and gets things dirty.
01:24You will want to find your nearest UPS stores so that you know where to drop-off
01:28UPS parcels when they are ready to send.
01:30You can also go to usps.com and learn how the United States Postal Service
01:34pickup program works, or you can always drop off USPS boxes at the post office.
01:39We will be talking about packing items safely later in the course, but for now
01:43we will have you start thinking about what's going to be going on and what's
01:47involved in packing and shipping.
01:48Sometimes when something is new and you are new to eBay it's easy to get exited
01:53and forget about the shipping process.

Writing effective titles and descriptions
00:01Writing compelling eBay titles and descriptions is not only critical to the
00:05success of your eBay listing, but it also involves some practice and study, so
00:09that you get it right and you attract the right buyers.
00:13It's not like riding a classified ad, because the title uses keywords instead of phrases.
00:18So words like, look or amazing or wow or incredible or gorgeous, those are
00:26rarely search terms on eBay and the system has a search engine to help buyers
00:30find the merchandise that matches the keywords they will be searching.
00:33So you will have to put yourself in the shoes of the buyer and think of the
00:37keywords they might use to find your listing.
00:39Let's walk through a couple of the different keywords that I feel are not a good
00:43use of your titles in terms of real estate space on eBay, and people put look
00:49and there's over 91,000 individual listings with the keywords look in there.
00:54Folks use the word amazing a lot in titles, which over 112,000 listings have the word amazing.
01:01There is wow in 142,000 plus listings.
01:05Incredible, gorgeous, these keywords are not going to be the best use of your
01:10titles, because it's not very likely that a buyer is going to search these terms
01:15when they're looking for an emerald necklace.
01:17They're more likely to type in word emerald and necklace.
01:21So those are very important things to keep in mind.
01:23Titles are limited to 80 characters.
01:25In the past, eBay only allowed 55, but now it's bigger.
01:29So you want to include as many relevant keywords in that title pertaining to the
01:33products, such as the name of the item.
01:35So let's take a look here and you'll see that in this listing the brand name was
01:39included and the style and the color.
01:41There are all kinds of good keywords in this listing for a brand name Lamb,
01:45which is a brand, a Lamb handbag or tote.
01:48You will see the different variations were used on the word handbag, Tote Bag Handbag.
01:53These are all good uses of keywords.
01:55Be sure to include not only the name of the item, but the brand name, the
01:59designer if applicable, any color information.
02:02If it's a book, a record, CD, or video, be sure to include the title.
02:07If it's a book, you want to also put in the author's name, because there's a
02:10lot of room in there.
02:11Now you can go ahead and put in the author's name.
02:13The pattern or style, and any other keywords relevant to the items, such as New
02:18or so more common terms such as NIB.
02:20So let's take a look at some of those searches for an NIB or MIB.
02:25You will notice I used a special search with the parentheses around it and a comma.
02:29That's a list of search terms I am searching all at once.
02:32That's one of the Advanced Searches that we talked about earlier, but when you
02:35use these NIB or MIB that means Mint in Box or New in Box.
02:39So MIB is Mint in Box and NIB New in Box.
02:42There are other acronyms that people may use that are common to the eBay community.
02:47But one thing you can't do is spam people with keywords.
02:52Keywords that are unrelated to your item or brand names of other products.
02:55This is considered keyword spamming and is prohibited on eBay.
02:59I've given you some examples here of keyword spamming.
03:02If you were to be selling a Gibson Custom ES-335 guitar, you couldn't put the
03:07word Not Stratocaster in the titles.
03:09You can't use those words.
03:10If you're selling Sterling Necklace, you can't say not Not Tiffany, because
03:13you're basically taking way from Tiffany's brand and you are using their name to
03:16sell product that's not Tiffany brand-name.
03:19If you were selling ACME 17" Widescreen Laptop, you couldn't use the words
03:24Toshiba or Sony or Dell, if that's not the brand that you're selling. So be carefully.
03:28Make sure that you're only using keywords relevant to the item that you're selling.
03:32There are some exceptions to this.
03:33You can actually use brand names if you're selling compatible items.
03:36So for example if I've had an iPod or an iPad or iPhone or Universal
03:40Compatible Charger, I could definitely have used those keywords, those brand names in my title.
03:45If I was a seller of Xerox Replacement Toner Cartridges for Work Center
03:49Machines, I could go ahead and use the Xerox name as long as it was clear that
03:53they were generical replacement toners or there are some unusual exceptions such
03:57as using the word Tiffany-Style Lamp.
03:59That's just a very common and acceptable use on eBay as well.
04:03Now mastering titles involves reading over successful completed listings and
04:07seeing the highest selling prices and reviewing the keywords used by other
04:12sellers and capturing them for your own listing.
04:14It is okay to copy titles, but eBay does not allow you to copy someone else's
04:19description or photographs.
04:22So if you're going to sell something for really high price and you can see here
04:25that certain types of merchandise are very popular items, such as iPads here.
04:29Items such as iPads are more likely to get high bids if you fill the titles with
04:34a lot of great keywords.
04:36You can see here a listing for a lot of nine iPads sold for $8,820.
04:41So it is possible to sell high-priced merchandise and get those items out the
04:45door if you're chalking your titles full of excellent relevant keywords and
04:50capturing them as part of your listings.
04:52The description is very, very important, as well, and let's talk
04:55about descriptions.
04:56And making your description better and making your description perform so to
05:00speak, is something that you'll develop as a talent over time.
05:03You want to grab the buyer with a fantastic title, but you also want to lull
05:07them with your knowledge of what you're selling.
05:09You want to have a straightforward style and a positive attitude, all of which
05:13will be conveyed in your listing.
05:14Tell us about the item briefly, avoid being long-winded or you might lose the
05:18buyer's interest, discuss the material, what is made out of, talk about the
05:22condition, is it broken or there are chips cracks or is it mint condition, tell
05:27us who made the item and why that's important, describe that condition in more
05:31detail, so you can use photographs if you want to and you can provide much more
05:35granular information by using close-up shots and macro photos they call them.
05:40Give dimensions how big is it, you don't wanted someone disappointed, because
05:43that necklace is a lot smaller or maybe even too big, than the picture didn't
05:47really give a good idea of the size.
05:50Mention any notable features or markings, what accessories come with it, does it
05:54include a battery and a charger or is that not part of the listing, is
05:58everything that you've photographed actually mentioned in the description, is
06:02there anything in the photograph not included in the sale, is there any history
06:06or provenance about the items, as with the collectible item?
06:09Maybe there is some backstory there or some famous person was involved
06:13somehow with the item.
06:14How may that item be used, talk about your value proposition and if you're
06:19saving the buyer money in any way at all, maybe free shipping, that's one way
06:23you can kind of hook people in with a value proposition.
06:26Sometimes people want to learn a little bit more about an item through
06:29detailed information.
06:30Here is an example of catalog.
06:32In this particular Mario Super Brothers DS Game, you'll see that the seller has
06:37provided eBay catalog item information.
06:40What does that mean?
06:41That means when that listing was made, eBay has a catalog that provides all this
06:45detailed information that you can select and show to your buyers.
06:49In addition to that the seller has provided specific information about this one
06:54game, which is its factory sealed, and they want to make you aware, New, New,
06:57News that they put it three times. One little thing.
07:00there's a hiccup here, which is you have broken images.
07:03Now if you're hosting your own images on your own computer server or you're
07:07using a hosting service, make sure the images are actually showing up in the listing.
07:10This particular listing you'll see the images aren't showing up, and then the
07:14seller has provided some detailed product information as well, which is good,
07:17because you are not just relying on the stock descriptions, you're also telling
07:20me about the specific item that I'm purchasing.
07:23Here is a New Orion SkyQuest Telescope and in this particular seller's listing
07:27there are providing a lot of very detailed information, because it's a highly
07:31technical product and it probably has an audience that's really well-informed
07:35about what they're buying.
07:36They're very intelligent.
07:37They know what the telescope is about.
07:39So they want to make sure that the seller is also equally knowledgeable.
07:42You can see here there are some boasts in the listing such as the telescope has
07:46in all which is a little bit boastful, but it's not a bad idea to have some
07:50salesmanship when you're listing an item and showing it to your buyer.
07:53Talking about collectibles a little bit more detail.
07:55Whenever you know something about an item and you can discuss in detail where it
08:00came from that's always helpful.
08:02Here is a 1930s bangle, it's kind of a bracelet, and because it's a little bit
08:06older and rare, it's important to tell the buyer why are they wanting to buy
08:10this, what are they getting themselves into?
08:11Well, in this particular case, it has some famous background.
08:15It comes from an estate of someone who worked in Hollywood in a Hollywood
08:18industry as a sound mixer.
08:19So that might be information that the buyer cares about and they might
08:22be interested in it.
08:23Also, if you look over here at the photographs and you actually zoom in and look
08:27at the photographs, you will see that some additional information has been
08:30provided about the patent that surrounds this to show the provenance and to show
08:35the background of how old it is to guarantee to the buyer that yeah, this is
08:39really an old item and you can prove it with the patent.
08:42You can see that with the additional patent information that was provided on the listing.
08:45So, even drawings of that patent are provided on eBay listing itself.
08:49A great comprehension of eBay system and how to write fantastic titles and
08:53descriptions will translate into more dollars in your pocket.
08:57I realize not everyone is a fantastic author, and you don't have to be.
09:01Just be faithful and honest in your listings and provide information about
09:05what's important to the buyer and that's all you need to get great results.
09:08Just put yourself in the buyer's shoes and consider what would be important to
09:12you as a buyer if you were purchasing something from someone else online?
09:15Be sure to include those details in your listing and what would matter to you most.

Understanding warranties and guarantees
00:00You've heard the terms guaranteed or warranteed many times in your life that
00:04I'm pretty sure about.
00:05And you can effectively use warranties and guarantees in your eBay listings.
00:09Let's talk about how that would best work and when to use them.
00:12First we're going to go to Customer Support and then we'll go ahead and type in
00:16the search term warranty.
00:21You'll notice that eBay can't find that search term in the general help
00:25system, but there's Related Help over here and you can find out information
00:28about their Warranties Policy.
00:30A warranty is the assurance that something about your items is going to work.
00:34Some warranties cover the entire purchase and others only covers some things
00:38such as parts and labor.
00:39For instance, a warranty may offer to replace or fix a product, but it won't pay
00:44you for the loss of income such as if your car breaks down and you can't get to
00:47work and you lose wages.
00:49Typically, these are offered by manufacturers or third-party warranty companies
00:54such as an extended warranty.
00:56A guarantee on the other hand is a promise or an assurance that something offers
01:00a special quality or benefit.
01:02And that quality or benefit is assuring that it will perform satisfactorily for
01:07a specific amount of time, such as the money back guarantee.
01:10EBay's official partner for third-party warranties is the company N.E.W and you
01:16can find them at this website.
01:18N.E.W provides a third party warranty to the buyer of your item and it can be
01:23purchased for an additional cost online for noncommercial use for things like
01:27computers, consumer-electronics, photography equipment and musical instruments.
01:32There is help pages on eBay that talk about these buyer warranty services and
01:37explain the benefits to the buyers so that they understand that these are
01:40officially sanctioned and recommended services that are offered through the
01:44partner N.E.W. There is also a chart here that helps the buyer understand the
01:48fees that would be associated with purchasing one of these additional warrantees
01:52through N.E.W.N.E.W warranties are valid for new, used and refurbished items
01:58under five years of age and can be added to the listing or purchased after the
02:02listing ends by the buyer after that sale is completed by going online to eBay
02:07or through the N.E.W website.
02:10Many sellers substantially improve their sales by offering some form of guaranty
02:14to their buyers, such as money back if not satisfied or an exchange or a refund
02:19to the buyer if they would like to return the product.
02:21I'd like to go ahead and show you some examples of some items and what it would
02:26cost to get an additional warranty for them.
02:29Here's an example of a Mazda computer and you can see that the seller has
02:33offered a returns policy so there is a guarantee offered by the seller.
02:38The seller offers money back, no risk basically no questions asked,
02:42guarantee for the product.
02:43If you're not satisfied you have seven days to return it.
02:47If you went to N.E.W and you wanted to purchase a one-year warranty plan it
02:51would cost about $11.
02:54Here's another example of a diamond ring that was sold on eBay and if you
02:58wanted to purchase an additional warranty on this, then you could purchase it
03:02through N.E.W for $89.99.
03:06Here's the third example a universal charger for Toshiba laptops.
03:10Now this seller offers a really generous 30 day money back guarantee.
03:15The buyer has to pay return shipping if they want to return this product, but if
03:19you wanted to purchase an extended warranty for a one year it would cost $7.EBay
03:24also offers a buyer protection policy that protects the buyer when a good-faith
03:28dispute occurs between the buyer and the seller.
03:31But unlike a warranty or guarantee this reflects poorly on your seller rating.
03:35And it actually hurts you if a buyer has to force you to resolve the
03:38dispute through eBay.
03:39It may result and you're being given a stern warning from eBay or being
03:44suspended from eBay entirely.
03:46That's pretty extreme and it usually won't happen if you take care of your
03:49buyers and you keep your promises.
03:51Some sellers offer items as it is with no additional warranty.
03:55This might make total sense when you're selling something that's obviously not
03:58in good condition and cannot be warranted or guaranteed.
04:01In this case, a seller had an auction for as-is amplifier which is sold for $1,325.
04:08Clearly, in the listing it's say no returns are accepted.
04:11If you scroll down the seller has provided some pretty good information and
04:15talked about why it's being sold and the details about the item.
04:19But it also says that you can't return it if you're not satisfied so you
04:22don't have that option.
04:23But it did sell and it was successful and it is sold for a good amount of money.
04:27So in some cases it makes sense to sell something if it's as-is and you just
04:31don't know whether it's working or not maybe it's got some problems or it's
04:34nonfunctional or it's not in good condition.
04:37I suggest you offer a money back guarantee if you sell used items.
04:41If you sell brand-new merchandise and if there's a manufacturer's warranty on
04:45the item, there's really no need to offer a money back guarantee.
04:48And it won't be prudent to you as a seller, because you will probably end up
04:52getting back items that are opened.
04:54When a buyer has remorse for their purchase.
04:56You would be enabling someone to try before they buy in that case, but if you
05:00have something that's used offering a limited time return guarantee to them
05:03would allow the buyer to fill a higher sense of confidence in what you're
05:07selling and they're more likely to buy it.
05:09Offering buyers a warranty on the categories for which eBay offers those
05:13warranties through N.E.W is also a great way to sell more merchandise.

5. Creating and Managing Listings
Creating an auction-style listing
00:00Now comes the moment you've really been waiting for.
00:03I'm going to show you how to create a listing on eBay.
00:06We're going to create an auction-style listing.
00:09While you've heard that you can list in various formats such as auction-style,
00:13fixed prize, classifieds, eBay Motors and eBay Stores, most of the mechanics of
00:20creating a listing are very similar.
00:22So our very first listing will be Auction format where prospective buyers can
00:27place bids and compete to purchase this item.
00:29You'll want to have your photos handy like I do here.
00:33I have photographs of the item I'll be listing and if you've taken the time
00:37ahead of time to create your title and your description, plus added any
00:41additional information you need to know about this item, you can go ahead and
00:44put that in a Word document.
00:45I've gone ahead and created a text document and put all the information in there.
00:49So we're going to go over to the eBay site and we're going to start the process
00:54of creating this listing.
00:55So I'm going to go ahead and go on to eBay.
00:57You need to be signed in.
00:59Once you're signed in you can click on the button up here that says Sell
01:03and then Sell an item.
01:05Now you'll go to the process of listing the item.
01:08Click on List your item and you'll be presented with a question, What do you
01:13want to sell on eBay?
01:13Well, I'm going to flip over to my Word document and this is a quick trick to
01:19teach you how to find the right category on eBay.
01:22I'm going to copy the title and then I'm going to flip over and paste it
01:26right here into this box.
01:29eBay will look through all the categories that it has and find one that it
01:33thinks will fit the item that you're selling.
01:35Since I'm selling an 1888 Morgan Dollar, I'm going to probably want to list it
01:39in the Morgan Dollars category for 1885 through 1893.
01:45You can also browse categories and that means going through the specific
01:49categories like if I wanted to look for Coins & Paper Money, if I want to look
01:54at US coins, then I could look here and I could find the category for Dollars.
01:59Then I can click over here and click on Morgan and then if it's 1888 we would
02:05select this category right here and then I've selected my category.
02:08So there are a couple of different ways to find the category and I've showed you both of them.
02:12Also Recently used categories are there on the third tab, in case you've used
02:16the category before you can quickly go to it.
02:19Then you can click Continue.
02:20You'll get a little warning here from eBay talking about the authenticity of
02:24items and making sure that the things that you're listing are authentic, and
02:28you'll see the category at the top.
02:30I'll go ahead and paste in my Title.
02:33I've already copied it from the previous Copy and Paste function, so I'll go
02:37ahead and paste it in again.
02:38You'll see that you have 80 characters to fill the title.
02:42Be sure you use all of the 80 characters that are available to you for the
02:45titles and go ahead and use the best practices that we discussed in the prior
02:50movie about using keywords.
02:52Then you want to fill in the Item Specifics.
02:54Every category on eBay has different types of things called Item Specifics.
02:58These are things that would be intrinsic to the type of item that you'll be selling.
03:02This coil is Proof-Like, it was minted in Philadelphia, and it has a Grade which
03:08the grading is provided on the Word document, it's MS62.
03:13So I'll go ahead and fill in the Grade MS62.
03:16It is certified through NGC ( Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) and I do have
03:21a Certificate Number.
03:23So I'll go over to my document where I've copied all this information down
03:27previously and I'll paste it in there.
03:29The Composition is silver and it is un-circulated.
03:33You can also add your own Item Specific, so if there is something that's not
03:37clear about your item specifics here you can add additional item specifics to the listing.
03:42Again, these are category specific, so obviously if you're selling something
03:46like clothing you'll be presented with a different set of item specifics such
03:49as size for example.
03:50Then in the next section we want to add photograph, so bring your item to
03:55life with pictures.
03:56We'll go ahead and click on Add pictures.
03:58The first picture is free in this category.
04:00We'll go ahead and click here and you'll know that I've set up my pictures ahead
04:04of time on my Desktop.
04:05So I'm going to click Browse, I'll go to my Desktop and I'll find the folder
04:09called Morgan Dollar Photos.
04:11You can make sure you have the right pictures by going to the Icon Selection
04:15Tool here and the neat thing about this tool is you can select all the photos at once.
04:20So if I hold my mouse down and drag it across the three pictures all three of
04:24them will load up at the same time.
04:25That's pretty nifty.
04:26Now once the pictures are here you can make some edits.
04:31You can go ahead and select a picture that you'd like to edit and use these
04:34tools here for cropping, rotating, adjusting the exposure and the brightness
04:39and things like that.
04:40So I'm going to go ahead and crop my photo.
04:42You have this Crop Tool that you can use to quickly adjust the picture and make
04:47it a little bit tighter so you have more of the coin and less of the background.
04:51Click Apply and then you'll see that it's been cropped.
04:53You can do that for the rest of the pictures.
04:55You can also rotate the pictures if they are upside down and you can
04:59automatically correct the exposure on your pictures if you'd like to.
05:04So that's another neat tool, or you can manually control them using these tools right here.
05:09You just enter values up or down to make it brighter or to put more contrast on
05:14the picture which you can do there as well.
05:16You can make adjustments to all the photos before you finally upload them.
05:20You have the ability to add some additional options such as Gallery Plus and Picture Pack.
05:25I'll let you learn more about those later on your own, but for now we're going
05:28to go ahead and click Upload.
05:30Once the photos have uploaded they will flip back over to the listing page and
05:34you'll see them show up here.
05:36You can reorient them, if you want using these tools here you can move them
05:39around or you can remove them from the listing entirely.
05:43If you've got too many photos, you feel like you don't need all those photos,
05:45you can do that, and you can continue to add pictures as well if you'd like to.
05:50Next, we'll talk about adding a description to your listing.
05:52Now I've taken the time to go ahead and create a description ahead of time,
05:57which I'm going to copy from over here in my Word document.
05:59Now you can use the Standard WYSIWYG Editor which means What You See Is What You
06:04Get or you can use HTML if you want to.
06:07You can copy and paste HTML directly in here if you'd like, or you can use the
06:11Editor to change things like the Font Size and Color.
06:15So if I wanted to change the font to Times or if I wanted to increase the
06:18font size or perhaps make it red or some other color, you can do that with the tool here.
06:24You can also Center and you can make bulleted lists and so forth.
06:28Now I think I'll just go with a 14-point black font.
06:31I think that's good enough and you can spell-check as well before you
06:35continue listing your item.
06:37Then you have the option to Preview.
06:39If you want to preview your listing you can go ahead and see what it would look like on eBay.
06:43This is not an actual listed item, this is just a preview to show you what the
06:47listing will look like, what your photos will look like.
06:49You can kind of tweak it and make it better here.
06:52Once you've looked at the preview you can go to the next section which
06:55is Listing Designer.
06:57You can add cool themes to your listing.
06:59If you want to add a theme you can preview that as well. Themes cost $0.10.
07:04If you feel like it's something that would help spruce up your listing you can
07:07see this nice antique bordered theme. You can do that.
07:10We'll go ahead and take that off.
07:11The next section is the Visitor counter.
07:14You have different types of counters that you can add to your listing if you'd
07:17like, that would allow you to see how many people have viewed the listing.
07:22And in the next section we can choose our Format.
07:25I've talked to you a little bit about Fixed Price format so we can sell things
07:28at fixed prices, but we're going to use the Online Auction format, so I'll click on that tab.
07:33I want to get a lot of action, so I'm going to start my bidding at $0.99, that
07:37gets people excited about bidding on my item.
07:39I'm going to put an optional Buy It Now price.
07:42I think the coin is worth at least $ 75 and someone who wants to buy it
07:46right-away I'm going to give them the chance to do that and then I'm also going
07:49to add an optional reserve.
07:51A Reserve is a secret number that only you and eBay know that protects the item
07:56from selling it too low of a price.
07:58So I'm going to add a Reserve price of $50 that makes sure that I don't lose my investment.
08:03In the next section you can change the Duration.
08:06You can list this item for between 1 to 10 days, I'm going to leave it at 7 days.
08:10I think that's a nice duration for an auction listing.
08:13If you want the listing to start in the future you can schedule it.
08:18You can go ahead and schedule the listing for up to two weeks in advance and I'm
08:22going to go ahead and schedule this listing for Sunday and I'll make it 12 noon.
08:27So I'll put it at 12 PM, that way people that are at home on Sunday looking at
08:31this coin can bid on the item, if they are likely to be awake and fresh and
08:35interested in bidding on it and probably not at work.
08:37In the next section we have the charity section of eBay called eBay Giving Works
08:42and you can add an optional donation to charity if you like.
08:46Then we need to indicate how we wish to be paid.
08:48Now I do recommend using PayPal on every one of your listings, so I suggest that
08:53you put PayPal on your listing and then you want to put the address that's
08:56associated with your PayPal account there.
09:00Also you can require your buyers to pay immediately.
09:03Now I'm going to turn this off because if someone wants to send a check or money
09:07order I do allow that.
09:08But immediate payment means that if they purchase it, they have to pay for it at
09:12the same time they buy it.
09:14Then provide shipping details.
09:16You can offer Flat rate shipping or you can offer Calculated shipping depending
09:20on your preference, and what sort of items that you're selling.
09:23Obviously, you're selling a coin, you can put a Flat rate on it.
09:26If you're selling something heavier, like a refrigerator, you might
09:29offer shipping at all.
09:30You may ask people to pick it up.
09:31So it really depends on you.
09:33You can say Local pickup only, Freight company only or you can offer Flat rate
09:38or Calculated shipping.
09:39For a coin I'm going to go ahead and offer First Class Mail and you can select
09:43the type of mail service here in the Shipping Tool and I'm going to make it a
09:47Flat rate of a dollar to ship this coin on.
09:49I don't think it's going to cost much more than that.
09:52I will offer buyers the option to pick up the item from me.
09:55You can offer additional services and international shipping if you like, but to
09:59keep things simple we're going to go ahead and quickly go through the listing
10:03process just to show you how it works.
10:04The Handling time is the number of days it will take you from the time that the
10:09buyer pays until you actually pack and ship the order.
10:12If you don't ship on weekends or you're a commercial business, you might put
10:16between three and five day handling time for non-urgent things.
10:19But if you're in the car parts business you might want to do one day handling
10:23because you're more likely to get the sell from a buyer if you offer rapid
10:27shipping on things that are critical.
10:29There are all kinds of additional options that you can add to your listing and
10:33you can exclude locations if you don't ship to them.
10:35We're going to go ahead and just quickly go through the items that are critical
10:38for our listing, such as the Item location.
10:41If you want to you can change the item location.
10:43Let's say you want to change the location of the item because you've moved from
10:47one city to another.
10:48You can put the Zip Code in there and put 90213 which is Beverly Hills.
10:53And once you've done that you'll see the new city show up there.
10:56There is also an option to change Buyer requirements.
10:59If you want you can add restrictions on your buyers for specific things like if
11:04they have a PayPal account.
11:05If they don't have a PayPal account they can't bid on your item.
11:08You can add these restrictions if you like by changing the Buyer requirements
11:11and you can add or remove these options if you wish by going to the list here
11:15and blocking certain buyers who don't necessarily have a PayPal account or if
11:20they've had too many buyer strikes against them for nonpayment.
11:24There's all kinds of other features that you'll be able to see here.
11:26You can even change your returns policy, and I definitely allow people to return items.
11:32I'm going to say 30 days Money Back guarantee and the buyer pays return shipping.
11:36I think that's fair.
11:37And over here I've taken the time to write down my Returns Policy, so I'll go
11:41ahead and copy and paste it over here.
11:43If you're selling something that's maybe as is, you can just change the Returns
11:47Policy to No returns are accepted.
11:50Now you'll see a preview of the fees.
11:52eBay shows you how much it will cost to list the item and then you click Continue.
11:56In the next screen you can add some optional enhancements such as Gallery
12:00Plus, Subtitle or Bold.
12:02If you wish to learn more about those, please go to the eBay help system and you
12:05can take a look at what those services are and what they can do for you.
12:10Let's review the fees.
12:11The Insertion Fee was no charge because I'm within my first 50 free auction
12:15listings in the month.
12:17There is a special promotion on Buy It Now, right now and then the additional
12:20photo that I added was $0.15.
12:22The Reserve price was $2, that was the most expensive part, and scheduling the
12:27listing was 10 extra cents.
12:28So at this point the total cost is $2.25 to list my item.
12:33Since it's scheduled it won't go on eBay right-away, it's going to be scheduled
12:37to be on eBay and you can see the listing information here.
12:40If I click on that listing I'll then be able to preview the listing and see what
12:44it will look like when it actually goes on eBay.
12:47Here is the description and the photos, and you can see over here that it says
12:51Your listing is scheduled and not yet live.
12:54This was a pretty quick walkthrough and since you've been prepping for this
12:57moment all throughout this course you'll know the whys and hows of the various
13:01fields and what to put in them, such as titles and descriptions.
13:05If you scheduled that listing like I did it will go live at the time you set.
13:09If not, if you don't use the schedule feature it will go live immediately and
13:13will be indexed into eBay's search so that people can start searching and
13:17discovering the listing.

Listing with the simplified form
00:00eBay offers a very simplified form for listing basic items, items that don't
00:05have a lot of additional features on them.
00:08you can use the simplified form if you're new to eBay or if you don't have a
00:12lot of things that you want to add to your listing in terms of features and shipping options.
00:17The best time to use the simplified form is when you're shipping domestically,
00:20you've got an item you'd like to send to somebody in the United States and you
00:24don't plan to add any of the optional enhancements such as bold or some of the
00:29other features that eBay offers.
00:31So we're going to walkthrough the simplified form and I'll go ahead and show you
00:35how it works, so let's go to eBay, we'll click on Sell, then we'll click Sell an
00:40item, then we click List your item and then we'll be presented with a login page
00:46of course we have to log in.
00:49Then let's go back to our Word document, here I've got all the information about
00:53my listing in a Word document, then I'm going to copy and paste that into the,
00:58What do you want to sell today?
01:01I'll see the category options, of course I can browse categories if I want to,
01:05but I'll go ahead and use eBay's tool which tells me what it thinks might be the
01:09appropriate categories and I'll select Morgan Dollars 1885 through 1993 will be
01:14the correct category for me, then I click Continue.
01:18eBay has the simplified form available.
01:21Now you can switch between the standard and the simplified form by clicking here
01:26at the top of the page.
01:27So you can see that the form is switchable.
01:30If you've listed using the standard form that's what will appear the next time you list.
01:34If you've used the simplified form that's what will appear the next time you
01:38list, so whichever one you've been using will show up each time you are listing an item.
01:42Since I've already copied my title I'll paste it right here and I've used a lot
01:47of the space of my 80 characters, so I've chalked it full of good keywords, then
01:52I'm going to click here to add a photo, I'm only going to add one photo for this
01:55demo I wanted to show you how to add photos, I am going to go to my Desktop,
01:59I'll go to the Morgan Dollar Photos and then I'll make sure I get the right
02:04photo which is this one right here, I'll just pick one of the three photos I
02:07have then I'll click Upload.
02:11The photo is added, I can scroll down to the next section.
02:15If I want to add Gallery Plus and make a nice big photo in the gallery, when
02:19people are searching for the item I can add $0.35 to the listing and go to
02:22Gallery Plus listing.
02:24Item specifics are specific to the category I've selected and in this case coins
02:29need to have additional information such as what type of strike it is, it's
02:33Proof-Like, what mint it came out of and if there is a grade of any kind, and
02:38over here on my document I've written down the grade as MS62 that means Mint
02:42State, 62 is the grade from NGC, so I'll go ahead and put MS62 and the
02:48Certification was by NGC Numismatic Guaranty Corporation and then I've copied
02:54the Certification Number and pasted it in here.
02:57Now I'm going to go back to my document and get the description from over here
03:01and I'll copy and paste that into my description area and I have the ability to
03:07highlight the text here and change the font size if I want to or I can change
03:11the colors or I can underline specific text, so if I want to say it's Mint State
03:17I can make that bold and italic and underline it, I can do different things with
03:21the WYSIWYG Editor there.
03:22Then the next section is setting the price, now this is going to be an auction
03:26style listing, so I'm going to go ahead and start the bidding at $0.99 for seven
03:29days, I'm going to add an optional Buy It Now, which at the moment is free,
03:33because eBay is offering a promotion on that.
03:36And then eBay Giving Works is the next section I can put an optional donation
03:40option there which means that if I want to I can donate some money to charity.
03:45Then the next section is the Shipping option, so I can add United States Postal
03:48Service or any one of a variety of services here including FedEx and UPS if I
03:54want to, this is a light item, I'm just going to go ahead and throw it in a
03:57padded mailer and add a dollar here for shipping.
04:01If I want to add some additional shipping options I can do that if I want to add
04:04them there it's no problem.
04:06Then I can scroll down and indicate what the handling time will be.
04:10If I'm going to pack and ship my orders everyday I can put one day for business
04:14handling, and if not, if I need the weekend to myself I can go ahead and put
04:18three or four days here.
04:19If you're selling something important like let's say car parts and somebody
04:23needs that part right-away, you might want to put your handling time at a lower number.
04:27I can indicate here if returns are accepted and they certainly are, and then in
04:31the next section I indicate my PayPal address, so that when I receive PayPal
04:35that indicates what address will be used for receiving money.
04:39Then I can block bids from buyers who might make transactions more expensive
04:42or difficult, and that means that someone who has unpaid item strikes or
04:46problems with their eBay account can be blocked from bidding on my item and I
04:51can turn that on and off if I want to, and I can see that my fee to insert
04:54this listing is no charge.
04:57And the reason it's no charge is because the insertion fee is free for the
05:01first 50 items every month on my account, that's auction items, and the Buy It
05:05Now promotion is free and so the total cost of one photo and Buy It Now with auction is zero.
05:11So I'm going to go ahead and scroll down and we'll preview my item.
05:14So you can see here at the actual listing the way it'll appear on eBay and then
05:18you click List your item. There you go.
05:22You can't schedule using the simplified listing form.
05:24So if you want to schedule you have to use the standard form, this item is now
05:28for sale and with the quick and simple simplified listing form I've got an
05:33auction up and in a lot shorter time and it'll be on eBay immediately.
05:38So as a reminder the best time for you to use a simplified listing form is when
05:41you have as few enhancements as possible like you're not using bold or you don't
05:46need subtitles and things on your listing, also when you have a limited number
05:50of shipment options that you're offering.
05:52And in addition to that if you don't want to schedule a listing or ship it
05:55internationally, you can go ahead and use the simplified listing form.

Creating a fixed price listing
00:00You've seen how a listing is created using the Auction Style Format on eBay.
00:05Now let's look at how a fixed-price listing works and what's different about it.
00:09First you want to click Sell then you click Sell an item, then you click list an
00:13item, then over here I've got my description and my title already put in a Word
00:19document I'll just copy that, and then I'll paste it over here.
00:27I can use one of the suggested categories or I can browse categories.
00:30I'll just go ahead and select one of the ones that have been suggested by eBay
00:34which is computer accessories, cables and connectors and power cables, makes
00:40life pretty quick and easy then I click Continue.
00:44Since I already copied the title I'll go ahead and paste it here.
00:47Since the title allows up to 80 characters you can add some more information if
00:52you want to, like more items that it's compatible with, since this is a
00:55universal cable you could put more brand names there.
00:57I'm going to skip Subtitle, that's something I don't really use very often but it is there.
01:02This is a brand-new item, so I'll put brand-new as the condition.
01:05There's an optional feature here that if the item has a UPC code, you'll want to
01:09enter it there because eBay will provide some pre-filled information about that
01:13item, which is called the catalog.
01:15Since there are item specifics available some categories require them and
01:19others do not, this doesn't really apply to what I'm selling, so I'll skip the
01:23Item Specifics, but you could feel them if they are relevant to your item, then
01:27click Add pictures.
01:29Since this is a pretty simple item to power cable I'm going to go to my Desktop
01:33and open up my folder with pictures in it and I'll just pick one of the two
01:38pictures that I've taken for the item and I'll load it up.
01:40If I wanted to I could trim this picture and edit it I can quickly cropped it a
01:45little bit just to make it little bit tighter and then I click Apply, there you
01:49go, it's a nice tight shot.
01:51I do want to promote this a little bit more than most things because I have a
01:55lot of these available and I want to get it out there and I want to get people
01:58noticing, so I'm going to click on here Gallery Plus, makes a much bigger
02:01picture in the search results of gallery.
02:04The Picture Pack I'm going to skip, but if you wanted to take advantage of it
02:07you could get more pictures for a discount.
02:11Now that I have my picture in, I'm going to go ahead and copy my description and
02:15I'll go ahead and copy it, I'll go back over here to eBay and paste it, so I
02:18definitely want to paste that in, so I don't have to type it all over again.
02:23I'm going to change the font size and color, I am going to go ahead and make a
02:27couple of changes and I'll make a change in the color of the font as well.
02:31If you want to use any of the formatting tools they're all here and available
02:34for you including things like changing the color, bold, italic, underline, you
02:41can align the text to the left or right or you can center it, you can create
02:45lists and things like that or you can use the indent features that are there.
02:49You can preview your listing, you can see what it would look like on eBay at
02:52this point, nice picture and I didn't even use professional lighting kit, that
02:57was just a camera phone picture.
02:58I am going to close the Preview and I'll continue to scroll down, you can add an
03:03optional listing template which is called Listing Designer if you want to, and
03:07there is a free counter available and I'm definitely going to use a free
03:10counter, because I want to see how many people have looked at my listing.
03:13Now here's what's different, you remember that we had started our previous
03:17listing as an online auction and with the auction format listing we were able to
03:21put a starting bid and reserve and a Buy It Now price on that listing.
03:25This tab allows us to use fixed price, so I'm going to enter in my fixed price,
03:29I want to get $12.95 for each of these.
03:32I also have this feature which is called Best Offer, people can make offers and
03:37those offers can be less than what I'm asking for the item and I can receive
03:41those offers and accept or decline them.
03:43eBay can manage that for you and if you have the price window, you can go ahead
03:49and set your top and bottom prices, so I always want to accept any offer of at
03:53least $10, but I always want to decline offers that are below $8.Scrolling
03:59through you can then enter in your quantity and quantity I'm going to put on
04:03here is 10 although I have a thousand of these, I don't want to people to think
04:06they're just junk, there's too many of them.
04:08I don't want to show some perceived values, so I'll only put 10 in there and
04:11then the durations available here, you can put 3, 5, 7, 10, 30 days or Good Til
04:17Cancelled, I'm going to use Good Til Cancelled which means that the listing
04:20stays on eBay until all the quantity that are available have sold.
04:25I don't think you need scheduling on a listing that has Good Til Cancelled,
04:28but if you have an item that has a duration that's not Good Til Cancelled, you
04:32can use the schedule listing to kind of adjust when that listing will end on the eBay site.
04:37In the next section you can use the optional feature for eBay Giving Works
04:41which is a optional charity donation you can make to your charity of choice if
04:45you want to, and then indicate what PayPal address you'll be using to receive payments.
04:50I want to select Require immediate payment, that means that if somebody does not
04:54have a PayPal account they won't be able to buy my item, because when they
04:57purchase it I want them to pay for it right-away, that's what that option is.
05:02What I'll do with shipping is this is a pretty light item, so I'm going to give
05:05flat rate shipping to my buyers, when I offer that I'm going to put a flat rate
05:09in there and since there is more than one available, eBay asks me how much do I
05:13want to put in for each additional item, it only costs about a buck to ship this
05:17and I'll put in here $0.50 for each additional item.
05:21And then for additional features like an add priority mail if you want to I
05:24added first-class here, I can put Priority Mail and I can say it's going to
05:27be $5 for the first item and maybe a dollar additional for each additional
05:31cable that's purchased.
05:33You can add up to four domestic shipping services if you want and I do let
05:38people pick up items locally, so I'll go ahead and check Local pickup.
05:42I can also create some rules for combined shipping if you want to and you can
05:46also indicate how fast you'll process the order, so if you ship everyday you can
05:50put one business day.
05:51If you ship a couple of times a week you might want to put three or four days in
05:55there that's probably a good idea.
05:57And for international shipping if you do ship international you're going to
06:01want to go ahead and put in international shipping options here, for that I do
06:05charge $12 for the cable for the first item and then I'll say $5 for each additional one.
06:10There is some other information you can fill in such as your item location you
06:14can change that, you can put some buyer restrictions on here for anyone who has
06:18too many unpaid item strikes on their account at eBay, you can block them and
06:23you can also change your returns policy.
06:26Returns is very important to me because I let my buyer's return items within
06:2930 days no questions asked and I'm going to go ahead and leave that the way it
06:33is, you can change the returns policy if you want to, but I'm going to leave it as is.
06:38Additional information about the items such as how soon you require payment and
06:42things like that, you can put it into this box right here and then you'll see
06:45what the eBay fees will be so far for listing what you've set up on the site.
06:50In the next page I have some additional enhancements, I already have Gallery
06:53Plus on there, I definitely want to add Bold, because I'm interested in getting
06:58people's attention and I have a lot of these for sale, and then I'll scroll down
07:01and I can see the review of the fees that are here, all the fees for listing
07:05this site including the Insertion Fee, the Gallery Plus fee, the Bold Fee and
07:10then the total is $5.50, then I can go ahead and click List and then the item
07:15will be active on eBay, there you go.
07:16Now I can see the listing, it is active on eBay and for sale and looks good,
07:22picture looks good and the description looks good, all the information is there.
07:26There is virtually no difference in the steps you take to create a fixed price
07:30listings from when you make auction style listings.
07:32Making a listing in an eBay store if you decide to create one is
07:37virtually identical to.
07:39An eBay selling account lets you create these different listing formats.
07:43you can also sell vehicles on eBay if you're interested in doing that.

Connecting eBay with social media
00:00eBay is a vast community of users and many of those users are active buyers.
00:06There is a really good chance your item will sell without any additional
00:09promotion other than just listing it on eBay and waiting for an eager buyer to
00:13come along and bid on it or use By It Now.
00:16When you sell things that might be of interest to your friends, your family,
00:19or coworkers or perhaps even repeat buyers, you'll want to understand how to
00:23use the promotional tools that are on eBay for sharing information about your listings.
00:29I have this very rare and unusual 1912 World War I Doughboy Army Uniform that
00:33I have for sell on eBay right now and because it's kind of interesting and
00:37eclectic item I'd like to share it not only with people who've bought similar
00:41items from me in the past, but I also want to share with people on Twitter and Facebook.
00:45I'm going to go ahead and show you all of these different features on eBay I'll
00:49show you them right here.
00:50It's kind of hidden.
00:51It's down here in the little far right to middle of the screen you'll see the
00:56Share options and you'll see an email icon.
00:58Then you'll see a Facebook icon and then you'll see a Twitter icon.
01:03I'll go ahead and click on the Email option and you'll see a page pop-up that
01:08lets you type in some information.
01:09The first piece of information is the email address.
01:13This is the email address of the person you'd like to receive that information.
01:16What will happen is I'll be emailing a copy of this listing and a link to bring
01:21that person to the listing when they click that link.
01:23I can put a personal message here if I want to or I can just leave the standard
01:27message that eBay provides.
01:29Then I scroll down and I can copy myself on the email and then send the message.
01:33So I'll go ahead and send the message, and then what happens is eBay will email
01:38the other person a copy of that listing information and you'll see right here in the Inbox.
01:43I sent it to myself in this case.
01:45You'll see a copy of the listing link.
01:47I'll go ahead and show the images, because you can see that Gmail blocks
01:51them automatically.
01:52Then you can see the link to the listing and if I click on that link the person
01:56who receive that email can immediately click over and take a look at the listing
02:00right away and perhaps bid on it or buy it.
02:03So that's how the email option works.
02:05Let's take a look again at the listing page, I'll go back to it and we'll scroll
02:09down and we'll take a look at the Facebook option.
02:12When you click on the Facebook option you need to be actually signed into
02:16your Facebook page.
02:18So I'm going to go ahead and sign-in.
02:20Then you have a little space here you can use to right on your Wall, and you
02:24can either leave it as is and go ahead and post it without putting any
02:28additional comments or you can add your own personal touch, and I'm going to do that myself.
02:32So I'm going to say, This is just listed, a really rare and interesting piece of
02:39Word War I memorabilia.
02:45Then go ahead and Share the link, and that'll now appear on your Facebook stream.
02:50Now that you've posted this link on your Facebook profile you can see right here
02:54that it immediately appears on your Facebook stream on your Wall and it allows
02:59people to see it and comment on it as well.
03:01Let's go ahead and take a look at the Twitter sharing option.
03:04Over here you'll see an option to share on Twitter.
03:06If you click that you'll have to sign into your Twitter account.
03:11Once you're signed in you can go ahead and just post the link as it is or you
03:15can have a little additional text if you want to.
03:18I'm going to say it because it's very short.
03:20You only have so much space on Twitter.
03:22This is just listed a super rare item, and then I'll Tweet it.
03:30Now that that's done I can go ahead and view it on Twitter. And here we go!
03:35Voila!
03:36It's right there on my Twitter profile.
03:38If I click on my user ID, I'll be able to see the stream of post that I've made
03:44and that includes a link to that listing.
03:46If I click on that, boom, it takes me right to the listing itself.
03:50Social media sites are now the hottest trend with individuals all over the globe
03:55joining on to these sites in droves.
03:57You've created your own network of friends, colleagues, and your own customers
04:02through these social media sites and now you can share that information about
04:05your eBay listings with these people and help sell more items.
04:09These additional promotional tools will help you share that information quickly
04:13and maybe these people are interested in buying it, maybe your friends or your
04:16colleagues might be interested and purchasing something that you have to sell.
04:19This is going to help catalyze more sells from folks that know and trust you.

Using My eBay to manage listings
00:00Getting your listings up and running isn't the end of the road. You'll also need
00:04convenient tools to manage those listings and you'll be going through a tool
00:09called My eBay very frequently to manage your listings on eBay.
00:12That's a place where you'll answer questions from buyers, handle offers, and
00:16manage your sales and shipping.
00:18I'm going to walk you through the My eBay tool right now by going to this link
00:22at the top of the page called My eBay.
00:25You can quickly jump to the selling section of My eBay, but I'm going to click
00:28at the top here where it says My eBay to show you all the features of my eBay
00:32very briefly and walk you through step by step.
00:36First of all, you'll see some tabs here.
00:37There are four tabs going across.
00:39You'll see the Activities tab, Messages tab, the Account tab, and Applications.
00:44The first tab is all the activity for your buying and selling and your
00:47purchase history and all the information about what you've been doing as far
00:51as trading on eBay.
00:52The second tab is the Message tab, this as a secure messaging system that allows
00:57eBay and the users on eBay to communicate with you without using an email inbox.
01:03This is your own private messaging center on the eBay site where secure messages
01:08can be sent to you about offers you received, for specific items that you're
01:12selling, or questions about an item that might need to be answered or perhaps
01:16even customer-service challenges where maybe a buyer needs a tracking number or
01:20information about the order they've placed with you.
01:22Important system messages are also sent through here so that you can receive
01:26updates on information from eBay directly.
01:29The next tab is the Account tab.
01:31Within the Account tab you can manage your account on eBay and change your preferences.
01:36With the Account tab you can manage all the preferences and your business
01:39information and what you'll be able to change here are things like your business
01:43address, your phone number, your email address, also ways in which eBay can
01:47communicate with you can be adjusted here.
01:50Your preferences on the site and other information that's important about
01:53managing your eBay account for buying and selling.
01:56You'll also see an account summary where information about how much money you
01:59owe eBay for fees is presented, copies of your invoices can be obtained from
02:03this page, and you can also change the method you use for paying eBay your
02:07seller fees when you're listing items and selling them on the eBay account.
02:11The next tab is the Applications tab.
02:14Within the Applications tab you can pick up third-party applications that you
02:18can use to enhance your eBay business.
02:20These are applications from third- party companies that you can download into
02:24your eBay account and use to manage your business better.
02:27I'm going to go back to the Activity tab and I'm going to scroll through some of
02:33the sections here to explain them a little bit more in detail.
02:36As you first land here you see your Watch List.
02:38These are items that you're watching, and this is for buying.
02:41Since we're talking about selling I'm going to jump directly to the Lists
02:44section and the selling sections.
02:46I'm going to show you a little bit here about Lists.
02:48We've talked about how to bookmark specific searches and bookmark individual
02:52items that's called Watching Items.
02:54I have a list of items that I've watched right here.
02:57Also, I have some saved searches.
02:59So items that I've wanted to watch on eBay on a regular basis such as perhaps
03:04Epson printer or in this case I needed a John Deere Riding Mower or things like
03:09Xerox Toner for my color printer.
03:11All that can be saved here as well.
03:13Saved sellers are the favorite sellers that I watch when I'm looking for bargains.
03:17So these are people that I know are selling great items and I can purchase items
03:21for resell from them.
03:23In some cases these are wholesalers who sell merchandise on eBay that I can turn
03:26around and resell here in this section.
03:29Now let's talk through step by step the different selling tabs on My eBay.
03:33These are bookmarks or links or you could also call them filters for different
03:38aspects and facets of what you'll be doing as a seller.
03:41If you clicked the All Selling link you'll see that there's a filter for all the
03:45activity of items that you're selling and there is a summary here and a
03:49dashboard that explains all those activities.
03:51I can see a dashboard here that explains all the current activity that's going
03:55on with my sales, I can see that I have some items with questions from buyers,
03:59I'm waiting for payment, and I have to ship some things, and there is a bunch of
04:02other helpful reminders here on the Selling Reminder section.
04:06I also have an Active Selling link and filters here across the top.
04:10These filters allow me to quickly jump to specific types of listings.
04:15I've got listings with questions and I can quickly look at those listings and
04:18the answer the questions to the buyer.
04:20Once I've answered those questions I'll most likely get a purchase from one of those buyers.
04:24That's the name of the game.
04:25Quick response and customer service results in actual sales.
04:28I've got some open offers from buyers here.
04:30These are buyers that have made offers on items and they want to go ahead and
04:33make an offer slightly lower than what I've asked for, for these items on eBay.
04:37And I've got a number of other tabs here where you can filter out things like
04:41items Without Bids/Reserved Not Met, perhaps you want to look at items with
04:46Markdowns when you're using Markdown Manager that's if you have an eBay store, and I do.
04:50There are a lot of other filters here on the left-hand side and you can walk
04:53through each of them and see items that are Scheduled, Active Listings, items
04:58that you Sold and Unsold items as well.
05:00I'm going to go ahead and quickly show you something about unsold items.
05:03So if you're in the Unsold item section, you can scroll through the unsold items
05:08and use one of these menus here and you can re-list those items.
05:12So here is a Terminator 2 Authentic Crew Jacket, it didn't sell the first time
05:17around which doesn't mean it's not going to sell.
05:18I can go ahead and quickly relist this item and send it out to auction again or
05:23perhaps send it to my store as a Fixed Price item.
05:25I also have the ability to leave notes.
05:28So let's say I sold something and I want to go to my Sold items.
05:30I have a customer who has called me on the phone and said, hey, I really need
05:34this gift wrapped and I also need to have card enclosed, because it's a gift for my mother.
05:38Well, what I'll do is I'll go ahead and click on that item, I'll look at More
05:42actions, and I can add a note.
05:44You'll see that there is a lot of other options here in this menu and you
05:47can explore these on your own time, but we're going to click here and add a
05:50note, customer needs this gift wrapped for his mother with a card that says,
06:01Happy Birthday Mom. Love, Joe.
06:07Once you've entered that note it'll pop up and it'll appear right here on the page.
06:11Another neat feature here on My eBay is the ability to make reports and print things.
06:16So if you ever want to print a page with the information that you've entered or
06:20that you've been managing, you can click the Print option here and you can make
06:23a new page here that will paginate and create a nice neat page that you can turn
06:28round and the send to your printer as well.
06:31So that's a very handy feature especially if you like paper and you like seeing
06:34things in your hand.
06:36In each of the sold items when you look in this column here you'll see things
06:40like a shopping cart icon, a dollar sign ($), these are different icons that
06:44have different meanings.
06:45For example, if someone has completed checkout which means that they've gone
06:49through the process of buying an item and they've given a shipping address and
06:53also paid for that item, you'll see that the icons turned blue.
06:57When this icon turns blue that means I've shipped that item.
07:00You also see icons for things like Feedback left.
07:03This helps you to manage your eBay listings more efficiently, because you have
07:07these quick and easy to understand legend icons.
07:11So these icons are found here on the lower left-hand side and you can look
07:14through them and see what each of them means and what the purposes of them are.
07:19Getting to know My eBay can look a little overwhelming at first, because there's
07:22so much information that you can garner from this eBay dashboard and it manages
07:27all your activities on eBay in one place.
07:30Given enough time it'll definitely become second nature to you to use my eBay
07:34and it will become your best friend for staying organized and staying on top
07:38of your eBay business.

Revising current listings
00:00Suppose you've created a listing on eBay and you want to make some changes to
00:04that listing, because you felt may be the price was too high and it had no bids
00:08or you want to add some additional photographs or perhaps you want to make some
00:12changes to the description or enhance the listing with some additional options
00:16that eBay offers such as listing enhancements.
00:19It's easy to make changes to a listing so long as there are no bids on that listing.
00:24In order to make a revision to an item you'll first want to find that listing,
00:27so you can go to My eBay and go the Selling link and you can scroll down and
00:32take a look at the items that you have for sale.
00:34There's Active listings on the left-hand side and you can quickly go to that link.
00:39I have a Vintage Leather Men's Cowboy Belt and I want to go ahead and revise
00:43that listing, there are no bids on it yet and I don't have any offers pending,
00:47so I click on the listing.
00:49You'll find a Revise your item link right here.
00:51When you click that hot link you'll go into the listing revision page.
00:55Now this allows you to revise the listing in the very same interface that you've
01:00used when you created the same listing.
01:02So let's say I wanted to add some additional keywords to my title.
01:05I can certainly do that.
01:06I discovered that the buckle on this belt is Sterling Silver and that's a very
01:11important detail, so I want to add that to the listing.
01:15Now eBay has 80 characters for the title, so I can even add more keywords if
01:19I really wanted to.
01:21I scroll through and I realize that I want to add some additional information
01:24such as the Color, so there's definitely Browns in this belt and I want to add that as well.
01:29I don't really like this photograph and I don't feel it really helps retail this
01:34item any better, so I am going to Remove one photograph and I am going to Add
01:37some additional photographs.
01:39Adding photographs is exactly the same process as when we first created the listing.
01:44I locate the folder that has my photographs and I go ahead and take a look at
01:48the ones I want to add.
01:50You can add one picture at a time or you can hold the Ctrl key down on your
01:54keyboard and add a couple or multiple photos all at once.
01:59You may remember that there are some tools for Cropping and adjusting, editing
02:04and making changes to the exposure and brightness and contrast of your picture.
02:08So I am going to go ahead and Apply a Crop to this photo and make it clear that
02:12the belt buckle is nice and beautiful and big and bright.
02:15I don't think that somebody really needs to see the whole picture here, they
02:19just need to know how long this belt is, so I am going go ahead and Crop down
02:23here to where the measurements are, so people can see them really nice and big
02:27and when you do that you can go ahead and click Apply and you can click Upload.
02:32You have the option to add additional feature enhancements at this point just as
02:35when you created the listing for the first time.
02:38Now that I've added some additional photographs, I think it's important to
02:42mention that the belt buckle is Sterling silver, so I am going to say Sterling
02:47silver and then you can make some additional changes to listing by going through
02:52and making those changes now.
02:54I figured that with the Sterling silver belt buckle adding about $50 in value to
02:59this belt, I am going to go ahead and make it $109.
03:03You can make changes to any aspect of the listing since there is no bids on
03:07it, no offers and then you click Continue, you go to the next page and you
03:12Submit the revisions.
03:14I want to talk about some very, very important details about revising your listings.
03:20If you have more than 12 hours before the end of the listing you can revise
03:24any aspect anything about your listing format, your features, your pictures and so forth.
03:30You cannot extend the duration of your listing if two or more hours have elapsed
03:35since you originally submitted it that's the one restriction.
03:39You can add or remove any listing enhancements you want to otherwise.
03:43You can also add a second eBay category.
03:45You can add to the item description, you can add photos, enhancements and
03:49reduce the reserve price if you've chosen to add one on any Auction-style format listing.
03:54If there are less than 12 hours before the listing ends you can only add
03:58listing upgrades to increase your listings visibility on eBay, but you cannot
04:03make other changes to it.
04:04Let's go ahead and take a look at the revisions we've made on this listing for the belt.
04:08You can see that the new price is there and the additional photos that I took
04:12are there, nice big, bright photos are there, and you can scroll through and
04:16see the changes that I made to the description as well and that's all there is to it.
04:21Using the revision options you can tighten up your eBay listings.
04:25You can make corrections and revisions and that's something you'll want to
04:28do from time to time.
04:29If a buyer contacts you about something important on the listing maybe you've
04:33missed that important detail that will come up during questions and answers
04:37exchanges on the messaging system on my eBay.
04:40Then you'll realize you want to add more photos or simply sharpen up the quality
04:44of your description to make it more appealing to your buyer.

Handling buyer communications
00:00We've all had bad and great customer service experiences.
00:04When we're buying anything, we can expect a certain level of common courtesy and
00:08customer service from the person or company from whom we're buying.
00:12We'll cover the best ways to encourage bids from buyers through great
00:15communication on eBay.
00:16Center on a positive attitude when replying to prospective buyers, because a
00:20lot of buyers may be in a hurry and fail to read your listing thoroughly.
00:24They may ask questions you've already answered.
00:26But answer them back anyway in a friendly and a positive tone.
00:30The worst thing you can do is preface a response by saying that you've already
00:33answered that question in the listing.
00:34That's a real bummer, and buyers will get turned off in a jiffy.
00:38Unless you offer a telephone number in your listings, you'll be receiving your
00:42buyer questions through emails through the eBay system.
00:45There are fraudsters out there and using eBay system
00:48directly will ensure that you're dealing with an actual registered eBay user.
00:53You can see that user's profile and feedback and get a general sense that you
00:57are dealing with someone legitimate.
01:00Prompt communication is important.
01:02If you are going on vacation, it's not a good idea to list items and miss out
01:05on potential bidders or buyers because of a lack of access to a computer or mobile phone.
01:11Keep your replies to buyer's fun and light, but focus on answering their
01:15questions thoroughly.
01:16Express your gratitude for the buyer's interest in your item and thank them
01:20for making an enquiry.
01:22If you're communicating with someone who has already made a purchase, be
01:25prepared to respond to request for shipping and tracking information or request for returns.
01:31You may even want to take a moment to give a cordial email follow-up about the
01:34sale and find out if the buyer was completely satisfied.
01:38You can always contact a buyer from your eBay listing using the eBay contact feature.
01:44It's great to offer a fabulous product but great service goes that extra mile
01:48for your eBay business, and handling buyer communication effectively and with
01:52the great attitude translates into more sales for you.
01:55Be friendly and punctual with your buyer emails, and you'll definitely see a
01:59huge difference in the response you'll receive from buyers.

Handling offers
00:00When you list an item at a fixed price, eBay permits you to offer an optional
00:05feature on your listing called Best Offer.
00:08This feature permits you to haggle with your potential buyer, so that they feel
00:12they can get a better deal with you.
00:14I've covered briefly in the listing movie for a fixed price listing, how you
00:18can establish a high and a low price threshold when making these listing best offers.
00:24Now, I'll show you in practice how the best offer feature works from the seller
00:27side of things, so let's walkthrough that process.
00:30First of all you can always see a best offer on any listing page when someone's
00:34made an offer on an item and you're on the listing page, you'll be able to see
00:38that there is an offer that's come in on this item.
00:40So this item has best offer and you can see a Make Offer button on the listing
00:45and you can also see here where someone has made an offer on the item.
00:48If I wanted to, I could go ahead and review that offer right now by just
00:52clicking Review offer, then you'll see the actual offer and the details of that
00:56offer and any conditions that the buyer may have put in with the offer.
01:00Any buyer who makes an offer can include a note with the offer itself, so let's
01:05go ahead and flip over to My eBay for a second and take a look at the Selling
01:10link and you'll see here if you're doing a lot of business and you've a lot of
01:14offers coming in, you might want to use My eBay to manage those offers.
01:18You can see right here that there are 3 items with offers from buyers, so I am
01:22going to go ahead and click on that and then I'll see a list of those items that have offers.
01:27Open Offers are shown here or on My eBay under the Active Selling link under the
01:31filter for Open Offers which you can see right here, it's a tab that you can
01:35see, then you can click Respond to offers.
01:37So when you see My eBay and you see an Offer you can respond to that Offer here.
01:41I am going to scroll down and take a look at this offer for the Cowboy Belt I
01:45got a really low offer its only $10, I am going to Decline this offer, it's
01:49just so low that I think that the buyer is not serious and I don't want to make
01:53a counteroffer, I just want to let him know, hey, I appreciate the offer, but
01:57I'm not really interested, so I appreciate your offer and then I'll go ahead
02:02and Decline the offer.
02:03What will happen next is that the buyer will receive a notice through eBay
02:09saying, hey, you know, the seller wasn't really interested in your offer.
02:11The buyer has a chance to make up to two more offers, because you can see here
02:15that eBay is indicating that there is two offers remaining.
02:18I am going to go Back to My eBay for a second and I am going to look at my Open
02:22Offers, again, I am going to click on that link and I am going to Respond to the next offer.
02:27The next offer is for the Earthenware Doggie Dish that I have for sale.
02:32So this buyer has made an offer of $25, I think that's a pretty good offer, I
02:36might seriously consider that offer, but you know what I actually have about
02:39$20-$25 into this dish, so I am going to make a counteroffer.
02:43So I am going to click here and make a counteroffer and I am going to scroll
02:47down and put a counteroffer in, and I am going to say, you know what, I could
02:50probably want $30.00 for this dish.
02:52So I am going to say here, Thanks, and then I can go ahead and Review the
02:56offer and this is a counteroffer, so I am going to go ahead and Submit the
02:59counteroffer to the buyer and now we'll see that there's a counteroffer that's been made on it.
03:04Now, you can retract your counteroffer under certain circumstances and you can
03:08learn more about that here by clicking on the retraction option.
03:12If you accidentally enter a wrong amount or The description of the item was
03:16changed significantly or You can't get in touch with the other person those are
03:20the reasons that you can retract your offer if you want to.
03:22Now I am going to go back to the Best offer deal sheet and take a look out for this listing.
03:27You'll here all the Offers on the left-hand side that have been sent, any
03:31expired Offers and Offers that you've received will all be over there and if you
03:35click on listing page for the listing, you'll have information about Offer
03:39History on the right-hand side.
03:41If you want to learn more about an Offer on the listing, you can go ahead and
03:44click on that link, it will take you back to that Purchase History information,
03:48which will also show you the Offer History, you can see it all there.
03:51I am going to go back to My eBay and I'll manage the last Offer that was made
03:55and let's take a look at real quick.
03:58I have one Open Offer and then I have one counteroffer, so there are two open
04:02offers right now, and I am going to Respond to this one, I'll click here, and I
04:06see that someone has offered me $9. 50 for one of the computer cables.
04:11Will this fit a standard desktop computer?
04:13My cable is broken and I need a replacement.
04:15Please let me know. Thanks, Tom.
04:17Well, Tom made an offer, and I think it's a very fair offer, so I am going to
04:21go ahead and Accept his offer, and then I am going to leave a note and with the invoice.
04:25When I Send an Invoice saying that this will fit any standard computer, this
04:31cable, so really good customer service is important and when you contact your
04:37buyer and you're interacting with them offering them as much customer support
04:42with any transaction, including offers is important.
04:45With the best offer feature, buyers can negotiate.
04:47this is a time-tested tried-and-true method for negotiating with other people
04:51when you're doing business.
04:53eBay enhances your selling experience by allowing buyers to wheel and deal with you.
04:57You can accept a best offer.
04:59you can make a counteroffer or Decline the offer entirely.
05:03Each best offer is good for up to 48 hours.
05:05A best offer just like any Bid or Buy it Now action is binding on the buyer and
05:11when a seller accepts the best offer made by a buyer on eBay, buyer and seller
05:15are both equally bound to complete the transaction.
05:18A really nice thing about best offer is that it's free to use, so be sure you
05:22take advantage of it on your fixed-price listings.

Completing the sale
00:00Once you've made your first sale you want to complete the transaction and get paid.
00:04I'll walk you through the simple process of completing a transaction with your buyer.
00:09You'll manage your transactions and your sales through My eBay, and go up here
00:14to My eBay and click on the Selling link.
00:16Then you scroll down, and you go to the section where it says Sell, then you can
00:22click on the filter for Sold items.
00:24That's the place where I'm going to go.
00:26In the Sold items section you have these different filters that allow you to see
00:30which items are awaiting questions to be answered and which items are Awaiting
00:34Payment and Shipment.
00:37In order to send an invoice to your buyer, you'll need to go to the
00:40Awaiting Payment section.
00:43And it's important to send an invoice for shipping cost, especially to buyers
00:46where they are overseas or they have asked for a shipping upgrade, like
00:49overnight shipping perhaps.
00:51You can see here that there is different statuses going on.
00:54You have an unpaid item case open for transaction.
00:57That means that this particular buyer has not yet paid for this item.
01:00And I've opened a case with eBay saying, hey, I notice this buyer hasn't paid, I
01:05haven't heard from them, I'd like to go ahead and try and resolve this.
01:08You can see the various statuses here, and when an item has completed check out,
01:12like this particular buyer has provided their shipping address, you'll see a
01:16little Checkout icon here.
01:18You'll also see an indication of whether or not a sale is an International Sale as well.
01:22I'm going to go through a couple of things here and show you a few steps that
01:27are needed when you're checking out and sending invoices to your buyers.
01:31So the first step is, if you need to send an invoice to your buyer, you can go
01:34to the listing and you'll Send an Invoice.
01:36There is an Invoice option right here.
01:38You can always send an invoice directly from the listing page as well.
01:42Once you click the button, you'll go to the Send Invoice dialog option, and here
01:47you can see the total shipping and handling that's been calculated by eBay.
01:51This is based on the weight that you gave eBay when you listed the item and also
01:55the method of shipping that you offered.
01:57Let's say a buyer wants to change the method of shipping to a faster method,
02:00such as Express Mail.
02:02You can go ahead and change that information and provide the new cost for the shipping.
02:06If your state requires Sales Tax to be charged on an item, you can go ahead and
02:10add Sales Tax by percentage here as well.
02:13Sales tax in California has gone to 8.75% statewide.
02:18Then you can go ahead and send the invoice.
02:20If you want to add a note or change the standard note here, you can go ahead and
02:24give your buyer some additional information. I noticed.
02:28you also have an option here to Copy yourself on the invoice, that means a copy
02:31of the invoice will be sent to your My eBay messaging system.
02:35Then you can go ahead and click the Invoice by Sending it here.
02:38You have the option to Preview the invoice if you'd like to.
02:41Once you've sent the invoice, you can click here, you can go ahead and see the
02:44Order details page, and all the information about this order, including the new
02:49freight and handling charges that you've charged the buyer.
02:51You'll have some additional options here, and if you click on this little
02:54character, you can see that you can Print shipping label, Add tracking number,
02:58you can do a whole lot of different things, including Sending another Invoice.
03:02Let's say I need to send a revised invoice, I can click here, and I can
03:05revise the invoice.
03:06If I want to change the method of shipping to another method yet again, let's
03:09say the buyer has a street address and they want UPS as the method of shipping,
03:14I can go ahead and change the shipping method here.
03:16And I can go ahead and send the invoice again.
03:18This time I'm going to Preview the invoice, so you can see what a preview looks like.
03:22You'll see what the invoice would look like to the buyer, and when you send this
03:25invoice, it will look just like this page, where the buyer will have an option
03:29to Pay Now and use PayPal as the method of payment.
03:32Once you're done previewing, you can go ahead and Send the Invoice again.
03:35Now, let's talk about a few more features.
03:38I'm going to go ahead back to my eBay by clicking here, and I'm going to discuss
03:42a couple of more things.
03:43So let's go ahead and take a look at the Sold listings.
03:47We'll go down to the filters and we'll take a look at Awaiting Payment again.
03:52If a payment never arrives, you can also open a dispute with eBay to go ahead
03:57and moderate that issue with eBay directly.
04:00So let's say that you've got a buyer who just hasn't paid for an item and you
04:03need to get payment from them, you can go ahead and send a message through
04:06eBay to open up a case.
04:08So what we do is we click on the listing and we click on Resolve a Problem.
04:12At this point, because it's been less than four days since the listing ended,
04:17I cannot yet open a case, so we have to give the buyer a chance to make the payment.
04:22So my only option at this point is if I want to cancel the transaction, I can do
04:26that, but if I want to go ahead and open the case for nonpayment, I'm going to
04:29have to wait a little bit longer and continue to communicate with the buyer
04:32before I open an official case with eBay.
04:34So I'm going to go back one more step and take a look at the list again, and
04:39I'll take a look at this item right here, and I'll click Resolve a Problem.
04:43In this case, it's been more than four days since the end of listing, I sold
04:47this item and I haven't received payment yet, so I'm going to use this option
04:50right here and click Continue.
04:52In the next page, I can Submit an unpaid item dispute officially through eBay,
04:57and I'll have this moderated with the eBay computer system.
05:00It's not a live person, it's actually a computer system that moderates this case.
05:05This case with the buyer is now open, and officially this is now a dispute with
05:10the buyer for nonpayment.
05:12If the buyer chooses to pay, this case will close automatically, and if they
05:15don't, I'll have the option to either relist the item and get my eBay final
05:19value fees back, or I can put an unpaid item strike on the buyer so that future
05:24sellers won't be necessarily affected by this buyer, because eventually if they
05:28do that too many times, their account will be closed.
05:31I'm going to go back to My eBay for a second and take a look at some other features.
05:35On the Sold link I had a buyer contact me and said that they no longer wanted to
05:40purchase the item, and in fact that they had changed their mind.
05:43So I'm going to go back to Awaiting Payment.
05:44I'm going to take a look at that listing and then I'm going to give them the
05:47opportunity to cancel the transaction, so I am not going to require them to
05:51complete the transaction.
05:52I'll click here on the listing.
05:54The buyer has contacted me and made me good faith effort to resolve the problem.
05:59And what I'll do is I can no longer see the Resolve a Problem link here, what
06:02I'll do is I'll go down to the eBay Item number and I'll Copy that, and then
06:08I'll go up to Customer Support on the Resolution Center.
06:12Over here I want to cancel the transaction, you'll see a list of all the
06:16cases that you have open with other buyers on eBay, and I want to cancel the transaction.
06:21I click Continue.
06:22I put the eBay number in.
06:23And then you'll see a note here that we have a related unpaid item case
06:29open with this buyer, and if I do go ahead and cancel this transaction,
06:33this case will be closed.
06:35So what I'm going to do is indicate that the buyer changed their mind and they
06:38made a mistake, which is what they did, and I'll say that I'll relist the item,
06:43and then I'll Send a request.
06:45eBay has canceled this transaction and the buyer is no longer obligated to
06:49complete it, and my final value fee will be refunded by eBay at this point.
06:53Now, once someone has paid for an item, you'll see clearly in the My eBay
06:58section here an indication that the payment has been made using this little icon right here.
07:03So you'll see a Dollar ($) sign in darker blue, and that's what will appear once
07:07the payment has been received.
07:09Using eBay's Checkout system is easy, and completing the sale with your buyer is
07:13a breeze with these online tools provided by eBay. We're almost done.
07:17We still need to pack and ship the order and get it to the buyer.
07:20Now that you've been paid, you'll want to move quickly to get the product out
07:24and take care of that buyer as quickly as possible, because you have an eager
07:27customer who can't wait to get the item they want from you.

Packing and shipping
00:00Now you have made a sale and you have an excited buyer who wants to receive what
00:04they won from you on eBay.
00:06Safely getting that item to your buyer is super important.
00:10Now comes the fun part.
00:11You might want to ask yourself are you going to plane on using the United States
00:14Postal Service or UPS or some other carrier?
00:19Let's make sure we know how we are going to get it there because it does matter.
00:22The Postal Service, also known as USPS, offers free priority mail supplies at usps.com.
00:29So be sure to stock up on them.
00:30Flat rate boxes can save you money on heavier items and here are some standard
00:34boxes that are available from usps.com.
00:38When shipping with standard cardboard boxes, compare prices and sizes and
00:42be sure to buy boxes that aren't way too big that might end up increasing
00:45the shipping costs.
00:47For heavy items, durable boxes are important and some boxes have higher
00:51strengths than others.
00:52Here is an example of a multi-depth cardboard box that can be adjusted to
00:56multiple sizes, so you don't have to stock so many different sizes and you
01:00can use less packaging.
01:03Be sure to properly wrap the item in bubble wrap if it's fragile.
01:06Double boxing is recommended for glassware to give that added measure of
01:10protection against breakage.
01:11A mailing tube can be used for sending paper item such as posters or large photos.
01:17A padded envelope would be ideal for sending smaller, non-breakable items.
01:21Specialty packaging can be used to mail items such as photographs, CDs, DVDs, a
01:27vinyl record or a magazine.
01:29It's important to use as little packaging as possible in order to keep the
01:33shipping cost low for your buyer.
01:35Make sure that you use foam peanuts as void fill so that there is little or no
01:39movement during shipping.
01:41Mobilizing the item is one key ingredient to ensuring that it won't shift
01:44around and get broken.
01:47Using eBay's built-in shipping tool you can send items through UPS or USPS and
01:52print your own labels.
01:54UPS Ground Service is very popular but for light items, you should consider
01:58using USPS because USPS is faster across long distances and the cost is lower
02:04when you are only sending items that weigh a few pounds or less.
02:07International shipping isn't that complicated and you'll have different options
02:11for sending items overseas.
02:13Express Mail is ideal for expensive and signature required items and is
02:17super-fast, but it's more pricy.
02:20Priority Mail is also pretty fast and it balances low cost with speed.
02:24There are flat rate boxes and those flat rate shipping services available for
02:28both international and domestic shipments.
02:32First-class mail international is available for packages that are four pounds and under.
02:36it's very economical for light, cheaper items and is an outstanding value
02:40with fast delivery.
02:42Media mail is cheap, but slow, and it's used for books, recording,
02:46videotapes, CDs and DVDs.
02:49Be sure to buy insurance when it matters.
02:51More expensive items need it, but cheap light items don't. PayPal shipping labels
02:56are automated and fairly easy for small volume sellers.
03:00Bigger volume sellers need to use software or it will be a
03:03time-consuming experience.
03:06WorldShip is a software program that UPS provides for free.
03:09Click-N-Ship is available on USPS.com, or you can use online meters such as
03:15endicia.com, stamps.com and others for quick online or software based shipping.
03:21Buy high quality tape when you purchase packaging tape because it's what's
03:25keeping the box sealed.
03:27When everything is packed up, you'll need to give the boxes to the carrier.
03:30Both UPS and USPS offer pick-up services for a fee or you can drop the parcels
03:35off the nearest UPS store or a local post office.
03:39Getting that important item to your buyer in one piece is very important and you
03:43will learn over time how to best balance out the art of packing securely and
03:47shipping economically for your buyers.
03:49For example, you wouldn't opt for Express Mail to ship out a $10 CD, but you
03:53might use it for a diamond ring.
03:56Shipping media mail sounds great and it's cheap but an eager buyer might be
04:00willing to pay a little extra for Priority Mail to get that latest video game.
04:04Think through how you would want to receive a purchase if you were buying online
04:08and tailor the shipping option so that your buyers get the same level of secure
04:12packaging and affordable shipping that you would expect to receive.

Leaving feedback
00:00Feedback is the heart of the eBay system and giving and receiving feedback helps
00:05other eBay members to receive a valuable impression about you, your business
00:09dealings, ethics, and methods.
00:11The goal here is to always receive positive feedback from your buyers and
00:15to give it as well.
00:16But sometimes things don't always go well and feedback is the way that buyers
00:20and sellers rate each other.
00:22Here's an example of a Feedback profile for an actual seller on eBay and you
00:26will scroll through and you will see all kinds of very positive feedback
00:30comments left by buyer.
00:32Sometimes the buyer doesn't always leave a positive feedback.
00:35In this case, we have a buyer that left a Neutral feedback and the seller
00:39actually did a follow up comment on it to show that the positive action would be
00:43available if they contacted to the seller, the problem can be resolved.
00:46So it's important to follow up on all your comments when you receive something
00:50like a negative or a neutral feedback.
00:53Sellers can not leave Negative feedback for buyers, but they can leave Positive
00:58feedback for their buyers, and buyers can leave a Positive, a Neutral, or a
01:02Negative feedback for the seller.
01:04So the goal is to make sure that all your feedbacks from your buyers are positive.
01:09You can leave feedback in a variety of ways.
01:11I am going to walk you through a few of the different ways to leave feedback for your listings.
01:15First of all, we are at the eBay homepage and if you scroll to the bottom of the
01:19page, you'll find the Site Map under the Tools section.
01:23Over here on the right-hand side you will see the Feedback Forum and then you'll
01:27see a link that offers an opportunity to Leave Feedback and if you click on
01:31that, you can leave feedback for every single transaction you have pending that
01:35you did not yet leave feedback for.
01:37These are the sold items where you have not yet left the feedback comment.
01:40That's one way to go ahead and enter a feedback comment for your buyer.
01:45Another way would be to use My eBay.
01:48If you go to My eBay and you go to items that you have sold, you can scroll down
01:51here, and you take a look at the items that you have sold on eBay.
01:54If you look at the items that have actually sold you have the ability to click
01:58More actions, and then you can click Leave Feedback.
02:02You will be taken to the Feedback page that I just showed you so you can leave a
02:05feedback comment for your buyer.
02:07Now there is another way for you to leave feedback which is to go to the eBay Listing page.
02:12So if you have sold an item and you are on the Listing page, there's always
02:16going to be a Leave Feedback option there as well and then you can scroll down
02:19and we are going to actually leave the feedback comment now, because I have
02:22showed you a couple of there for ways to find it.
02:24I am going to leave a Positive comment for this buyer.
02:28So once you've left your comment, you can go ahead and click on the Leave
02:31Feedback option and then what will happen is you will be able to go over to the
02:36feedback score for that buyer and you can take a look at the feedback you've
02:39left for him/her and you can see the comment that I have left here.
02:43This is a repeat purchase from Tom.
02:45He has purchased items from me in the past.
02:47There are some other feedback options and if you want you can leave some follow
02:51up comments and the way you do that is you can go to the Site Map, you can
02:55scroll down here, and you can go ahead and do Follow Up comments on Feedback
03:00you've left for people.
03:01So if you've left a comment for someone and you want to add something to that
03:05and you feel like you need to do a followup comment, you can click Follow Up and
03:09you can add some additional comments here.
03:11Tom is really the best buyer I have ever done business with.
03:20Then Leave a Follow-up Comment.
03:21Once you've done that you can click on here and see the profile for Tom and see
03:25the follow-up comments you have left for him.
03:28It's also a good idea to leave follow up comments when you have receive
03:31neutral or negative feedback so that you can let other buyers on eBay know
03:35you've taken a proactive step in resolving any issues that you may have had
03:40with that particular buyer.
03:42So that's really all there is to it.
03:43By leaving feedback for your buyer you are showing your appreciation for them.
03:47In practice, it is far more important for a seller to receive favorable rating
03:51since the buyer can bid on anyone's listing, but a seller depends on his/her
03:55feedback as a calling card for buyers to see how well they treat their other
03:59buyers before those buyers might make a decision to purchase with you.
04:04Protecting your feedback with great service and honorable business dealings
04:08will improve your eBay business and let your sales blossom to the best that they can be.

Relisting an auction
00:00After you've had some successful sales on eBay and if you have multiples of the
00:04same item or have similar items you would like to sell, but you don't want to
00:08have to go through the entire listing process all over again, you can use the
00:13features offered on eBay for relisting or listing similar merchandise.
00:17This might come in handy if you are selling clothing and you have the same
00:20t-shirt for sale in various sizes and you'd like to quickly list all the sizes.
00:25eBay also offers size options within an individual listings so your buyers can
00:30choose a size within one listing,.
00:32But if perhaps you have the same t- shirt with different logos or prints and you
00:36want to quickly list similar items, you can do that by essentially cloning
00:40another past listing.
00:42First thing you want to do is go to My eBay, then go down to the Selling link.
00:47You'll see over here a series of links that are available under selling.
00:51You have items that are Scheduled, Active, Sold, and Unsold.
00:56You can click on a Scheduled listing and you can scroll down and you can see
01:01here I have an item that Scheduled to list and I can click under More actions.
01:05Then I can say Sell Similar if I want to sell a similar item.
01:08So if for example I wanted to list another Morgan Dollar in the same exact vein,
01:14but I want to change some information about that dollar I could do that.
01:17I can change this to 1886 Morgan Dollar and probably the Grading is different.
01:24So I want to change that.
01:27Then I want to change some information on the listing and it has a
01:32different Certificate Number.
01:40Then I want to go ahead and change the additional information in the
01:43listing description.
01:45So I didn't have to type all that all over again, but I can go ahead and click Continue.
01:52Then I can quickly list the same exact dollar with a different year on it, but
01:56basically everything else is the same.
01:57That was pretty quick and easy and I didn't have to type in all the information,
02:01I just changed a few key elements of the listing.
02:04Let's go back to the Selling tab on My eBay, then go over to an Active listings.
02:10So we have two Active listings here on eBay and I can scroll down and look at them.
02:13Then I click under More actions and then I Sell similar.
02:18Now you have to be careful, because eBay has a policy against listing duplicate
02:22items, meaning items that are exactly the same.
02:24So you need to make some changes to the Title here, because this is an exact
02:28item I've already listed.
02:29The Universal Appliance Cable.
02:31So you can put some different brand names in the title or make some changes to it.
02:36Once you have gone ahead and made the revisions that you need to make, then you
02:39can scroll down and I am going to go ahead and launch this listing.
02:49Let's say I want to list this, but I want to take some of the features off of the listing.
02:52I don't pay for all these additional enhancements.
02:54I can go back and take a few of the enhancements off, make some revisions, and
02:58then I can scroll down and I go ahead and list the item. There you go.
03:03You can see that it's there and I can go ahead and Track that item in My
03:06eBay and there your are.
03:09There is the item that was listed similarly.
03:11Now there is one more thing we can do if you want to scroll over here to the Sold items.
03:16You can relist a Sold item.
03:18So if you have more than one of the same item like in this case I have a Cowboy
03:22Belt and I want to go ahead and relist that Cowboy Belt.
03:26Because I have a couple of them in stock I can go ahead and click on the Relist
03:30option and that takes me right to the confirmation page.
03:32I don't get any options to add it.
03:34I go directly to the confirmation page and I click List.
03:37Then I can go ahead and see it on eBay. There you go!
03:42It's now active and listed on eBay.
03:44Then I can click Track in My eBay again, go back to where I was before and there
03:48is one more way to relist.
03:50You can go here under Unsold items and any item that did not successfully sell
03:55on eBay, you can quickly relist that item.
03:57So if you have an item that you would like to relist like this Meat Tenderizer,
04:01I can go ahead and click under More actions and click Relist.
04:04Now since this didn't sell the first time around I might want to make
04:07some revisions to it.
04:08So what I will do is instead of just listing it as it is I am going to go ahead
04:12and make some edits to this listing.
04:14To go ahead and change the pricing to make sure that it does sell this time around.
04:18So I'll go ahead and Edit the listing.
04:19I will scroll down to the price section and you'll see here that I
04:24originally ask for $49.
04:25I am going to really drop the price down so that I make sure that this one
04:29sells this time around.
04:30Then I scroll down and click Continue and then I List it.
04:37Hopefully, with the greatly reduced price this will sell this time around.
04:41So by having automation tools and being able to manage and relist items
04:45quickly and easily, you'll be putting up more products and selling more
04:49inventory for your business.
04:50You will cut down the amount of time you spend and you work with eBay more efficiently.

Opening a Store
00:01Let's walk through the process of opening an eBay store and follow the simple
00:04steps to get a basic store into motion.
00:07Bear in mind that there are infinite numbers of ways you can customize your
00:11store once you open it.
00:13We'll be creating a basic store where you can start to create store listings and manage them.
00:19To set up a store first we are going to go to the Stores portal on eBay and you
00:22can find that in a variety of ways, but the quick way would be to go to the
00:25bottom of the page and click on the link Stores.
00:28Here you'll see a whole bunch of resources about eBay stores.
00:32You can search for a store by name, you can search for store items, you can find
00:37your favorite sellers here, and look for items in just the same way that you
00:40would search on eBay.
00:41There are two links here.
00:43One is Opening a Store and Managing a store and it's exactly what it sounds like.
00:47You can open an eBay store and manage your current store, and I am going
00:49to click Open a Store.
00:51You can review all the benefits of a store here and then once you've learned
00:55more about the stores, if you've made the decision to leap into opening a store
00:59you can click Subscribe now.
01:01eBay will walk you through the process of registering your store subscription.
01:05We are going to open a basic store for 15.95/month.
01:08There are a Premium stores and Anchor stores that have additional benefits and
01:12you can review those benefits online.
01:15You can also choose a store name.
01:17In this case, I am going to use the store name christopherscabinet because
01:21naming my store it needs to be part of the URL of my store.
01:25So when I name it I want to name it something that's similar to the name of the
01:28company that I'll be running on my eBay storefront.
01:31Then I'll click Continue.
01:32Then I can choose these additional free services.
01:35eBay adds a free subscription to selling manager, which is kind of like putting
01:39my eBay on a turbo charger.
01:41It gives you some extra features on My eBay and also Sales Reports Plus, which is
01:46a great analytics tool for providing additional detail about your sales and
01:51analyzing your sales by category and formats and things like that.
01:55So, I am going to go ahead and take the free subscription.
01:57Once I've gone ahead and accepted the user agreement, I can go ahead and
02:02subscribe to my store.
02:03It tells me it's going to be $15.95 and then the store is done.
02:08I've actually created my store and I get a store URL right here where I can
02:12go and look at my store, and I am going to go ahead and open my store up in a new tab.
02:15The store is currently being created by eBay and in a few minutes it
02:19should start showing up.
02:20Then I can go and learn more about how to set up my store, how to use Selling
02:24Manager and Sales Reports Plus.
02:26So I am going to go ahead and click on the Start Quick Store Setup.
02:30Here, eBay provide some handy resources to set up a store and provide some
02:36themes that you can use.
02:37I can changes the theme color for my store.
02:40I can choose different color schemes that they offer.
02:43I like green. I like navy.
02:44So I am going to actually pick green as my favorite color and change my store that way.
02:50I can edit my store description, which I can click here.
02:53Now I went ahead and typed up a description ahead of time.
02:56So here is my eBay store description and I am going to go ahead and copy and
02:59paste that into my description here on eBay.
03:02This is like a calling card.
03:03It tells people little bit about yourself when you are developing a brand on eBay.
03:08Branding is important. You want to let people know about your company and what
03:11your core values are and what you are offering.
03:14You can edit the item listing display.
03:16So how you list items in your store, it can either be in a List View or you can
03:19use Picture Galleries and you also can sort them by a variety of different
03:23methods whether it would be by price or whether it's ending soonest.
03:27But I generally like to show people items that are newly listed first.
03:31So I'll go ahead and choose that.
03:33Then there are promotional boxes that you can use to promote your listings
03:37within your eBay listings and on your eBays you can use to cross-promote items
03:41that are in your eBay store.
03:42Here I am choosing four promotional boxes and you can see here that the
03:46promotional boxes will show newly listed items, items that are ending soonest,
03:50shipping and payment, and newsletter sign-ups.
03:53There are email newsletters that come free with your store where you can manage
03:56mailing list with your buyers on an eBay store.
03:59Then there is store marketing.
04:00You can have a custom listing frame and what that means is if you click Preview
04:05here, you can see that your custom listing frame is something that appears on
04:09every listing on eBay and I'll go ahead and go back to look at how to edit that.
04:13In your custom listing frame, you can see that your listing frame can go wrap
04:17around the top of your listings.
04:19It can go up to the side as well, or it can just be a header, or you can select
04:22no custom listing frame.
04:25I'll go ahead and choose the one that's in the middle here, which is going a
04:27header at the top of my listings.
04:30Then you can links to your eBay store listing that allow buyers to subscribe
04:34to your newsletter.
04:35So you'll see the ability for buyers to subscribe to newsletters and you'll see
04:38that on your eBay listings as well.
04:41So on your eBay store buyers can add themselves to your mailing list.
04:44So you can preview the setting that you've created and take a look at them and
04:48see what your store is going to look like.
04:49Here is actually a sample of my store. Wow!
04:52I did that in just a few minutes.
04:54Then I can go ahead and save the settings that I've created.
04:58Now once your store is setup, you can manage your store.
05:01You may remember when we went to the Store portal we had the ability to go
05:05ahead and mange our store and that brings us to this store right here, which is Manage your store.
05:09You'll see a bunch of different features on here.
05:11We'll be talking about these in a later movie, but you can go ahead and edit the
05:15look and feel of your store and customize it the way you want it using your
05:19store design features.
05:20By offering all these customizable methods of adjusting your store, eBay gives
05:25you the opportunity to brand yourself and give you a custom look and feel for
05:29your virtual storefront.
05:31Now your store URL is always here. You can see that on eBay and you may remember
05:35a few minutes it wasn't active, but now eBay store is active and showing up.
05:39All of the listings that we already had in our eBay user account now show up
05:44in our store and people can go to our storefront and type in searches and things like that.
05:49You'll see that company name here, christopher'scabinet.
05:51You can always change that if you want to later.
05:54You'll see how we've set up the store with the green template.
05:57You can sign up for the newsletter here,. Yu can see all the different
05:59options that we'd created.
06:01If you want to change the look and feel of the store, you can do that at any
06:04time and if you want to hire professional graphics designer to create some
06:07store graphics you can certainly do that or keep the basic template that eBay offers you.
06:12Stores are a great way to market yourself and you are also going to want to
06:15consider possibly getting a dedicated URL.
06:18Your store URL is a way for buyers to find you, but by having a separate domain
06:23name that would forward to your eBay store you can also make it easier for
06:27people to locate your listings on eBay.
06:30So now you see how pretty darn easy it is to create a store on eBay.
06:34Now, you have to stock it up with great items for your buyers to find
06:37and purchase from you.
06:38You'll able to do email marketing for your store with the email marketing
06:41tools eBay provides.
06:43You can manage hundred or thousands of listings and you can brand your company
06:47to get the most interest from buyers on eBay.

Building and branding your Store
00:01We're going to talk about building and branding your eBay store and building a
00:05brand on eBay just like building a brand in a brick and mortar business is a
00:08great way to encourage recognition for what you're selling, for what you're
00:13doing on an eBay store.
00:15So let me walk you through a few steps here on branding yourself on eBay.
00:19I've taken the time to create a logo and I'm going to put my stores logo up and
00:22that's something I'll show you how to do.
00:24But I also walk you through a few things that you can do with your eBay store.
00:28We'll go to Manage our Store this time and we're going to manage our eBay store.
00:32On the top here you'll see that eBay stores recommends things when you open
00:36your eBay store. In the beginning, you won't see any recommendations, but as
00:40time goes on, eBay will start making recommendations to you as to how to build
00:44and brand yourself.
00:45We'll click over here on Display Settings and I want to take you through a few steps here.
00:49The first thing I want to do is change my name on the store. You can see here
00:53the store name is christopherscabinet, and I'm going to go ahead and put
00:57Christopher's Cabinet and then we already have a store description that I've a
01:02taken the time to put in, and then I want to upload a custom logo.
01:05Now you can use one of eBay's pre-made logos or you can upload your own and I
01:10actually have a logo that I made and I put it on the computer here.
01:14So I'll go in and I'll take a look at the custom logo that I made, which is
01:18right here in my folder for Christopher's Cabinet and I'll upload it. There we go.
01:24Now the logo has to be exactly 310 pixels by 90 pixels in order for it to look perfect.
01:31If you don't make it that size, eBay will readjust it and it might look a little
01:35distorted, and that's fine.
01:36But if you know how to use Photoshop or an editing tool, you can edit the logo down
01:40to 310x90. Then we click Save.
01:44Now I've taken a step to brand myself and Christopher's Cabinet now has a nifty
01:48little logo on it and that's the first step towards helping build instant
01:52recognition for what my brand looks like on eBay.
01:55Then we can change color schemes and we can edit our color scheme and our theme
01:59on eBay, and eBay provides you with a whole set of adjustments that you can make with colors.
02:05So I'm going to change my colors around a little bit, something may be a little
02:08more earthy. I'll put a little brown in there and I might change this color to
02:13something a little lighter but maybe not so green. Put an accent color in.
02:17So the point is that you that you can change the color scheme that you've on
02:20eBay to sort of fit your personality, and each section of eBay store you can
02:25adjust the colors and then you can ahead and click Save and you can experiment
02:29all you want. You can actually change these colors as many times as you want,
02:33and let's take a quick peek at what it looks like with the color changes.
02:37You see? So you've unlimited flexibility in changing your store and if you look into
02:40an actual eBay listing, you can see that your store branding is there as well.
02:44So we're going to take a moment to make some adjustments to the branding here on our eBay store.
02:49We're going to go back to managing our store display settings and we're going to
02:53make some adjustments to the way that the store branding that appears in
02:57listings and on the store.
02:59I'll click Change here and it allows us to modify the way the different
03:03facets of the store looks, such as atore categories. These are custom
03:07categories on your store.
03:09And you can learn a little bit more about these display settings through
03:13studying other stories on eBay.
03:14I actually like to use the eBay categories themselves as the categories in my store,
03:19and then we have the ability to adjust these different appearances of
03:23things, such as promotional boxes and buyer display options and then we can save them.
03:28You can make some adjustments to other parts of your eBay store such as the store header.
03:32We can include additional information in our header if we want to, so if you
03:36are a wizard with HTML, you can include a custom header build with HTML in your eBay store header.
03:42Or you can adjust the eBay header. If you've a premium store subscription,
03:46you can minimize the top of the eBay page so that your store branding is the most
03:51prominent in the pages.
03:55And there are other features that you can change too. You can change the item
03:58display settings in the way that the listing are presented. You can make them in
04:02the List View or Gallery View, as we talked about before, and change the sort
04:05order and you can also look at things such as for products that have
04:09compatibility information, such as car parts.
04:12You can go ahead and have that show up in your store's subtitle as well.
04:16So there are a lot of little very small nuances to an eBay store.
04:20There is a thing called store categories. These are custom categories that you
04:23can create for your stores.
04:25So let's say have a variety of different things that I sell in my store, and I
04:28want to add categories for those, I can create custom category. So I can put
04:32things like Curios, I might put things in here like Bears and Stuffed Animals.
04:40I might put China. I might put Antiques.
04:43The point is that the custom categories allow buyers to browse around in your
04:47store and you can add the custom category at the time you list an item.
04:50You can also manage the names or you can delete things if you wanted to remove
04:55the category, you can go ahead and rename it or delete it very easily.
04:59And the custom categories help you to better organize and manage your listings
05:02so that buyers can have a better and faster buying experience.
05:06Then we have custom pages. So let's say you've some information about your
05:09business that you like to share with other people, things like terms and
05:12conditions or information about yourself or about the products that you sell,
05:17frequently asked questions or help pages.
05:20You can create custom pages on your eBay store, and those custom pages can be
05:24either promotional boxes or item showcases or just basic information about your business.
05:30You can create these pages very quickly and easily using the eBay templates.
05:34Once you do create a page, you can fill in that title for the title for the page
05:38and this could be FAQs for example.
05:41And you can indicate whether or not you show the navigation bar, which that blue
05:44navigation that shows up on the page when you've any eBay store, and you can go
05:49ahead and click Continue.
05:50Now you'll see a custom page that you can then edit, if you want to. You can go
05:54ahead and publish that page and that custom page is something that you can use
05:58to share information with your buyers.
06:00If you want to remove pages or edit them, you can do that at any time using
06:04these tools right here.
06:05There are also things here that you'll see at the bottom of the left-hand menu
06:09called Logos and Branding and you can customize the auction and emails,
06:15the emails that are sent to buyers at the end of auction and indicate if you want
06:18eBay to include your logo there.
06:20I recommend it. You can include automatic messages to your buyers and you can
06:25include the logo in there.
06:26So what I'm going to do is check here to Include my store logo in my emails.
06:30That way whenever somebody gets an email from me, it shows my company branding.
06:34So you can change the eBay preferences to include your logo with any of the
06:39custom messages you send out, and also your emails to your buyers as well.
06:43So in addition to that there are all kinds of various ways to customize eBay.
06:49You can also customize the invoices that are sent to your buyers at the end of a
06:52listing, and you can include your branding there too.
06:56So if I wanted to include this on my invoice, this logo, I can check this box
07:00here, put a custom message here as well, and I click Save.
07:04Any of these branding exercises were showing a great ways to put your name out
07:09there and showcase your new eBay stores brand.
07:12You can see that eBay is a great way to sell and move lots more merchandise and
07:16by having an eBay store, you'll be able to list in large volumes in bulk and
07:21you'll pay lower eBay fees and you'll give people a place to come back time and
07:25time again to see whatever interesting products you're offering for sale.

Managing your listings
00:01You remember how easy it is to see and manage all your eBay listings and their
00:05statuses with My eBay.
00:07With the store subscription you get a free tool called Selling Manager and
00:11with the featured or Anchor Store and even more enhanced tool called Selling Manager Pro.
00:16Here is how you get there. Selling Manager and Selling Manager Pro replaces the
00:21Selling link on my eBay.
00:23So instead of seeing the normal Selling link, you'll see a Selling Manager link.
00:28In the Selling Manager page, you'll get an enhanced view of your eBay sales and
00:33you'll get a seller dashboard to manage your listings, but with much more
00:36enhanced information and management tools.
00:39What's quite a bit different is that the At a glance section provides you with a
00:44graphical chart of your sales.
00:46So you see some sales progress and you can chart it out and you can see it.
00:49You can also edit the views here, if you want to add colors or change the
00:53way that these little sections of selling manager appear. You can change their ordering.
00:58You get the normal Alerts & To Do's that you would get in my eBay.
01:02You also get additional information about Listing Activities and this is more
01:06of a high-level view of all the activities that are going on with your eBay account.
01:10And you can see listings that are in different formats and you can see items
01:14that have sold as well as scheduled listings.
01:17And you also get this link here on the right-hand side showing sold items within
01:21the last 90 days, those which are awaiting payment, items that can be combined.
01:25So if somebody has bought multiple items, you get an indicator about that here.
01:30Items that are waiting for shipping and items that are paid and have
01:33already been shipped.
01:34Also anything that might be in dispute in indicated in the Resolution Center,
01:38which helps you to manage any disputes that you might have with your buyers.
01:43You also see top performing categories as well here.
01:46And there are additional store management features here on the right-hand side
01:50that allows you to quickly go to sections of your eBay store and manage them.
01:54EBay's Selling Manager definitely is a tool that provides you with a much more
02:00enhanced version of managing through eBay.
02:03With your feature and anchor store you also have the ability to manage inventory as well.
02:07And managing your store listings, it's very much just like using My eBay, but
02:11you'll go under a deeper understanding of your sales and your progress and
02:14you'll get a better handle on your eBay store business.

Promoting your Store
00:01eBay is a great place in itself to promote listings.
00:03Millions of buyers search for products everyday here.
00:07There are great ways that an eBay store can be set up to promote your listings
00:11to other places on the Internet as well and get more visibility, plus I have
00:15some suggestions to get your eBay store out there and promote yourself.
00:19Let's see a few simple ways you can promote your store.
00:22First, let's go to My eBay and here you'll see down on the right-hand side how
00:27to manage your eBay store.
00:29The first link is Email Marketing and I'm going to open in new tab and take a
00:33look at email marketing.
00:34The first step that happens in email marketing is you have to collect the list
00:38of people to email to, and if you look at an eBay listing, I'm going to switch
00:43tabs here and show you one of my eBay listings.
00:45You'll see in your store, you have a place where prospective buyers or actual
00:49buyers can sign up for a newsletter.
00:51When they click here, they can subscribe to your email marketing.
00:55If we go back to the Email Marketing tool, you can then create an email to send
00:59out to your prospective buyers and your actual buyers and you can indicate what
01:03type of email it is.
01:05You can also pick one of the many email templates eBay provides and you can go
01:09ahead and customize what they will receive.
01:12You can indicate exactly the number of subscribers who'll receive it and which
01:16list to send out to and you'll indicate how often to send these emails out, if
01:21you want to send it one time or multiple times.
01:24With this basic store subscription, we can send out 5,000 free emails a month.
01:28Any additional ones after that will be a cent each.
01:31You can put in a subject line and custom subject line up to 55 characters.
01:35You can go ahead and show your listing header in the email. That's the top part
01:38of your eBay listings. You'll see the store logo in your header.
01:41You can also enter your own custom HTML or you can use eBay's HTML editor and
01:47then you can go ahead and showcase listings.
01:49You can put listings in the email itself to advertise and showcase them.
01:53You can create an item list. Show your eBay feedback if you'd like to showcase
01:58your positive feedback from other members on eBay.
02:00Over here on the right-hand side, you'll see a little green box around
02:03the section of the email that shows you what it's going to look like when you preview it.
02:08Then you click Preview & Continue.
02:11You'll see what the email will look like before it's sent out to users and
02:14they will have a nice little customized email that will come from eBay and be sent out to them.
02:20So that's how you can use email marketing.
02:22I'm going to go ahead and show you the next marketing tool, which is Markdown Manager.
02:27You can use Markdown Manager to promote listings in your store.
02:30Using Markdown Manager, you can create a sale on eBay with markdown Manager.
02:34You give your sale a title such as 50% off or 25% off or something like that.
02:40The title isn't seen by anybody but you, and then you can schedule your sale.
02:44So if you're going to have a sell for let's say a week or few days, you
02:48can schedule your sale.
02:49So I'm going to schedule my sale as well.
02:51And then you can mark down a percentage off your current price.
02:55You can go ahead and set discounts off the original price by a set amount
02:58like, let's say $5.
03:00I'm going to go ahead and put my discount at 25%. Or you can offer free shipping
03:05on your items or you can mark down specific categories.
03:08I'm going to go ahead and mark down all my active fixed price listings and I'm
03:12going to notify everyone on my general mailing list and create the sale.
03:16Once I've done that, eBay indicates that the sale will become active shortly
03:20and then anybody who goes to one of my listings will see that the listing is marked off 25%.
03:25So that's how you use Markdown Manager.
03:27Now, I'm going to take a deeper look into managing my store and promoting it.
03:31Over here, you'll see some additional feature such as search engine keyword marketing.
03:37You'll also see RSS feeds down here and there is a few other tools as well.
03:41Let me show you the search engine keywords.
03:44Every search engine keywords off of a webpage.
03:47So there is like keywords and web pages that search engines pick up and you can
03:51customize the keywords that are on your individual pages.
03:54So if I sell specific things such as Collectables or Electronics, what I can
04:00do is to customize the keywords or the metadata that's in my actual eBay
04:04Store, so that when search engines take a look at my eBay Store pages, they're
04:09indexing these keywords and presenting these pages when somebody makes a
04:13relevant search online.
04:14Now, let's take a look at the RSS deeds.
04:19RSS feeds send information about my eBay store listings to third-party
04:23search engines and one of the most common ones is Google Product Search or Google Shopping.
04:28Anytime somebody goes to a search portal and takes a look at a specific keyword
04:34and types it in, they'll be able to pick up my listings on my eBay Store and be
04:37taken to my eBay Store where they can possibly purchase my item.
04:41So by default, RSS feeds are enabled on an eBay store.
04:45You can also turn them off, but it's important to know that this feature is
04:48there and it is something that brings more buyers to your eBay store.
04:52The last thing I want to show you is the promotional flyer.
04:55You can create a promotional flyer that you can use to put in boxes when you
04:58ship items out and eBay gives you all kinds of customization.
05:02You can enter your own text in the promotional flyer.
05:04"Thank you for buying from me, I really appreciate your purchase."
05:08You can go through and set up all this customization and put some promotional
05:11boxes on there, and indicate that you have other great items for sale.
05:16You can talk about your payment methods and things like that.
05:19When you preview the flyer, it's something that you can print out on a color
05:22printer or you could use a black and white printer and you can print out
05:25this custom flyer and include it in the packages when you ship them out to your customers.
05:30The possibilities for promoting your eBay store are only limited by your imagination.
05:35There are tons of ways to customize your store and promote it.
05:38We've discussed a few of the most popular ones, but providing a quality look
05:42and feel will go a long way to encouraging business, and the RSS feeds that are
05:46there on the eBay store will definitely get you more noticed in search engines
05:50such as Google where store feeds will appear in the Google Shopping engine search.
05:54Use these tools to your advantage and make your eBay store shine and you'll
05:58sell more product.
