Photoshop Live and The InDesign Conference Wrap-up

This week, eight lynda.com authors and other talented industry speakers gathered in Washington DC for the MOGO Media conferences Photoshop Live (November 2nd & 3rd) and The InDesign Conference (November 4th & 6th).

Mordy Golding, Jan Kabili, Lesa Snider, Ted LoCascio, Michael Ninness, Derrick Story, Anne-Marie Concepcion, and Michael Murphy were all in fine form teaching an eager audience at the U.S. Naval Heritage Center, located just off the Mall in downtown DC. If you were in attendance, you know this was an excellent opportunity to get to sit and listen to some inspiring instruction, go on an evening Photo Walk with Derrick Story, and eat pizza while Michael Ninness gave an awesome three and a half hour (by demand!) session on InDesign. If you missed this show, be sure to check out other MOGO conferences and seminars.

Summer fun (and learning) with lynda.com authors

megan-head-glasses3

Hey lynda.com peeps! In case you are thinking about your summer vacations now, you might be interested in planning them around some SWEET conferences, workshops and tradeshows, where you can see the lynda.com authors you know and love in person. Here are a few you might want to check out:

Come and see Susan Cline (a new lynda.com author) who is currently working on a handful of highly anticipated Google Apps courses for us. She will be giving a workshop at The International Symposium on Emerging Technologies in Online Education on June 17th-19th in beautiful San Francisco, CA.

After Effects rock stars Chris & Trish Meyer, and Quark guru Jay Nelson will be at the HOW Conference in the always-fun Austin, TX from June 24th-June 27th.

What better way to end your summer fun than with Flash on the Beach in Brighton UK where you can see Craig Swann, Rich Shupe, Hillman Curtis, Mike Chambers andLee Brimlow! This conference is from September 20-23rd and I wish I could go with you. So many authors in such a cool location!

Have fun learning and traveling this summer!

Jay Nelson recording QuarkXpress 8

jay1

Jay Nelson spotted in the lynda.com recording booth, recording a new QuarkXpress 8 Essentials course!

Had a few chances to visit with Jay while he was out here recording, having traveled from Boulder, CO to overcast Ventura, CA. Jay is celebrating the 17th year and 201st edition of Design Tools Monthly, his newsletter about all things graphics.

Jay continues to use and recommend QuarkXPress as his favorite page layout tool. He’s especially excited to share some of the newest features, such as new intuitive ways to lay out pictures boxes by dragging, twisting and rotating, the sleek and fun new interface, the new fluidity of the pen tool, and item styles, where an item can be saved as a style and replicated easily throughout a design. He’ll also be showing how to create Flash (!) and web sites using Quark. The project is super ambitious, taking two full weeks to record, and covering more in one video course than what’s available elsewhere in any format!

Catch Jay at his How Design Conference session, or speaking at the Institute of Newspaper Technology conference. We’re proud to have Jay in the library – thanks, Jay!
