Monday Productivity Pointers: Setting up Find My iPhone

Using Find my iPhone on an iPad

It’s a scenario no one wants to think about—but it happens all the time: You lose your iPhone or it gets stolen. What do you do? Fortunately, a native iOS app called Find My iPhone can help you track its location as soon as you realize it’s missing.

Find My iPhone has to be activated on your phone before you can take advantage of it—and that’s what you’ll learn to do in this week’s first Monday Productivity Pointers video. You’ll need to open an iCloud account to use Find My iPhone, and if you haven’t already signed up, you can do that right from your iOS device in the iCloud section of the Settings app.

Find My iPhone is also handy technology for parents. The app works exactly the same way with your kids’ iPod device, and any other iOS device connected to your iCloud account. This makes it a fantastic method for keeping tabs on your child’s iPod touch; if it’s misplaced, you can remotely trigger it to make a sound—which just may lead you to your sofa cushions. The Find My iPhone app can also tell you the general location of your kids when they’re carrying the device.

The second Monday Productivity Pointers video this week will show you how to locate a lost phone once you’ve activated Find My iPhone. Learn to mark an iPhone as lost, find its general location, trigger it to play a sound, and as a last resort, even wipe your phone’s memory, apps, and settings remotely to protect your personal data.
