Our Design content manager Kristin Ellison takes on our 21-Day Drawing Challenge and lets you see the daily results.
Yesterday’s challenge was to draw in the Cubist style.
Von gave us the choice to draw one of the following: a snake in a tree, a man in a car, a vase with flowers, or a sea creature. Yep, another challenging challenge!
I chose to draw flowers in a vase and initially I found it difficult to break away from my tendency to try to render in realism.
To get over this, I grabbed a ballpoint pen—something I could not erase—and drew flowers over and over until they finally got to a deconstructed state.
I also got some Conté Crayons so I could experiment with a little color, as well as a Sharpie.
I will not lie: I’m not in love with my drawing. This, to me, is an example of not knowing when to stop. I was not enjoying it so I kept doing more with the color and it just got worse. Oh well—this is part of making art.
That said, it was a really interesting challenge and one I’ll try again.
