Our Design content manager Kristin Ellison takes on our 21-Day Drawing Challenge and lets you see the daily results.
Today Von gave us the choice to draw one of the following: bigfoot, your boss, a shark, a skull, a pelican, an evil space villain, or a horse.
I wanted to draw a shark because they have such a beautiful and elegant form. The problem is that I’m a little superstitious.
I live in Southern California and sometimes try my hand at surfing. Drawing a shark seemed to be inviting company—so I decided to draw a non-human-eating whale shark instead.
The first attempt was alright in terms of the body shape, but the mouth area came off looking like she had a 5 o’clock shadow. I needed to work on it a bit more and figure out how to make that part of her look right. It was really about the curve over the eye and horizontal nose line that curves down on the left.
I should give this one another go because it’s still in need of some love and reworking. As Von says, you have to keep trying stuff to see what works and what doesn’t.
