Creating a stone wall: Pixel Playground

Create a stone wall in Photoshop

Explore Pixel Playground at lynda.com.

This week Bert shows us how to create a stone wall using a variety of textures. He starts out by using the pen tool to draw in the pattern for the bricks. Next he uses the filter gallery to add a stone texture to the pattern for a sense of realism. From there he uses a custom brush to paint in weathering and colored texture and then uses another brush to add damage to the wall. Finally, with a unique layer effect he is able to paint and draw in shapes to virtually chip away at the wall. Check out this week’s video on lynda.com, and get started.

Picking up where he left off last week, Bert takes us through the steps to add details and a nice shine to the golden boat medallion. He begins by adding a second color to the stroke on a new layer, which adds depth to the design with the help of a layer effect. Next, he adds a label to the bottom of the medallion and applies a similar embossing effect. Finally, he paints in the shine to give a sense of realism to this piece. Join us next week for the third and final video of this project!
