I have two passions in my life: fishing and production.
Currently I'm working at Time Warner Cable South Bay as the producer and director of our weekly television talk show, Reach Out with Ben McCain, and my love of fishing has led me to start SportfishingonTV.com and Sportfishing Television, both airing in 4.2 million Time Warner Cable homes all over Los Angeles. At this point in my life, I feel so lucky to get paid to do what I love.
Up until last December, I had never spent money on any classes; everything I knew about editing I'd learned on my own. So what changed in December? I went to a show in L.A., DV Expo West, where I first saw lynda.com. That's when I realized that for $25 a month I could take as many courses in Final Cut Pro as I could squeeze in, so I decided to give it a shot. My month-to-month subscription led to me buying my own Power Mac G5 and Final Cut Pro Studio, and the rest is history.

Since then, my sport fishing show has really reaped the benefits of what I've learned on lynda.com. This year I submitted three episodes for Telly Awards, and all three of them won. I've also got a submission in for an Emmy, so I'll have to wait and see what happens with that. I'm sure all of these are going to help me with my ultimate goal of taking Sportfishing Television national.

For me, lynda.com has been great because I can jump on the site and learn whenever my busy schedule permits. The teaching styles are also fantastic. I would recommend lynda.com to anyone—in fact, one of my friends just signed up last night!
