UX Writer

At lynda.com, the UX Writer will work in close collaboration with our UX, Product, and Content teams. The UX Writer will own quality and consistency of experience for descriptive and actionable content across lynda.com products by writing and/or editing copy, helping to develop the experience-based copy that individuals use to understand how to get the most from a feature of lynda.com, and helping to envision what copy may be necessary for entirely new features and experiences.

Ideal candidates will have worked for a service-based online company helping to build and maintain clear and consistent copy across a product and understand the significance and impact of choosing the right words, even if it's just a few words on a smartphone screen, and know how to explain things simply and directly. This position reports to the Director of User Experience.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Edit existing copy to reflect an updated style and ensure that lynda.com is usable and enjoyable
  • Write clear, accurate, and concise copy for the web and our suite of mobile and tablet applications
  • Work directly with UX Designers and Product Managers to ensure that the user interface meets our standards and the needs of our members
  • Work closely with the UX and Design teams to create a cohesive message on lynda.com with graphics and copy to properly label and position our features, our mobile site experiences, button copy, error message copy, and more.
  • Collaborate with content owners to ensure compliance with editorial standards and best practices for our learning content.

Experience and qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional writing with a minimum of 2 years of experience working on web site communication and user experience content
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to document concepts and procedures for easy understanding by remote teams
  • Committed to taking a hands-on, proactive approach to learning about the product and its audience
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills along with strong attention to detail and follow-up
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word's editing and tracking capabilities inside and out
  • Be familiar with the Chicago Manual of Style, the Microsoft Manual for Technical Publications, and Apple Publications Style Guide
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines
  • Ability to interact effectively as a member of a team and work collaboratively
  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities
  • Ability to listen, learn, and adapt to the lynda.com writing style and voice                              

Mental requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to: solve practical problems and deal with variables; interpret and/or follow a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form; use basic concepts to solve business problems associated with the role; use and understand computer programs to analyze and solve business issues.

Physical requirements and work environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, to speak and hear, and to frequently use hands and arms to handle, feel, and to reach. Specific vision requirements of this job include the ability to see closely and adjust focus. The work environment is an office setting or home office and the noise in the work environment is usually quiet.
