You can record movies of your ZBrush sessions. This is a great way to watch how you work and also share some of your working methods with other users. To do this, you can use the controls in the Movie palette. So I'm going to expand this menu and put it over in the tray. I now have my female_v01 loaded on the canvas. This is something to experiment with. So in the Movie palette, you will find the controls that determine the type of movie that you are going to record. If I hit Record, it's going to record essentially what I'm doing in ZBrush while I'm doing it. If I record a Turntable, this will record essentially the model rotating around and that's the great way to create model reels for showing of some of your work.
TimeLapse record on regular time intervals, if it is going to be long session this is a great way to record a bit more efficiency. It is also a cool way to watch a model evolve over time. I can use these buttons to determine what's going to be recorded, whether it is going to be the canvas or the document when I see in this area or the Window which is the entire ZBrush Interface. And then of course these, will reduce the size of the movie which can also reduce the amount of space it takes upon your disk; Large is 100%, medium is half and this is a quarter.
There is a couple of modifiers you can add a logo, by default there is the ZBrush logo. This sets the position of the logo and the opacity, and this is the Title image that appears in the title page. We have two sliders to determine how long the title page is displayed in the movie - two seconds to FadeIn and two seconds to FadeOut at the end. And then I can add custom text, so I have typed female head sculpt. You can call it anything you want just by typing in this area and choose the font size. Once you have your settings the way you like them, you just hit record to start recording the movie. So as I'm working in here, maybe I will take the Move brush, start making large changes to the sculpture, change the character.
Okay, I can pause the movie and then play it back and see how it has recorded so far. You can see it is playing back at about twice the speed. Now the movie is going to stay in a buffer essentially and every time I record a movie, it's going to add to that original movie. So, if I start to record some more, it's going to add that new recording to everything that I have just recorded and it's going to keep doing this until I hit the Delete button which will delete everything that has been saved in the buffer. If we just want to record a single movie remember to delete anything that's already been recorded but if you want to do very simple form of editing you can just continually add to what you have recorded and then finally you can save the movie in the special ZMV format to your local disk or you can export it as a QucikTime and there are some basic compression controls when you export as well.
So, that's basics of recording a movie in the ZBrush Interface. It's, kind of, fun thing to do to is to watch yourself work you can see where you need improvement, what your habits are and also of course the things you do brilliantly.
