So if you have model that has a number of subtools as part of the model like the Demo Soldier. I have the DemoSoldier which is just one of the models that ships with ZBrush and it has a lot of subtools and I want to pose this model using the Transpose tool. So I'm going to mask all of the model except for the arm and I'm going to switch to Rotate, drag out the tool and create my rotation.
Well you can immediately see the problem, his glove and his little wrist band here and also parts of his armor are not moving with the part of model that I'm rotating using Transpose. To fix this you would have to go and pose your model and go in and then reposition each and every subtool, so that it matches the pose of the model. Well as you can imagine this takes a lot of time and is somewhat tedious. The solution of this problem is to use the Transpose Master Plugin. The Transpose Master Plugin is a free Plugin that is available from Pixologic. The easiest way to find the Plugin is to type in Transpose Master Plugin into Google and then go to ZbrushCentral. com using the Google link and you want to find the thread started by ryankingslien and on this thread you will find a link. If you click on this, download the plugin to your desktop and then you want to extract all the files in the zip folder into the Pixologic, Zbrush3, Zstartup, ZPlugs folder.
Once you to do that, as you can see I have both the Transpose Master and SubtoolMaster in this folder. You can just extract directly to that folder and you don't have to do anything else to those files. That's all you need to do and when you restart ZBrush in the Zplugin menu you will see Transpose Master. Let me undo the changes I made to my model here and let's take a look at how Transpose Master works in action. I'm going to go the Masking menu and I'm going to clear my mask. Now what I'm going to do is activate the Plugin. So I'm going to Press TPoseMesh to activate the plugin. So what does this plugin do? Well it actually makes a copy of your model. So when I press this it's going to make a copy of the soldier, you will see it actually working in action and this is known as the TPoseMesh.
So this is a single model made up of all the subtools of my other model and it's at the lowest resolution. So I can go through -- let's mask off his waist here. I want to hold Ctrl and Alt to unmask that part. I'm going to rotate to side and I'm in Edit mode, I'm going to choose Rotate. I'm going to make it bend form the waist, so I'm dragging this out, tied to the top here. Let me reposition the pivot here and then make a change to it. Let's make him bend backwards and maybe give him a little bit of twist. Let's Clear, mask one of his legs, invert the mask, I'm going to zoom in. I got a little bit of this foot there, so I'm going to hold Ctrl+ Alt to unmask any part of his foot. I will rotate to the side, hold the Shift key to snap to a side view as you rotate, drag from the pelvis down just below the shoe and rotate this foot.
Add a little bit more to the mask, select from the knee and rotate this. Let's try blurring that mask a little bit. Okay. This Soldier is part of a very unfortunate dance troupe. Let's clear the mask, now that I have him posed, I can go back to the Zpulgin menu and click on Tpose to SubT and what this does is it takes all the changes that I made to the TPoseMesh and transfers it back to my original Mesh.
Sometimes it takes a few seconds to do depending on how complicated the model is. Once I click it you will actually see it working in action. So it was going through there and making all the changes that I made to that and copying it to the original. Now I have my original posed and all of the subtools are still separated. I'm going to have to go through here and tweak the position of some of the subtools and maybe say make some changes with the sculpting brushes but it's still a lot easier and faster than trying to position each and every subtool by itself.
