Sometimes you can run into problems when you use the Transpose tool to rotate parts of a model while symmetry is activated. I'm going to demonstrate this on the demo soldier model. This is one of the models that comes with Zbrush and I've just hidden all of his subtools. So I just have the main tool here visible. I want to rotate to his head forward. So I'm going to rotate to a side view and I'm holding the Shift key while I rotate. I'm going to zoom in on the model and quickly draw a mask out.
So I'm masking off his head. I have the Lasso button activated, which allows me to make that free-form selection. In the Masking sub-palette to the Tool palette, I'm going to click Invert to invert the mask. And I have Symmetry activated, so I'm going to switch to the Rotate tool. This is the Rotate mode of the Transpose tool and drive this out here and just start rotating the model. Looks pretty good from the side. When I move to the front, you'll see my geometry is mangled here.
What is happening is since the Transpose tool was at an angle when I rotated, it rotated in on itself. Which is not what I want. To fix this, I press Ctrl+Z to undo a few times, rotate back to a side view, and just make sure that if you have symmetry activated when using the Transpose tool, and you want to rotate something like the head, make sure that you drag all way off the model. When you do that, it ensures that the Transpose tool is straight up and down. So from the front view, you can see it's straight up and down. When I go back to the side view, and I rotate, I should be safe.
Back to the front view again, and the geometry looks fine. So that's a common problem when using the Transpose tool with symmetry activated.
