The Transpose Manipulator is like a joint or a pivot point around which the deformation occurs. It's important to know how to place it so that the transposition happens predictably. Let's open up a SuperAverageMan to practice with. Go into one of the Transpose modes and draw a mask down the arms so that the edge of the mask is over the elbow. I just want to zoom in to make this easier to do. I am going to hold down Ctrl and click and drag. That's about on the elbow. ZBrush automatically makes a manipulator along with the mask, but it's not really where we want it to go.

ZBrush automatically makes a manipulator along with the mask, but it's not really where we want it to go.

You can move either end of it by clicking and dragging on these yellow circles. So when you move your mouse over them, they highlight, and so we know we can move this one here. Now, either end of this is going to be the pivot point for the movement, so we want to make sure that's right over the elbow. You could also move the entire manipulator at once with this yellow circle. I also want to take a look at this from above to make sure we have got it aligned properly. All right, this one is a little bit off. I want this to be more in the center of the joint.

And let's move this one a little bit more over the hand. So you may have noticed that there is also these extra red and white circles that appear when you move the mouse over them. These are the ones that actually make the movement and deform the mesh. These outer yellow ones simply position the manipulator. I'll show you more in the next movie how these work, but for now we just want to know how to position the manipulator. Every time you use the Transpose tools you'll probably be positioning the manipulator a lot, but it doesn't really accomplish anything until the next step.

In the next movie, I'll show you how the manipulator works with each of the Transpose modes.
