Frequently asked questions

Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about WordPress Essential Training.

Q: Where can I learn more about how to make a website?
A: Discover more on this topic by visiting how to make a website on lynda.com.
Q: This course was updated on 12/18/2012. What changed?
A: This update covers the latest release for WordPress, 3.5 or "Elvin." A brand new movie, "What's new in the December 2012 update?," addresses the four major changes in this update:  the new media manager for importing and organizing images, audio, and video; a new default theme named Twenty Twelve; support for high-resolution displays; and the removal of the Links manager. We also re-recorded the movies in Chapters 5 and 7 dealing with media handling.
Q: Can I have multiple WordPress sites on the same server?
A: You can run multiple WordPress sites on the same server in one of two ways:

1. Create a WordPress Network (previously "Multisite" or "WordPress MU")
2. Set up several individual WordPress installations with their own MySQL databases

They each have pros and cons. A Network is easier to manage and is just one install, but it is tricky to set up and can be extremely taxing on the server. Multiple individual WP installs are harder to manage (especially with updates), but firewall the content for each site.

For more info on WordPress Networks check out this Codex article and the lynda.com course Creating and Managing a Blog Network with WordPress.
