Learn how to use Word styles to help save time in creating consistent and well-designed documents. Author Mariann Siegert demonstrates how to create, apply, and modify styles, as well as how to format documents with styles. The course also covers generating tables of contents, building Quick Styles and style sets, and restricting styles in protected documents.
Style sets are great new feature that were introduced in Word 2007. Just as Microsoft comes with built-in styles, they went a step further and added 11 pre-built style sets, a feature where you can format or reformat your entire document with sets of styles with just one click. Click on the arrow next to Change Styles and then hover over Style Set. Here are a list of built-in styles that are shown. Hover your mouse over each and watch the magic happen.
This is Distinctive. You've got Elegant, Fancy, Formal, Manuscript, Modern, Newsprint, Perspective, Simple, Thatch, Traditional, and then you also have Word 2003 and Word 2010. The default is Word 2010. Let's select Fancy. Let's say you changed your mind; select Distinctive.
Change your mind again? Let's select Traditional. When a demonstrator first showed me this awesome feature, they failed to tell me that there was more magic than met the eye. He failed to mention what was going on behind the scenes in his sample document. Just as it's important to know the trick behind sawing someone in half before you try it, it's just as important-- well, okay, not just as important, but important nonetheless--to know what's happening behind the scenes, so you can make the magic happen in your documents.
We'll be taking a peek behind the curtain to see what's making this magic happen in the next movie. Everything we've learned so far about styles in previous movies will give you the starting foundation that we can build on for you to better understand how style sets work--therefore being able to utilize them to their fullest capacity-- and then we'll even build our own style sets.
