This course provides an introduction to the Windows Phone 8 platform and the basic tenets of the Modern UI design style, through the development of a basic tip calculator application. First, author Doug Winnie shows how to install and set up the Visual Studio tool to build your application. Next, learn how to use XAML to build a basic structure for your application's interface and customize its design with user- and system-defined styles and options. This user interface connects to application logic with a process called code-behind files, which are written in C#, one of the three languages available to build Windows Phone 8 applications.
