Lighting your subject

Now that we've got our green screen lit nice and evenly, we're ready to light our subject. So, starting with their position, the first thing we want to do is make sure that they aren't standing too close to the background. When subjects are too close to the background, they may cast shadows and ruin the effect. And in addition to shadows, there's also the issue of green spill light reflecting onto the subjects who are too close to the green screen. So as a general rule of thumb, you want to keep your subjects parallel or a little in front in the position of the lights that are aimed on your green screen. You may even want to use flags or black wrap to make sure that none of the background lighting spills on your subject. We generally want to set the key light and the film light for our subjects at about a 45 degree angle on either side.
