- Tip number three, learn to delegate. Another skill you need to master to manage your crew is the art of delegation. From my observation, learning how and when to delegate responsibility on set is one of the hardest lessons for filmmakers to learn. Not only does delegating save you immeasurable amounts of time and tedium, learning to delegate on a big project is vital to your sanity. So, one of the reason that we put all those things I mentioned before on paper, is so that we can easily share that information with other people who will then be enabled to act on it without having to ask us 10 more questions before they do so. Again, not delegating goes back to the idea that we have it all in our heads. So, if it's all in our heads, we're the only ones that can really communicate or execute it.
