Incorporating music into your project

Few things can help drive the emotion of an audience as much as music. It's easily one of the most fun parts of the process for me, because it's one of the last major layers of storytelling that I add to a project, and it really starts to take on its final form. Before I talk about choosing specific music though, I want to talk about a common problem that some freelancers create for themselves, and that's using copyrighted music. Now it's incredibly easy and tempting to just drop in that classic Beatles track or the instrumental interlude from the hot new Jay Z song but it's simply not something we can do when shooting a corporate project. The second you add copyrighted music to a video, it's called syncing, as in syncing the sound with the picture. And syncing requires a sync license, and as you may guess, sync licenses are not cheap, or even easy to obtain, for that matter.
