Creating a statement of work

Once you've had at least one meeting with your client and have come to an agreement on all the basics you'll want to draft a statement of work. The statement of work is essentially a business document that outlines the terms of your agreement as far as logistics, schedule, costs, production elements, all in detail, and all in writing. So the proposal or treatment is an outline of the creative content on screen, while the statement of work formally outlines everything that's going to happen off screen. The statement of work lists the resources and framework of how you're going to execute the vision that you put in the proposal. Specifically, the statement of work would include such details as shooting schedule, size of the crew, equipment to be used, locations listed by date, contact people, delivery items, preliminary budget, cost of any anticipated delivery items that are extra, client's obligations and review schedule, and the final deadline for delivery.
