Crafting the proposal
Once you've met with the client and decided on an approach, you can start to develop those ideas into a written proposal, which is basically a creative treatment of how you think you can meet their goal on video. The client proposal focuses on the video content, and the creative aspects of the production. What appears on-screen, the structure, style, and look of the piece. Is it going to be fast cuts, flashy music, TV style with a spunky narrator? Or, is it going to all be hand-held, unscripted verite doc style with quiet interludes? Will there be interviews, customer testimonials, do you want to shoot it in black and white, does it need animation? The answer of course to all these questions, is totally going to be determined by the goal, audience, time and resources that you have to work with, which are coincidentally all the things you already discussed in that initial client meeting.
