Now another fun way to incorporate backlight into your images to add some more pizzazz, is to shoot through translucent objects and subject matter. This will happen naturally in some shots, but if you make a conscious effort to look for opportunities to get in just the right camera position. To line up with a light source, you can make an ordinary shot look extraordinary. Sun light forming a natural gold glow through a brides veil, the funky play of light as it refracts through a icicle. Or just the soft glow of leaves or flower petals as the sun shines through them rather than just on them, can all make for some beautiful backlit compositions. Any backlit subject matter that allows some light to pass through is also a nice choice for a foreground object when shooting with a shallow depth of field. And when it comes to very translucent subjects like smoke and water, these will often only register on camera when they are lit form the back. Because they don't reflect light as much as…
