In this course, author George Maestri explains how to model and render 3D objects and scenes using Google SketchUp 8. The course covers the fundamentals of the application, from navigating the user interface, manipulating objects, and building basic shapes to importing objects from Google Earth, animating a scene, and modeling organic terrain using the Sandbox tools. The course also explores SketchUp Pro features, which are available as an upgrade. These include tools for creating dynamic components and adding interactivity, as well as sophisticated importing and exporting options for working with outside applications.
Now when you first load SketchUp, you will get a Splash Screen, and if you haven't ever loaded it before, it's going to ask you to choose a template. So if we go to the Choose Template option here, what it will ask you is how do you want to work; do you want to work in Feet and Inches, do you want to work in Meters, do you want a Simple Template, do you want to use Architectural Design, and so on. So, all of these templates can be selected when you start SketchUp. Now when you first start SketchUp, I would suggest just going with the default, Simple Template.
But if you feel like you want to use something else, go ahead. Now I'm going to try and do most of the course using the Simple Template; not too much different. And once you select your template, go ahead and start using SketchUp.
