Understanding one-on-one interviews

So now I'm going to talk quickly, very quickly, about formal interviews. Essentially, most of the movies in this course assume we're dealing with typical one-on-one formal interviews, so almost all the advice and techniques I give can be directly applied to your standard interview format. By formal I generally mean any interview format that's prearranged on a set topic that's in a standard question-and-answer format. As far as the interview production itself, that's also going to be formal. So that means shooting in a location we've chosen just for the interview, putting the camera on a tripod, miking up a subject in the chair, and usually setting up formal three- or four-point lighting. In most of the other movies in this course I discuss all the specifics of staging and shooting formal interviews, so the only advice I'd like to add to that in this movie is about how to maintain intimacy in formal one-on-one interview situations.
