Now when it comes to audio equipment, the audio packages from me are pretty standard, from project to project, regardless of what I'm shooting. But the number one thing that I'm going to make sure I have no matter what, is a good solid shotgun mic. My preference is the Sennheiser 416, but there are many other models out there, but a shotgun mic is an absolute must. In addition to that, I like to have hardwired lavs for sit down interviews, and also, wireless lavs for subjects on the move and pulling off wide shots. A good mixer, like the Sound Devices MixPre, or the Sound Devices 302 or the Shure FP33 is also essential for audio quality, and anytime they're doing complicated audio setups. So these allow you to use multiple microphones and to more easily split-channel between two cameras or plug into a mixing board, if you're doing event videography.
