The default gallery holds over 6,000 items, ranging from images to sounds to 3D objects to animations, pages, and themes. In order to effectively use the gallery, think of it as the warehouse at the end of Indiana Jones. It's endless. You've got to find the right item and then leave it somewhere specific so you can find it again. When you search your gallery and find something that you are going to use more than once in your life, you need to move that object to your own personal filing cabinet called My Content for rapid retrieval.
In the gallery look for content specific items to support your instruction. There are different types of papers random word choosers, random group choosers maps, et cetera. Have fun exploring the gallery. I'm now going to show you how to find something useful, move it to the My Content folder and give it a searchable name for later finding. One of my favorite tools in the smart gallery is the timer. To find the timers, there's actually two of them, we're going to go to the gallery tab.
We're going to go to the search box right there and I need to launch my Keyboard from the pen tray. We're going to go ahead and type in the word timer, t-i-m-e-r. And I'm going to go ahead and hit Enter. And that, that does the search for me. Down below, I'm going to go ahead and close this so you see what it looks like. We get the results broken down into categories. And the timers that I'm interested in sharing with you today, are located in the interactive and multimedia folder. Now I could grab this timer and I could just swipe it onto the screen, in fact, I think I'm going to.
I'm going to swipe it over there so you can see what it looks like. It's an interactive timer, it's really cool. You'll love using it. But today what we want to do, is we want to take this timer and we want to put it into our My Content folder. I'm scrolling up so that you can see the My Content folder right there. And I'm going to go ahead and run that search again. And, I'm going to go ahead and select the timer that I want. Now I could drag and drop it, but I'm not going to because I think it's easier to drop down menu. And you can see that one of the choices is add to My Content. So we're going to go ahead and add that to My Content.
We're going to run that search a second time and we're going to select the other timer and we're going to go ahead and add to My Content and then I want to show you were the two timers are now located. In My Content I'm want to go to interactive and multi media now I added a lot of things to my content so your going to see all kinds of things. Yours would be less populated, but you will see that I have got the two timers that I just added. Now I want to make a folder with in My Content and with in that folder I'll store those two timers and that will make it even faster for me to find the timers.
So, I am going to select My Content with it selected you can see that it's got blue behind the name. And I'm going to dropdown menu, and I'm going to add, New Folder. For this folder, I think a, appropriate name would be Timer, so I'm going to launch my keyboard, and I'm going to type in the word Timers. There it is, Timers. I'm going to go ahead and hit enter. And I can even close my ke, my keyboard for the moment. And there I've got Timers, there's my Timers folder. But as you can see, there's nothing in the Timers folder yet. I need to find those timers. And this time I'm going to drag and drop them into that folder.
So I'm going to My Content, I'm going to expand that folder, and I'm going to scroll, I'm going to scroll into the folder that is interactive in multimedia, and I'm going to find my two timers. Here's one timer, and I drag it up and drop it into timers, and I'm going to do the exact same process one more time clicking on My Content, expanding it, finding my timer, dragging and dropping it into the Timers folder. Now within that folder you will see that I've got two objects in the Interactive Multimedia, and those are the two timers.
Now if these two timers were not named, if I'd created an icon and then I dragged it over to My Content a step that you might want to take is to name the icon. So this one's already named Timer Two, so I'm going to go ahead and name this timer, Timer One. I am selecting it. I'm going to launch my keyboard right there. I'm going to double-click on that name. Place my cursor where I want it to be. And I'm just going to add a one. So I've got timer one and timer two. I can hit enter to, to complete that process and I am good to go.
Now that you've got some good tools in your My Content, and you know how to create folders to organize your content, you can create and store items as you teach. And storing items is not limited to pulling them from your main gallery and placing them in your My Content folders. You can also capture or copy images from the internet as well as create unique objects and pages to be stored for future use. I save an amazing amount of time by creating pages and icons for future use. It also provides consistency for your students, and provides routine into your instruction.
