Your smart board works in conjunction with your computer and a projector to form a loop. Your computer connects to your projector using a VGA/RGB cable, right there. Then the projected image shines on the smart board. Finally, the smart board is connected to your computer via a USB cable. Thus, completing the loop. When using the smart board, your finger is the input device, replacing the mouse or the keyboard, allowing you to control your computer from in front of your classroom.

So how does it work? Well there's a void or a gap between the top layer of the white board and the back layer. And when your finger touches the white board and when it presses on the white board, the board senses exactly where you are touching. That's why it's important to touch with intent. When connecting to your smart, interactive white board in the indicator lights, you should see a progression of solid red to blinking red, to green.

A blinking green, indicates that the smart board is connected to your computer, but that it is not connecting to the smart drivers. This may indicate that you need to go to the smart website and download the drivers for your board. If you see an amber light, this means the smart board controller may be downloading a firmware update. And you should contact a technician if this amber light does not change to a solid green light, A solid red light indicates that it's getting power.

But it's not connecting to the computer, I'd suggest making sure that your USB cable is plugged into your computer. So we've got our solid green light there, let's explore what we can do with our smart board.
