If you've already used an item in a transaction, you can't delete it. In reality, you don't want to. If you've sold an item in the past, you might sell it again in the future. For instance, when you sell ski gear in the winter and cycling clothes and bathing suits in the summer. You can hide items in the Item list if you aren't using them. Then when you do start using them again, you can reactivate them. In the Item List window, to inactivate an item, select the item in the list, Right-click the item and choose Make Item Inactive on the shortcut menu.
The item promptly disappears from list. In order to reactivate an item, you have to be able to see it. To do that, turn on the Include inactive checkbox. Inactive items have a gray X to the left of their names. Click the gray X to reactivate the item. If you do want to delete an item record and it hasn't been used in any way, you can right-click the item and choose Delete Item on the shortcut menu.
If the item has been used in a transaction, you'll see an error message that you can't delete it and it'll give you a choice to click Make Inactive to hide it or Cancel to leave it in the list. If it hasn't been used, you'll also have to click OK to confirm that you want to delete the item. If you inactivate items, in the future before you create a new one, turn on the Include inactive checkbox to see if you already have an item for the same purpose.
