Often, you'll want to download transitions through your bank for a specific account that you're working with in Quicken. Remember, when you update a spending account in Quicken, Quicken connects to your bank online and downloads your most recent transactions and account balances. If you've entered any transactions manually, Quicken matches these transactions for you, so as not to duplicate any transactions. Once you have opened an account register, you can download transactions for that account directly from the account register. To download transactions and balances for the account, make sure your computer is connected to the internet.
Also you had download the most recent transactions and account balance information for a credit card account, but the process is the same for any spending or savings account. Go to the actions menu in the upper right corner of your account register. Select the update now from the actions menu. Either enter the password for the account online, or if you've set up a password vault, enter your master vault password. Quicken will show a pop-up window, labeled online update for this account and the account you selected will be checked. Click Update Now to download transactions and balance information. You'll see a progress action on the screen, showing that Quicken and your bank are communicating.
Once the update's complete, you'll see a screen that will summarize the download, showing the number of transactions downloaded, and the accounts downloaded. Click the Close button in the bottom-right of the pop-up window to return to the account register. Any newly downloaded transactions, will be labeled with a blue circle and the word New in the left most column of the transaction. If you hover over the blue circle, you'll see the date of the download. Now you can add any detail including categorization, notes, attachments, or flags to your register. You may need to scroll all the way down using the scroll bar, To see the most recent transactions.
Sometimes it's handy to update your account directly from your account register, especially if you're balancing or reconciling the account.
