Pinterest is a social media tool that allows you to bookmark content around the web in a visually pleasing arrangement. In this course, author Justin Seeley illustrates the basics of setting up and managing a Pinterest account and explores ideas for finding inspiration. Fill out your profile, add friends, and start pinning. Discover how to share activity on Facebook and Twitter, add your own image and video pins, and plan for activities like a wedding or vacation. The course also covers pinning on the go with the iOS and Android apps.
Another term that you are going to hear all of the time when you're using Pinterest is board. So, exactly what is a board? Well, a board is nothing more than a set of pins. A board can be created on basically any topic, such as cool posters, recipes for dinner, or even a wish list. You can add as many pins to a board as you want. So on my profile here, you can see that I have already got two boards in place: lynda.com, videos which contains 10 pins, and Wedding Plans, which contains 7 pins.
If I happen to click on one of these board names, it takes me to that board and shows me all of the pins that are available to me in it. I can scroll up and down to see each individual pin. I can also click on the pin to jump into Lightbox mode to see the pin a little bit more clearly. Clicking outside of that takes me back to the pinboard. At any given time, you have the ability to edit and manage this board using the Edit Board button. You can also add new pins to this board at any given time as well. And you can add as many pins to this board as you would like.
If you'd like to go back to your profile, just click your name and if you want to see your boards, they are right down here at the bottom. So again, a board is nothing more than a collection of pins, and pins are individual things that you find interesting. So try to come up with board names that correspond to the pins in which you are going to be placing inside them. For instance, I've named this board lynda.com videos because all of the things inside of this are going to be lynda.com videos that I find interesting. I've named this one Wedding Plans because everything that I want to associate with my wedding planning is going to go in this board.
You can create a lot of different boards. People use this for planning vacations, mapping out wardrobes, planning weddings, planning parties; any number of things can be used to create a board. The key here is to think outside the box, come up with a list of things that you think you might want to aggregate, and then create a board and then start pinning away.
