Once you have the Pinterest mobile application downloaded to your device, you can access it by tapping the application icon like this. When the application launches, you have the option either sign up to the Pinterest service or to log in to your existing account. I already have an account, so I'm just going to tap on the Log in button. On the next screen, I'm going to be presented with three options for logging in via Facebook, Twitter, and by using my email address. In this case, I don't have my Facebook or Twitter accounts attached to my Pinterest account, so I'm just going to tap on Email Address. Now I just enter in the email address and password that I used to sign up for Pinterest and then tap on the Log in button.
Once I logged in, I'm taken to my Newsfeed, which displays the latest pins from the people that I follow. To navigate to the Newsfeed, I just swipe up and down like this. I can return to the top and then pull to refresh my Newsfeed, and any new items that have come in since I've been browsing the app will automatically be populated in my Newsfeed. At the bottom of the application, you'll see a row of buttons which allow you to navigate to different areas of the Pinterest site, like the Following tab. This is your Newsfeed, which displays all the latest content from you and the people that you follow. The Explore tab takes you to a list of tags or keywords that you can tap on to find interesting things that you might want to pin.
There are things like Animals, Architecture, Celebrities, even Design and Education. Tapping on one of these tags will tell Pinterest to search for all of the most recent pins that have this category assigned to them. So if I tap on Design, Pinterest will go out and fetch the latest pins or posts in this category. Tapping the Back button in the top left-hand corner takes me back and I can continue exploring. You also have the opportunity here at the top to search for things. You can type in a keyword and then choose whether or not you want to search pins, boards, or even people.
So if you're looking to find a specific board or looking to find a specific person on Pinterest, this is where you do that. Tap Cancel to escape, and then you can continue exploring the app down at the bottom. The middle icon will activate your camera. This is where you can add your own pins from within the Pinterest mobile application. We'll cover this in its own movie a little bit later though, so don't really worry about it right now. The News tab will show you all of the latest notifications that your account receives. This includes when someone starts following you or when they follow one of your boards or even re-pin one of your posts. Finally, there's the Profile tab.
This takes you to your personal Pinterest profile. At the top, you'll notice that you have your avatar, as well as your name displayed. It also shows how many people you're following and how many people follow you. You can view your boards down here and scroll through them like this. You can also see your secret boards down here at the bottom, if you have any. You can see your individual pins by tapping on Pins, and then you can also see the likes that you've received on any of the pins that you've posted. At the top right-hand corner, there's a button that allows you to find friends on Pinterest, either from Facebook or to invite friends from your contact list.
If you choose Invite friends, Pinterest may ask you to have access to your contacts. Just allow that and then Pinterest will then go into your contact list and allow you to invite people. This generally means that you're inviting them via their email address. Tap the Back button to go back. Up at the top left, you have this little gear icon. This allows you to go into your Account Settings, access Pinterest Help, read the Terms and Privacy agreement, and also log out from the application. You can tap Cancel to escape. So again, if you want to access your Newsfeed, just tap on the Following tab.
If you're interested in exploring Pinterest to find new and exciting ideas, go to the Explore tab. If you want to add your own pins while you're out and about, tap on the camera icon. If you want to see the latest notifications that your account has received, tap on News. And then finally, to manage your personal profile, go to the Profile tab. Hopefully, by now you have a better understanding of how to get the Pinterest mobile application up and running on your device, and also how to navigate around it as well.
