Pinterest is a social media tool that allows you to bookmark content around the web in a visually pleasing arrangement. In this course, author Justin Seeley illustrates the basics of setting up and managing a Pinterest account and explores ideas for finding inspiration. Fill out your profile, add friends, and start pinning. Discover how to share activity on Facebook and Twitter, add your own image and video pins, and plan for activities like a wedding or vacation. The course also covers pinning on the go with the iOS and Android apps.
Another term that you are going to hear all the time when you're dealing with any social network is the term "follow" and this is sort of a term that puts people off a little bit, because they don't really understand what it means. Basically all that following means is that you want to pay attention to whatever this person is posting on a given social network, and on Pinterest it acts much the same way. However, there are two levels of following on Pinterest. You can follow the overall user, which means, show me everything that this person posts, or you can follow individual boards of theirs.
So for instance, I am on my alternate profile here on Pinterest and if I wanted to follow all of the posts that are coming from this, I would click this button here that says Follow All. However, if I don't think that I'm interested in everything this person has to say or everything that they're sharing, I can simply follow the boards that mean something to me. So for instance, I am going to scroll down here, and there's a board called Photography. This is all the photos that this person happens to be posting and so if I wanted to follow just this board, I click the Follow button and I'm now following just that board, meaning that every time a new pin is added to this Photography board, it will show up in my news feed.
If I had followed all, everything would show up in my news feed, but I'm not necessarily interested in what this Justin finds as being awesome, or what he finds as being worthy of being in his Gadgets section. So I just wanted to subscribe to one board, which is what I did. So again, you can either follow one whole user or you can follow individual boards that a user creates; either way you're just adding more content to your news feed to make it easier for you to find things that interest you on Pinterest.
