Pinterest is a social media tool that allows you to bookmark content around the web in a visually pleasing arrangement. In this course, author Justin Seeley illustrates the basics of setting up and managing a Pinterest account and explores ideas for finding inspiration. Fill out your profile, add friends, and start pinning. Discover how to share activity on Facebook and Twitter, add your own image and video pins, and plan for activities like a wedding or vacation. The course also covers pinning on the go with the iOS and Android apps.
Once you have explored the site and gotten the basics of Pinterest nailed down, it's time to start creating things yourself, and the first step in creating something on Pinterest is to create a pinboard. This is where you're going to take all of the little ideas and photos that you find interesting and pin them. So we need to create a board that has some sort of a theme. In order to create your first board, just come up here to top-right and click Add. Once you do that, you'll have the ability to choose Add a Pin, Upload a Pin, or Create a Board. We'll cover adding and uploading pins a little bit later; for now, we just want to create our first board.
So let's choose Create a Board. For my Board Name, I am going to call it My Vacation, because let's assume that I'm planning a vacation. My Board Category, you can see there are ton of categories available. Since I'm probably going to be traveling, I'll choose Travel for my Board Category. And then underneath that, there's another section called Who can pin? Basically, this is a place where you can add other people to collaborate with you on this pinboard. So for instance, if I was taking a family vacation with my wife and a few other people in my family, as long as they are on Pinterest, I can add them as another pinner, and that way we can all collaborate on what we want to do on this vacation.
So if we were going to Europe let's say, we could all pin things that we find interesting about Europe that we might want to do. That way we have a big aggregated collection of all the things that everybody wants to do while we are on vacation, making it easier for us to plan where we are going to go. This is also a great way to collaborate on projects that you might be working on with coworkers. So if you think outside the box, this could really be a nice collaborative tool no matter what you are doing. In this case though, I am not going to add any other pinners; I am just going to simply create my board.
Once I create my board, it takes me to the board. Now you are not going to see anything here because I haven't pinned anything to the board yet, and you are not going to see any description because they don't allow you to do that in the board-creation phase. However, in the next movie I'll walk you through how to edit your board details so that you can make it a little bit more specific for each individual board that you create.
