As a creative professional, I'm constantly looking for inspiration and motivation to make me a better and more creative person. Pinterest is a great system for gathering all sorts of inspirational things. Whether it'd be photographs, quotes, whatever it might be, you can put that all into Pinterest and then use your inspirational board to inspire you on a daily basis. Let's take a look at my inspirational sample board that I've created here. You can see here at the top the description says that these are all things that I hope will jumpstart my creativity and push me to be a better person.
So all of these things aren't necessarily related and they may not even have anything to do with being "creative," but I include life lessons, creative things, inspirational quotes, motivational quotes, all of that stuff into one lump category called Inspirational. So let's take a look at some of these now. For instance, the photo of the two dogs at the bottom, not only is it a cute photo, but as you can see by the description, it reminds me to believe that the underdog can come out on top. Pretty nice! Clicking away from that takes me out of pin. This was an interesting picture of a dandelion, and with the dandelion having this different perspective, it reminds me to look at things from a different angle.
So the inspirational board is more of an abstract way of thinking about things. It's not as mechanical as putting together a home remodel or a new wardrobe, but in this case, anything that I find to be neat or inspirational, motivational, or that might inspire my creativity, I'm all for it. So for instance, this photo here: the description says freedom and spirit are one, but I also like the tones and the colors in this and so I might use those tones and colors in a design, or I might even use the same effect on a photo that I might be retouching later on. So it's just, again, a reminder of all different things I like. Not only do I like the spirit of the photo itself, I also like the effect, the coloration, and everything about it.
This photo of the Redwoods, not only does it remind me that I'm a very small fish in a very big pond, but it also inspires me to continue to grow, as a human and as an artist. And so little things like this are great to keep with you at all times, and as you start to put all the stuff into Pinterest, you will be glad you did, because on those days when you hit those creative roadblocks or whatever it might be that gives you a challenge in your everyday life, you can come back to something like this and find something that will really help you bust through those hard moments. I use Pinterest not only as a technical aggregation tool, but also as an inspirational aggregation tool and I suggest you do the same.
