Enhancing Digital Photography with Photoshop CS with Chris Orwig will greatly increase the digital imaging skills and creativity of professional photographers, imaging professionals and enthusiasts. After first discussing color management skills, the tutorial advances to cover the features of Photoshop that are most essential to photographers such as the camera raw plug-in, the file browser, dust and scratches, the lens blur, shadows and highlights, advanced saturation, retouching, burning and dodging, curves for color and tone, black and white conversion, cross processing, creating panoramas, advanced sharpening, and much more. Exercise files (JPGs, PSDs and raw files) accompany the training, allowing you to follow along and learn at your own pace.
In this chapter, we will briefly look at how we can use another one of the automate features, Picture Package. Select one of the images from the picture package folder and go to automate picture package. Let's get familiar with this dialog window. For starters, we have source images and we're using the image that we selected from the file browser, the document, if we're printing an eight and a half by eleven sheet of paper, we'd want to choose 8 by 10, which we have there, and then we have a number of different layout modes. The layout mode I'm choosing is one 5 by 7 and two 3 by 5's.
Next, we have resolution; these files have been resized down so that they can be included with the training, so they're real low res files, so, we'll leave the resolution at 72. Normally, you'd want to take that to an appropriate resolution like 300 pixels per inch. We want the mode of RGB color, flatten those layers, we'll be fine. Moving down, label, and here's where we can add some label information about these images. Okay, one of the great features about Picture Package is once we set our layout, we can go in and single click an image and choose an image to replace it. In this case, I'll choose image two and then click on the third image and choose image three.
Once we have done that, we'll press okay. Photoshop will go through a number of steps to create this picture package. Once this has been completed, it's ready to be sent to the printer.
