There are two different ways to add a warp to a Type layer. You can either use the Warp icon in the Options panel when you have the Type tool selected, or you can use Free Transform. So let's add some text to this image, I'll tap the T key in order to select my Type tool, click in the image area, and then I'll type in the word water. In order to make this larger I'm going to hold down the Command key, which will give me my transformation handles, and then after I start dragging I can hold down the Shift key in order to constrain the proportions of the text. In order to commit to this text I'll tap Command > Return on MAC, or Control > Enter on Windows.
In order to add a warp using the Type tool I can click on the Warp option in the Options bar. I have a number of presets that I can select from. For example, I could select Arc and then just bring the bend down and change maybe the horizontal, or the vertical distortion. If I select a different preset, I get the different options for that preset instead. I'm going to cancel out of here though because I want to show you how to add a warp under the transformation options. I'll choose Edit, and then Transform, and then Warp. Here I have that same set of presets that I can choose from. And, I can change the bend either by clicking on the word bend, and then using the scrubby sliders moving to the left or to the right, or I can type in the numeric value say five or so.
And then I can change the horizontal and vertical distortions as well. But I can also just click and drag on screen, in order to change some of the attributes. And depending on which preset you select, you'll be able to change different things. So I think it's a little bit easier to apply your work using Free Transform because you do have this on screen control. To apply the warp, we'll click on the check mark, and then I'll use the Move tool in order to just move this text down a little bit.
We'll add a layer mask by clicking on the Mask icon on the Layers panel. And I'll tap the B key to get my paintbrush. I'll make sure that I'm painting with black, and my opacity is set to 100%, and we'll just paint down along the bottom of the text to make it appear as if it's actually in the waterfall. And that's how easy it is to add a warp to a Type layer in Photoshop.
