In the next couple of movies we're going to take a look at a few more techniques that we can use for wrinkle reduction and here we have this wonderful snapshot of my sister Amanda and my daughter Annika. And I just love this because they are such good friends. She's just a great aunty to my daughter Annika. Let's go ahead and zoom in on this photo. One of the things I notice here is that my sister is absolutely beautiful as is my daughter. Yet because the light source is coming from above, it's catching some lights here underneath the eyes. So what I want to do is reduce these wrinkles to make this image a little bit more flattering. So let's go ahead and copy the background layer. We can do that by pressing a shortcut, Command+J on Mac, that's Ctrl+J on a PC, or you can click+drag this layer to the New Layer icon and then we'll go ahead and name this wrinkle 1.
Well, what tool are we going to use here? Well, let's go and ahead press the O key. That will give us access to these tools here Dodge, or Burn or Sponge tool. We are going to choose the Dodge tool. What we first want to do is work on our shadows that are real low percentage. We're going to go ahead and take this down to about 10 points. Then we're going to zoom in on the face and now that we are zoomed in on the face and these wrinkles, we will start on this side because this one is a little bit bigger wrinkle. I go in even further. We can see that here is the darkest area the wrinkle on and I'm just going to go ahead and make my way across this and the nice thing about using the low percentage here is that we can slowly build this up.
Protect Tones is on of course. We also work on another portion of the eye over here where we see some dark shadows. Brush a little bit bigger this juncture. All right, well now that we worked out some of the darkest shadows, let's go ahead and move our way over to the other side of the face and again I'm just going to make my way across these deep little wrinkles there. I'm going to work on some of the wrinkles that are near these wrinkles underneath the eye the one above the eyes. Well, bigger Brush for this portion of this image right and I'll go ahead and press 2 for 20%. I'm going to go ahead and navigate back and work a little bit more on this. So I'm slowly progressing my way into this wrinkle reduction and wrinkle removal back and forth, and back and forth. Little bit more, little bit more here, a little bit more there. Here we go back and forth slowly, slowly removing this and I say slowly because it typically pays off to take your time when you are doing detail work. Eventually you are going to get really fast at this and you'll start to just crank through this technique.
But right now we're just going to go ahead and take your time here and make sure we are doing some decent detail work. All right let's zoom out and see how are we doing so far. Here is our before and after already a much better photograph right. Let's zoom back in, take this to our range of Midtones and this juncture, make our brush a little bit bigger and just start to deal with these Midtones a little bit. And I'm using a Wacom Tablet right now, which is nice so I have a advantage of having a little bit of pressure sensitivity here, which is helpful because it means I can fill this up as I go. So let's make a real big brush. Go down on your Exposure 10% and we'll go ahead and just brighten these areas up here. All right, well let's zoom out a little bit and see how we are doing. Here's our before and after. All right, one of the things that you may notice is happening is we have a little bit of discoloration and I'm going to exaggerate this discoloration to bring my Midtone Exposure up significantly and I'm going to work on the top portion of the eyes here.
Now as I do that you can see that there is a little bit of color there. Now that color doesn't look good. How do you fix it? You take this to blend mode of Luminosity, interesting. Now all that's happening is it's just using the luminance values of this area. Now that is a little bit too strong, so I'll grab my Eraser tool and I'll erase some of that. But I just want to do that in order to illustrate how you can remove the little bit of the color shift that you are seeing there. All right, there is our before and after. We are just using this nice Dodge tool in order to reduce those wrinkles, and in this case we have pretty nice wrinkle reduction and of course we can dial in our Opacity here just to find the sweet spot.
All right, for stage one we are in a pretty good place. So let's take a look at our before and after. Here is before and after. That's real subtle. I'm talking subtle, subtle yet significant. Let's say we want to step this up a little bit. What are we going to do next? Well, we'll do that in the next movie.
