One of the nice new things about the Adjustment panel in Photoshop CS4 is they've given you a really easy way to toggle kind of the before and after as you are making an adjustment. So let's create a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer here. Just click on that icon in the Adjustments panel and now my interface is changed, so I can adjust the Hue/Saturation. So maybe I'll just change the Saturation slider down a little bit, to the left and I'm seeing a change now in my image directly. You know before what you would do is you would turn the adjustment layer on and off, right? You would have to take your mouse out of where you were over here to the slider and change your context a little bit by turning this layer on and off.
Now a different way to do it instead is to hold down the Backslash key. You will find that on your keyboard. And if you press and hold it, there is a slight delay, but once it's there you can see the before. It's like turning that adjustment layer off temporarily. When you let go of the key go, it goes back to the after. So it's a nice before and after. Again, you are just holding the Backslash key, pausing for a brief second until it kicks in, there is your before and then when you let go, you can see your current affect of that adjustment. So a nice way to see the before and after, while you are making adjustments with the Adjustments panel.
