Some of you are just not going to like this tabbed document stuff. I personally think it's great but there are times it does get in the way or for some of you, you think it's in the way all the time. So here is what I'm talking about. You have got these four images, we are going to open them and by default Photoshop is going to open these all in one window each in its own tab. Now, if you don't like that, let's go ahead and close these Command+Option or Ctrl+Alt+W to close them all. Let's go to our Preferences, Command+K, Ctrl+K and under Interface you have two check boxes that you need to turn off if you want to just eliminate the whole tabbed document feature all together.
Most of you only know about the Open Documents as Tabs. So we'll go ahead and turn that off. We'll come back to Preferences in just a minute. So turning that feature off now, if I go back to Bridge and we go ahead and reopen these files, they are all going to open as cascading separate windows again. But some of you have noticed that the tabbed document feature isn't quite all the way turned off just yet. So if I'm moving this window around, some of you accidentally tab it with another document window, or worse you accidentally re-tab it into the application itself. You're like, how did that happen, I thought I turned the tabbed document stuff off. Not quite.
If you go to the Preferences again, Command+K, Ctrl+K, there is one more check box under the Interface options, Enable Floating document window Docking. It's kind of a mouthful there. If you turn off this check box, it's going to prevent you from accidentally tabbing documents all together either with each other, or to the application frame. So that's off, let's go ahead and click OK. Let's just make sure, nothing up our sleeves, let's float all our windows again and now when I try to drag these into other document windows, you will see I don't get the blue highlight. I don't get it on the application frame anymore. So if you really want the tabbed document feature turned off, in your Preferences, Command+K, Ctrl+K under Interface, make sure both of these check boxes are turned off to stop the tab madness.
