Setting up the camera for jewelry photos

I'm going to be describing several different lighting techniques to use for photographing jewelry. Most of the techniques will involve triggering remote flash or a speed light that is connected to the camera. Because of that I'm going to be using a DSLR for these demos. When we get into the demonstrations of continuous lighting techniques those will work Fine with a point and shoot type camera. A snapshot camera, you won't have to have this sophisticated equipment. But, for the purposes of these demonstrations, I wanted you to use a DSLR. I'm not a brand snob, there's several good companies out there. This happens to be a Nikon D800, it's got a full frame sensor. And I've matched it with a Nikon AFS Nikor 2870 F 2.8 zoom. That's a lot of data right there, but what it essentially means is that I've got a zoom lens that has a very large maximum aperture. So it's got a great deal of light gathering power.
