Now, if you take the time to customize your workspace here by arranging your panels just so, you may also want to take that extra step of saving that configuration as a workspace, giving it a name that make sense to you. If you want to take even one step further, giving that workspace a custom keyboard shortcut, so with just one swipe of your keyboard here you can get things back to the way you want them to be. In case you've accidentally messed them up or if multiple people using the machine, someone else messed up your machine. So here I'm in the Essential workspace. Of course I'm going to customize this to my own liking. So, I'm going to pull out this group of panels. I don't want Color over there.
I want Layers to be at the top, so I'm going to arrange that group and drag it up to the top. I'm going to collapse Adjustments down just to its name and I might arrange this one here, close it. Then I want to bring up History but I don't want it to be in the separate dock, so I'm going to drag that whole group just below Adjustments. So, I dock it down at the bottom of my screen here and then I'll collapse that down, so it's ready for me to access if I want to. But I'm not going to leave it open at all times. Then finally I'll bring one more set. I'll bring up the Info and Histogram set. I don't need the Navigator, I'm going to go ahead and close that.
Histogram looks great. Under Info, I don't want this additional information. So, Workspaces actually save the specific panel options that you've customized as well. So, I'm going to turn off Document Sizes, turn off Show tool Hints, click OK. Then I want this whole group to be just above Layers. Okay, I realize I went fast, I have collapsed that down but just to give you an idea what it means to customize a Workspace. I want to give this workspace a custom name. So, to do that I can go to my Workspace Switcher and down to the bottom in out bar and choose Save Workspace, we'll give this a name, we'll call it Power Shortcuts.
Part of saving a workspace is you can also include the keyboard shortcuts and any menu customization you've done. I haven't done that in this video, but you can also capture that as part of a saved Workspace. We'll go ahead and click Save. Now, if I want to get back to the default, I can choose Essentials. That takes me back to how Photoshop first launches, if I want to go back to my custom Workspace, I can go back to Power Shortcuts. If I want I can actually assign keyboard shortcuts to switch back and forth between those and to reset them. So, let's go to our keyboard shortcut editor under the Edit menu > Keyboard Shortcuts. We just need to scroll down to where our workspaces are saved. They are under the Window menu. Twirl that down. Down towards the bottom is these workspaces. You can see the ones that I have added actually are listed in this menu as well.
So, we're going to assign a keyboard shortcut for Power Shortcuts. We'll do Command+F12. You can do whatever shortcut you want. So on the PC you would do Ctrl+F12 if you want it. It warns me that these can be assigned to actions. That's okay. I'll ignore that for now. I'm going to assign Command+F11 to the Essentials workspace and we'll go ahead and click OK. So, now just for demo purposes, Command+F11 resets me to Essentials. Command+F12 takes me back to my custom Power Shortcuts workspace. So, I encourage you to go ahead and capture all that work you've done to customize the workspace to make your own, give it a name and if you want to, take that extra step and assign a keyboard shortcut to it.
