Before we start working on perspective drawing, we need to reduce the number or layers in our concept sketch. If you have the exercise files available to you, go into that folder, then into the 1_Concept folder and Select and open ConceptFinal.psd. If you did your own concept painting, please do your perspective drawing over that. Otherwise, you can work over my prepared concept painting, which I'll save in a minute. Even those of you who are not premium members will have access to this starting file for the perspective section.
This finished concept painting has a lot more layers than are needed for the perspective drawing. So you need to merge the unnecessary layers together. The only part of the painting that should be kept seperate is the castle itself. Since you may want to move around parts of the castle as you do your perspective drawing. Select all of the background layers and either press Cmd or Ctrl+E or select Merge Layers from the Dropdown menu at the top of the Layers menu. Rename that merged layer, Background.
There's a layer of smoke in front of the bridge. You might want to turn that off so you can see the castle more clearly. There are some bright highlights on the lava that you might want to tone down so you can concentrate completely on the castle for this section. So select a deep red color and with the big soft brush with the transfer mode on the brush set to darken. Darken the lava down on the background layer. We'll restore those lava highlights in the composite, but I think the project is a little less distracting with them knocked down.
Keep your original concept sketch with all of the layers for later reference, and save this reduced one under another name. We'll save it inside of the 2_perspective folder for you to work over in the perspective section if you haven't created your own castle concept. The file name is perspectivestart.psd. Next up we'll add vanishing points to the project and start the prospective drawing.
