The Curves adjustment in Adobe Photoshop has a reputation for being challenging for some photographers. In this workshop, Photoshop expert Tim Grey takes you step by step through every aspect of the Curves adjustment, helping you truly understand the concepts behind it so that you can quickly and easily maximize tonal range, optimize contrast, and enhance your photos' color balance. Note: This course was recorded in Photoshop CS5, but was created with users of both Photoshop CS5 and Photoshop CS4 in mind.
Hi, I'm Tim Grey. Photographer, author, and educator. After authoring over a dozen books, writing hundreds of magazine articles, and teaching numerous workshops around the world. I'd like to think I have a pretty good sense of what topics are of greatest interest to photographers. Curves is certainly one of those subjects. The Curves Adjustment in Photoshop has a reputation for being daunting, challenging, and for some photographers, even scary. Photographers who are adept at optimizing their images with curves are held in high esteem. And yet, curves is not anywhere near as challenging as its reputation would suggest.
In these lessons, I'll take you step by step through curves. Helping you truly understand the concepts behind curves, and how it can be used in a very comfortable and yet powerful way. You'll learn how to maximize tonal range, optimize contrast, and achieve perfect color balance. I'll then delve a little deeper, guiding you through some of the more advanced and creative ways of working with curves. To help reinforce all you've learned, we'll work on a few projects that involve multiple adjustments, providing more context for your use of curves. The images I use in each lesson come with this course, so you can use those same images while you follow along and practice the techniques you'll learn. The images are organized into folders by chapter name, and the file names reflect the content of the photo.
Matching the same file names you'll see in the lessons. After watching these lessons, I think you'll come to agree that there's no need to be afraid of curves. And that, in fact, is an incredibly powerful and useful tool for any photographer's digital workflow. I've had great fun creating these video tutorials, and hope you find them to be both educational and inspirational. (MUSIC).
