A little while ago I had someone actually ask me, "how do you paint a dotted line inside Photoshop?" I have to admit it. It kind of took me a while to remember how do I actually accomplish it. So, here's the benefit of showing it to you in a video. So I'm going to press B for the Brush tool and to do it, you are going to want to bring up your Brushes panel and in the Brush Tip Shape category, just click on that if that's not the current category chosen. Here is a little thing here down at the bottom called Spacing and the default spacing for most brushes is set so that as you brush, you actually get an overlap of the actual brush.
So you get the illusion of an actually filled solid line. If you want, you can actually increase the spacing until you actually see the distinct individual brush circles, okay? So if I go out here, it's giving me a little preview what that looks like based on my current brush size. So I want to make the brush size a little bit bigger and I'm going to make it a little bit harder, so the dots are little bit more defined. I don't want to go all the way too hard but just have a little bit of softness on it and just increase the spacing again, until I decide how much gap I want between each dot, and it looks good right about now, okay. So I'm going to come over here and line up the center of my cursor with the edge of my document there. I'm going to hold, press the button down, hold down the Shift key and start dragging down and now you can see I got a perfectly straight line of dots.
So just adjust the spacing to your taste and you can get a dotted line anywhere you want it.
