Here's a few shortcuts for the Crop tool that I'll share with you here. So, let's press C for the Crop tool. Let's go ahead and drag out a boundary. First thing is as you are dragging the boundary if you have started in the wrong position, you can hold down the Spacebar to reposition it and then let go of the Spacebar and keep dragging your bounding box here. Once you let go, you can of course always resize this by going to a handle. I'm just pressing and dragging. The area that's going to be cut is shaded and behind and the area that's going to be kept of course it's this clear area. You can toggle the shield if it's distracting. If you hit the Forward Slash key or the Question mark key you can toggle the shade on and off. So that's totally your preference. What I like to do is setup the color to white. You can actually choose a different shield color.
You can also change the Opacity if you want this to be lighter or darker. Let me change it to 50%. I'm going to hit Return once to lock in that 50% number. Now, I toggle it with Forward Slash key to kind of see it whether I like it. To apply a crop you just hit the Return key or the Enter key or you can also double-click in the particular crop area. If you want to cancel this, you just hit the Escape key. Okay, so drag around a new crop boundary, hit Return, it does it or the Enter key, undo of course. The drag out the crop boundary, hit Escape, and it will cancel it.
