So in this document I have a Layer Style applied to the Winter layer. I just don't have it visible right now. So I'm going to expand the fx icon, by clicking the little arrow there and I can click where the word Effects is to turn on that effect. Okay, now that we can see that effect, I can drag this effect to a different layer if it's on the wrong layer. To do that you just click on the fx icon, and just drag it to the layer that you want to take it to, and just look for that black line before you let go. I have just moved it from layer to layer. I can move it back to the Winter layer here. If I want to copy that Layer Style from one layer to another, just hold down your friend, the Option key or Alt on Windows, and Option+drag or Alt+drag the fx icon. And then you can just drag and drop that from layer to layer, and they will all now have that same effect. So that's kind of handy.
If you want you can actually just apply or copy just parts of a style. So if I take look at this fx icon again, you will see that it's made up of a Drop Shadow and a Stroke, and you can have up to like eight or nine different things that make up an effect. There's Outer Glows, there's Bevels, there's Texture Overlays, and what not. So this is just a relatively simple Layer Style here. But if I want to apply a Drop Shadow to the text here, I can just Option+drag the Drop Shadow from the Winter layer to the four seasons text layer as well. And you can see that that's been applied there. That shadow might be a little bit off for that size text, so let's go ahead and zoom in on that text and you can see it's way too big there.
So I'll just double-click on the actual effect to open up the Layer Style dialog box and then we can use the Size slider just to bring this down. So it's more appropriately scaled for the actual type, and then we can close up the Distance a little bit as well. And there you go. So it's very easy to share styles between layers. Just Option+drag them or Alt+drag them. If you just want to move them, just drag the fx. And it makes it very simple to create these nice effects very easily.
